
Class 1A Football Preview-Week Two
Week 1 is in the books, and it was a wild week of games. Plenty of changes to the MileHigh Prep Report Media/Coaches rankings as two teams made big leaps in the rankings. We also see North Fork & Flatirons Academy join the rankings this week. I am excited to get week #2 rolling. Rankings used are from the MileHigh Prep Report Media/Coaches Poll.

#1 Limon (1-0) at #10 Flatirons Academy (1-0), Friday at 6:30pm
Last Week…Limon jumped out to an early 21-0 lead over C.S Christian in route to their 41 to 14 win. Limon had everything rolling racking up over 400 yards of total offense. QB Aiden Kollath led the air attack passing for 100 yards and 1 TD. WR Brody Scherrer caught 5 passes for 42 as the top target. RB Camdyn Tacha (113 yards & 1 TD) and RB Jacob Jaklich (76 yards & 1 TD) led the rushing attack for the Badgers. Defensively Drey Tacha led the way for the Badgers with 6 Tackles while Liam Yoder pitched in with another 5 tackles plus an INT. Zac Carr had great pressure on the QB with two sacks and 2.5 TFL.
Flatirons Academy had the biggest upset in Class 1A in week 1, upsetting then ranked #5 Highland. Flatirons Academy played with good effort on defense holding Highland to 13 points and Flatirons Academy was perfect on PATs securing the 14 to 13 win. Flatirons Academy struggled at times on offense with just 145 yards of total offense. QB Caleb Doughty thew for 54 yards and 2 TDs while rushing for 34 yards. WR Everson Nelson was the recipient of one of the passing TDs and got 35 yards receiving. RB Elijah Ricca led the rushing attack with 40 yards on the ground. Defensively the Bison were led by Luis Mandl who had 11 tackles plus 5.0 TFL and Elijah Ricca with another 8 tackles.
Last Year…Limon secured the 35 to 14 win over Flatirons Academy.

#2 Buena Vista (1-0) at Platte Valley (0-2), Friday at 6pm
Last Week…. Buena Vista dominated in their season opener scoring 15 points in the first quarter and getting the sportsmanship rule going with another 26 in the second quarter, securing the 50 to 7 win. Buena Vista offensively was able to get things rolling racking up over 300 yards of total offense. QB Hudson Wingo had an efficient day throwing for 114 yards and 2 TDs. WR Caleb Pierce had a big day catching 3 passes for 85 yards and 1 TD. The rushing attack also had a good day with RB Casen Pridemore opening his Demon career with 84 yards rushing on 5 carries and 1 TD. RB Dexter Whitemore also had a solid day rushing for 69 yards and 2 TDs. Defensively Buena Vista forced 4 turnovers in the game. Two interceptions 1 each for Joe Bearss & Knox Reid and a pair of Fumble recoveries by Knox Reid & Elio Ynfantes-Perez. Abel Flowers (11 Tackles) & Carter Stromer (9 tackles) led the Demon defense in tackles.
Platte Valley fell to 0-2 on the season falling to 2A #3 Strasburg 34 to 7. Platte Valley so far has played two ranked teams and will face their third ranked team this week with a fourth on the horizon. Platte Valley was able to slow down the Strasburg offense holding them to 312 yards of offense, but Platte Valley gave up two fumbles in the game. Platte Valley will look to buck the two-game slide and face another top 10 opponent. (No stats for Platte Valley)
Last Year… Buena Vista won in a shootout 39 to 35 over Platte Valley.

#3 Wray (1-0) at Goodland KS (0-0), Friday at 6pm
Last Week … Wray got things going early in their game against Platte Canyon. Wray scored 28 points in the first quarter and got the clock rolling with another 13 in the second quarter. QB Austin Collins had a very efficient day going 3 for 3 with 85 yards and a pair of TDs and rushing for another 46 yards and 2 TDs. QB Grady Godsey also was able to get some offense going throwing for another 95 yards and 2 TDs. WR Aaron Tena also had a big day with 1 rush for 22 yards, 3 catches for 80 yards and 4 total TDs. Defensively Wray was led by Jaiden Depue (8 tackles & 4 TFL) and Brodie Riggleman (7 tackles).
Goodland KS will be kicking off their season this week. Last year Goodland KS went 4-5 and made the playoffs in Class 3A in Kansas.
Last Year… Wray scored 14 points in all four-quarter securing the 56 to 21 win over Goodland KS.
Series history… Goodland KS leads the series 5-4 over Wray, since 2004
#4 Centauri (2-0) over 2A Pagosa Springs (1-1), 42 to 7
Centauri picked up the win on Thursday Night over Pagosa Springs. Centauri dominated in the first half scoring 20 points in the first quarter and taking a 35 to 0 lead into halftime.
#5 Forge Christian (1-0) vs 2A The Academy (0-0), Friday at 7pm
Last Week… Forge Christian opened the 2025 campaign with a 33 to 14 win over Wiggins. Forge Christian kicked off the Coach Dan Shaffer era with a big win and we will see if they can build upon that win. Forge Christian offensively had a huge day from QB Jack Widdifield who threw for 252 yards and 4 TDs in his first varsity start. WR Quentin Torres was his main target, and he had a big day catching 6 passes for 190 yards and 3 TDs. Torres also led all rushers with 70 yards on the ground and 1 TD. Forge Christian did not post any defensive stats.
The Academy opens their 2025 season this week against Forge Christian. The Academy went 6-4 a season ago with a trip to the playoffs and a 2nd place finish in league. The Academy will turn to some new playmakers on offense. QB Ryland Chatterton could possibly take over at QB with the RB position possibly filled by Valentino Duran. Defensively look for the Wildcats to lean on Heath Allen and Lucas Goebel to lead the defense.
Last Year…Forge Christian took control early jumping out to a 14 to 0 lead and walking away with the 45 to 0 win.

#6 Burlington (1-0) vs Lakin KS (0-0), Friday at 7pm
Last Week… Burlington is coming off a bye. The Cougars played during zero week securing the 30 to 28 win over Platte Valley. Burlington, in their zero-week win, threw just 1 pass but got things rolling on the ground rushing for over 300 yards in the game. RB Jason Saucedo had a monster game rushing for 239 yards on 26 carries and 2 TDs. RB Anthony Estrada also pitched in with 34 yards and 1 TD. Defensively Darian McDonough (7 tackles) and Anthony Estrada (7 tackles) led the Burlington defense in tackles.
Lakin KS kicks off their 2025 season this week. Lakin went 6-3 last season in Class 2A in Kansas. Lakin made the playoffs but lost in the first round.

#7 Meeker (0-1) at Wiggins (0-1), Friday at 6pm
Last Week… Meeker kicked off their 2025 season with a hard-fought road loss to Centauri 34 to 6. Meeker found success at times but struggled to get into the end zone. QB Cade Mills had a solid day throwing for 130 yards, 1 INT, and 1 rushing TD. WR/RB Said Rodriguez had a solid day offensively as well catching 2 passes for 59 yards while rushing for 94 yards. RB Tristin Rollins had the most carries for the Cowboys with 15 carries for 47 yards. Defensively Meeker had success early stopping the Falcons but a few big plays by Centauri broke things open. Meeker did force a pair of INTs 1 by Elai Powers & 1 by Tucker Chinn. Leading the way for Meeker in tackles was Joseph Halstead (8 tackles), Samuel Conrado (7 tackles), and Tristin Rollins (7 tackles).
Wiggins opened their 2025 season on the road falling to Forge Christian 33 to 14. Wiggins had success stopping the run, but Forge Christian hit a few big plays passing to open things up. Offensively, Wiggins found success rushing the ball rushing for 192 yards as a team. RB Arath Carrazco led all rushers with 49 yards and 1 TD and RB Owen Erker also pitched in with 43 yards on 13 carries. QB Isaac Flores had a solid debut for the Tigers throwing for 90 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. WR Michael Adamson was Flores main target catching 4 passes for 49 yards. Defensively Wiggins was led by Cyrus Barkdoll (14 tackles) and Michael Adamson (7 tackles).
Last Year…Wiggins secured the 27 to 12 victory over Meeker in a hard-fought win.

#8 Monte Vista (0-1) vs Rye (2-0), Friday at 6pm
Last Week… Monte Vista kicked off their 2025 campaign with a defensive battle against Alamosa. Monte Vista did not get into the end zone, falling to Alamosa 6 to 3. Monte Vista offensively at times found success rushing as a team for 130 yards. RB Judah Howe had a breakout game rushing for 78 yards on 14 carries. QB Manny Jiron had some success passing for 34 yards and rushing for another 15 yards. Defensively Monte Vista played well holding Alamosa to just 6 points. The Pirates were led by Mason Mondragon (11 tackles), Chayse Bouet (9 Tackles & 2 TFL), and Azariah Hurtado (9 tackles).
Rye has kicked off their 2025 with a pair of wins. In zero week, Rye defeated Manitou Springs 28 to 3 and last week Rye blasted Trinidad 41 to 6. Last week Rye had a huge offensive day racking up over 400 yards of total offense. QB Brady Baumgartner is off to a great start as a freshman and threw for 202 yards and 2 TDs against Trinidad. WR Wyatt Scheid was his main target catching 3 passes for 75 yards and a TD. RB Jackson Bjorum led the rushing attack with 149 yards and 2 TDs. Defensively Rye held Trinidad to under 130 yards of total offense. Nathaniel Gray (6 tackles) and Beau Hicks (6 tackles) led all tacklers for Rye.
Last Year…Monte Vista got the early jump on Rye scoring 30 first half points. Monte Vista would walk away with a 43 to 7 win.

#9 North Fork (1-0) vs Yuma (1-0), Friday at 6pm
Last Week… North Fork kicked off their 2025 season with a blow out win over Center 47 to 6. North Fork made quick work of the Vikings getting running clock by the 2nd quarter. Offensively North Fork ran the ball effectively rushing for 332 yards as a team and throwing just 5 times for 22 yards. QB Braeden Flores had 22 yards passing and 1 passing TD while rushing for 42 yards and 1 rushing TD. Leading all rushers was RB Alex Csere who had 2 carries for 84 yards and 1 TD. RB Joe Hollembeak also had a solid day with 4 carries for 68 yards and 1 TD. Defensively North Fork flew around forcing 7 sacks (3 by Bo Eves) and 2 INTs (1 by Bently Farmer & 1 by Alex Csere). Leading the Miners in tackles were Stellar Cook (7 tackles) and Bo Eves (6 tackles).
Yuma kicked off their season with an out-of-state opponent and snagging the 21 to 7 win over Chase County NE. Offensively the rushing attack led the way racking up 223 yards of total offense. QB Iann Duran lead the way offensively with 10 yards passing, and 1 passing TD while rushing for 85 yards and 1 rushing TD. RB Christian Thomson (63 yards & 1 TD) and RB Daden Beauprez (63 yards) also had solid days for the Yuma offense. Defensively Yuma forced 3 turnovers in the win, 1 INT by Reyli Trejo, and a pair of fumble recoveries. Leading the Outlaws in tackles were David Covarrubias (7 tackles) and Marvin Duarte (5 tackles).
Last Year…North Fork did not play Yuma last season; they last meet in 2008.
