
Class 3A Volleyball Weekly Review and Preview

This week we take a look at our top 16 ranked teams and see how the season is starting for them. We will see who the teams have played, who they beat, the teams that are challenging, and who on the team is making their mark on the stat board.

Resurrection Christian
The Cougars are currently sitting at 1-0 after beating Liberty Common 3-0. This game was also a league game, meaning Resurrection Christian also starts their league record off 1-0 and 1st place in the Patriot league. Next week, the team will travel to Platte Valley and face the Broncos on 9/9.
Stat leaders so far for the Cougars are Kaylynn Pardue (Sr) with 2 total blocks, 4 serving aces, and 12 kills, Paige Michaelson (Fr) with 1 total blocks and 7 kills, Sadie Whyard (Jr) with 1 total block, Kylee Mayes (So) with 3 serving aces and 30 assists, Jada Nordhagen (Jr) with 2 serving aces, 4 digs, 1 assist, and 4 receptions, Blake Coors (Sr) with 6 digs and 7 receptions, Amanda Pardue (Sr) with 3 digs and 6 receptions, and Tatum Highstreet (Jr) with 6 kills.
Eaton
The Reds are currently 5-1 on the season, 1-0 in league play and 1st in the Patriot League. Eaton lost their first game of the year against Windsor 0-3, but has won each game since, including Mountain View 3-0, Longmont 3-0, Alamosa 3-1, Lutheran 3-0 and Frontier Academy 3-0. Eaton will play Valley on 9/9 in their next league game and will be trying to add another win to their overall and league record.
Stat leaders so far for the Reds are Addison Corder (Sr) with 14 total blocks, Madi Smith (Sr) with 6 total blocks, 34 digs, 69 kills and 65 receptions, Anika Pearson (So) with 6 total blocks, Trinity Salberg (Sr) with 11 serving aces and 99 assists, Harley Forster (Sr) with 8 serving aces, Hayden Logan (Sr) with 7 serving aces, 49 digs, 13 assists, and 62 receptions, Chloe Crider (Sr) with 50 digs, 35 kills and 44 receptions, Skyelyn Lefever (Jr) with 42 assists, and Lila Dejager (Sr) with 23 kills.
Centauri
Centauri starts off their season with a perfect record of 2-0 with wins over Lamar 3-0 and Delta 3-0. The Falcons will be playing in tournament play on 9/6 and will face Pueblo West and Loveland. The team will be looking to keep their perfect record as they play these games this weekend.
Leading the stat board so far for the Falcons are Joselyn McCarroll (Sr) with 5 total blocks, Analynn Dwyer (Jr) with 5 total blocks and 11 kills, Kenadie Wilfong (Jr) with 2 total blocks, 3 serving aces, 24 digs, and 57 assists, Lauren Gallegos (So) with 3 serving aces and 12 receptions, Aubrey Ullery (So) with 3 serving aces, 21 digs, 10 assists, and 34 receptions, Mikasa Gilleland (Jr) with 22 digs, 15 kills, and 27 receptions, Kaylee Smith (So) with 2 assists, and Kynlei Curtis (Jr) with 23 kills.
Alamosa
Alamosa kicks off their 2025 season with a 6-1 start and an 1-0 league start after beating Pagosa last night 3-0. Other wins for the Moose include Manitou Springs 3-0, Regis Groff 3-0, Mead 3-0, Niwot 3-0 and Pueblo County 3-0. The single loss for the team was against Eaton 1-3. Alamosa will end the week of play in Delta on 9/6 and then the team will play another league game next week in Bayfield on 9/11.
Leaders on the Mean Moose stat board so far this season are Kyla Hawkins (Fr) with 10 total blocks and 41 kills, Ashlyn Rice (Fr) with 8 total blocks, 16 serving aces, and 169 assists, Aubrey Rothermich (Sr) with 9 total blocks, 7 serving aces, and 65 kills, Arreli Felix (Jr) with 11 serving aces, 33 digs and 38 receptions, Addison Rice (Jr) with 56 digs, 5 assists, and 100 receptions, and Laci Christensen (Sr) with 41 digs, 4 assists, 34 kills and 62 receptions.
The Classical Academy
TCA starts their season off with a 2-0 overall record, beating Discovery Canyon 3-0 and the defending state title winners, Village 3-0. The Titans will be looking to add more wins to their overall record Saturday as they take on Mesa Ridge and Manitou Springs. on 9/6. The team will then have a week off to clean up and get rested and will resume play on 9/16 against Palmer Ridge.
Stat leaders for TCA are Aubrie Renn (So) with 8 total blocks and 7 serving aces, Katie Gieske (Sr) with 6 total blocks and 12 kills, Miranda Campos (Sr) with 5 total blocks, 4 serving aces, 21 digs, and 12 kills, Catlee Somersalmi (Jr) with 7 serving aces and 17 receptions, Avery Jaeger (Sr) with 12 digs and 60 assists, Addy Macha (So) with 11 digs and 25 receptions, and Maggie Johnson (Sr) with 1 assists.
Lamar
The Thunder roll into the season with a 1-1 season start. The team lost their first game against Centauri 0-3 but was able to get the win over league opponent Woodlan Park 3-0, giving their league record a 1-0 start. Lamar will be traveling to Rye on 9/6 to try and get a win over the thunderbolts.
Leading the stat board for Lamar is Addy Krug (Sr) with 5 total blocks, 4 serving aces, 24 digs, 1 assists, 14 kills and 25 receptions, Abygail Gonzales (So) with 4 total blocks and 43 assists, Lisette Frias (Jr) with 3 total blocks and 15 kills, Kali Gonzales (Sr) with 5 serving aces, 13 digs, and 13 receptions, Tatym McTaggart (So) with 2 serving aces and 1 assist, Keiton Chavira (Sr) with 22 digs and 39 receptions, and Mireya Gomez (Jr) with 15 kills.
Platte Valley
Platte Valley starts off their season with a 1-1 overall record. The Broncos won their first game against Timnath 3-1 and lost their second game against Wiggins 0-3. The team will be playing this weekend in the Lewis Palmer Tournament where they will be looking for more wins and will play Middle Park and Montrose on 9/6.
Leading the team on the stat board so far this season are Bryla Bunting (So) with 3 total blocks, 3 serving aces, and 13 kills, Charlotte Mink (Sr) with 2 total blocks and 9 kills, Paisley Nelson (Fr) with 1 total block, Megan Hunt (Sr) with 8 serving aces and 47 assists, Talea Huerta (Fr) with 4 serving aces, Addy Grossnickle (Sr) with 34 digs, 1 assist, and 45 receptions, Madelis Trevizo (Sr) with 9 digs and 9 receptions, Delaney Uyemura (So) with 7 digs, Laque Premo (Sr) with 12 kills, and Kayton Kneebone (Sr) with 12 receptions.
The Vanguard School
Vanguard starts their season with a 3-0 record, getting wins over Fowler 3-2 , Rocky Ford 3-0, and Widefield 3-0. The Coursers will continue play this weekend as the will host Forge Christian on 9/6 and then they will kick-off next weeks play on the road against Peyton on 9/10.
Stat leaders for Vanguard are Ava Davis (Sr) with 5 total blocks, Jenna Henson (So) with 4 total blocks and 28 kills, Olivia Dommer (Jr) with 5 serving aces, Meining Zhang (Jr) with 3 total blocks, 27 digs, 44 assists, and 31 kills, Aili Haisley (Jr) with 99 digs and 48 receptions, Izzy Brown (So) with 40 digs, 18 kills and 35 receptions, Ainsley Anderson (So) with 62 assists, Kayla Heidel (Sr) with 6 serving aces and Laila Czarniawski (Fr) with 36 receptions.
Bayfield
Bayfield currently sits with a 2-1 overall record to start the season. The Wolverines beat Delta 3-0 and Durango 3-1 but lost to Montrose 0-3. The team will be looking to add more wins to their record this week as they will play in the Lewis Palmer Tournament and will start that off against Windsor on 9/6. Next week, Bayfield will start league play and will face Montezuma-Cortez on 9/9 and Alamosa on 9/11.
Gunnison
Gunnison kicks off their season with a 1-1 record so far, losing to Sanford 1-3 but beating Coal Ridge 3-0. The win over Coal Ridge was also a win in league play, giving the Cowboys a 1-0 league start and setting them up in 1st in the Western Slope League. Gunnison will be playing in the D’Evelyn Tournament on 9/6 and will be looking to get more wins added to their record throughout the tournament.
Stat leaders for Gunnison are Rose Kowal (Sr) with 12 total blocks, 5 serving aces, and 18 kills, Maya Petrie (Jr) with 8 total blocks, Aubrey Welfelt (Sr) with 3 total blocks, 3 serving aces, 22 digs, 25 kills and 19 receptions, Ruthie Lock (Sr) with 3 serving aces and 36 receptions, Aubriel Loken (Sr) with 29 digs, 5 assists, and 66 receptions, Natalia Sabino (Jr) 26 digs and 28 assists, Addison Claus (So) with 30 assists, and Kaya Burnett (Jr) with 14 kills.
Village
Village, the defending state champions, start their season off with a surprising 2-5 record. Their wins have been over Sand Creek 3-0 and Liberty 3-0, but their losses were against TCA 0-3, Ralston Valley 0-2, Castle View 0-2, Cherokee Trail 1-3, Rocky Mountain 2-3. The Mountaineers will be looking to change their luck around in their next few games which will be next week against Manitou Springs on 9/9 and Sand Creek on 9/11.
Leaders for the team on the stat board are Norah Hollis (So) with 4 total blocks, 33 kills, and 27 receptions, Ella Dorelus-Weems (Fr) with 4 total blocks, Maiya Yeaton (Sr) with 2 total blocks, 17 digs, and 1 assist, Mary Estes (Fr) with 5 serving aces, 15 digs, 18 kills and 49 receptions, Alyssa Simmons (Fr) have 5 serving aces and 15 kills, Addison Miller (Sr) with 4 serving aces, 73 assists, and Dylan Teague (Sr) with 31 digs and 69 receptions.
Forge Christian
The Fury are currently 1-2 at the beginning of the season, with a win over DSST: Conservatory Green 3-0 and losses to Lyons 1-3 and Colorado Academy 1-3. The loss to Colorado Academy results in a loss on their league record, giving them a 0-1 league start. Forge Christian will play The Vanguard School on 9/6 to end the week and then will start next week against Denver Christian on 9/9 and Platte Valley on 9/11.
Leading the team on the stat board are Auburn Bohall (Sr) with 3 total blocks, 6 serving aces, Finley Queen (Jr) with 2 total blocks, Maddie Saba (Jr) with 1 total blocks and 17 kills, Abby Nance (Sr) with 11 serving aces, 16 digs, 69 assists, and 16 kills, Genevieve Leonardi (So) with 10 serving aces and 6 assists, Auburn Bohall (Sr) with 6 serving aces, Addison Davis (Jr) with 27 digs, 4 assists, 26 kills and 39 receptions, Bella Tiner (So) with 18 digs and 53 receptions, and Bella Geypens (Sr) with 28 receptions.
Sterling
The Tigers start their season off with a 3-1 overall record with wins over St. Mary’s 3-0, St Mary’s Academy 3-0, and Weld Central 3-0 and their single loss being to Sidney 1-3. The next game for Sterling will be against Gering on the road on 9/6. Next week, the team will go to Strasburg to play the Indians on 9/9 and then will be back home to host Scottsbluff on 9/11.
Leading the team on the stat board are Rylie Kaiser (So) with 4 total block, Addi Wright (Sr) with 3 total blocks, 7 serving aces, and 18 kills, Karsyn Tonche (Fr) with 3 total blocks, 32 digs, 43 kills and 36 receptions, Kenzi Rubottom (So) with 17 serving aces, 29 digs and49 receptions, Taylor Tonche (Sr) with 11 serving aces, 38 digs 10 assists and 69 receptions, Berkley Gardiner (Fr) with 49 assists, and Sydney Baseggio (Jr) with 38 assists.
Strasburg
Strasburg starts their season out 2-0, getting wins over Bennett 3-0 and Limon 3-1. The Indians will be looking to maintain their perfect record as they enter the Denver Christian Tournament on Saturday and will start tournament play against FVCS (CO-OP). Next week Strasburg will start league play and will host Sterling on 9/9 and then they will travel to Byers on 9/11.
Stat leaders for the Indians are Laci Zimmerman (So) with 7 total blocks and 27 kills, Hannah Damron (Sr) with 2 total blocks, 31 digs, 13 kills and 24 receptions, Camryn Forbis (Fr) with 1 total block and 57 assists, Brooke Nuttall (Jr) with 11 serving aces, Jenna Echer (Jr) with 8 serving aces, 27 digs, 3 assists, and 51 receptions, and Vic Nuttall (Sr) with 5 serving aces, 22 digs, 10 kills and 13 receptions.
Peak to Peak
The Pumas are currently 6-2 overall on the season, with wins over Frontier Academy 2-0, Heritage Christian 2-1, Loveland Classical 2-0, Highland 2-0, Liberty Common 3-0 and Riverdale Ridge 3-2, and losses to Centaurus 0-3 and Wellington 0-3. Peak to Peak will be taking a few days off and will resume games on 9/11 against Eaton.
Leading the team on the stat board so far this season are Clara Wright (So) with 16 total blocks, 12 serving aces, and 55 kills, Charlotte Lindberg (Fr) with 6 total blocks and 20 kills, Mae LaRue (So) with 5 total blocks, Tessa Hirt (So) with 9 serving aces, 34 digs, and 113 assists, Natalia Bejarano (Jr) with 8 serving aces, 60 digs, 7 assists, and 80 receptions, Molly Sessions (Fr) with 37 digs and 45 receptions, Gianna Clark (So) with 4 assists, and Eliana Foster (So) with 62 receptions.
The Academy
The Academy currently has a 2-3 overall record, getting wins over Arrupe Jesuit 3-0 and Greeley West 3-0, but falling to Jefferson Academy 1-3, Lutheran 0-3 and Mountain View 1-3. The Wildcats will be looking to flip the script and get some wins under their belt next week as they will host DSST: Montview on 9/9. The team will then be looking to carry that win into league play which will start for The Academy on 9/16 against Kent Denver.
