Class 3A Softball Weekly Review and Preview

This week we are about to hit the midway point of the season. We will be taking a look at the top 16 teams in the CHSAA Seeding Index. With all perfect records down the drain for the season, it will prove to be a good race on the back half of the season. As usual, we will recap how the last week of play went for each team and what is coming up for them.

Eaton

Eaton is 10-2 on the season with a 2-0 league record, placing them in 1st in the Patriot league. The Reds played the Southeast Colorado last week, getting the win 7-1, Palmer Ridge with a win on 8-2, Elizabeth who Eaton fell to 1-9 and Sterling who the team beat 17-0. Eaton is sitting at the top of the CHSAA Seeding Index currently and will be looking to stay there as they will be taking on Forge Christian on 9/11 and Holy Family on 9/13.

Stat leaders for the Reds are Bria Foster with 4 home runs, a 1.45 ERA, 22 hits and 21 RBI, Emma Anderson with 3 home runs, 8 stolen bases, 16 runs, and 14 RBI, Johanna Galvan with 2 home runs, a 0.51 ERA, 16 hits and 16 RBI, Kenzie Braddy with 6 stolen bases, a 1.17 ERA, 15 runs, and 18 hits, Paige Hofer with 5 stolen bases, and Brooklyn Minne with 17 runs.

University

The Bulldogs currently have an 11-2 overall record with a 2-0 league record and are currently sitting in 2nd in the Patriot League. University had a perfect record until last week. The team started the week of play with a win over Pueblo South 17-0, but then the team lost their next two games against Elizabeth 2-12 and Plamer Ridge 12-18. The team was able to come back yesterday and get the league win over Valley 16-1. The Bulldogs will be looking to get another win streak going as they will take on Fort Lupton on 9/12 to end this week. Next week the team will play The Academy on 9/15 and Brush on 9/16.

Leaders on University’s stat board are Natalie Galindo with 4 home runs, 19 runs, and 23 RBI, Kendall Dietz with 2 home runs, Jasi Cole with 2 home runs, 7 stolen bases, a 0.70 ERA, 18 runs, 16 hits and 13 RBI, Emma Zacheis with 7 stolen bases, Kenzie Wyatt with 5 stolen bases, a 3.77 ERA, 17 runs, and 20 hits, and Sydney Goetzel with a 7.97 ERA, 18 hits and 15 RBI.

Wellington

Wellington sits with a 9-2 overall record this far into the season with a 2-2 league record, placing them 5th in the Longs Peak League. In the last week of play, the Eagles lost to league opponent Northridge 4-10, but beat Rocky Ford 6-3, Platte Valley 10-6, Sterling 10-5, Brush 14-12, and Mountain View 16-0. To round out the week, the team will play Greeley Central on 9/11 and Timnath on 9/13 which will both be league games. Next weeks play will kick off for Wellington on the road against Thompson Valley in a league game on 9/16.

Leaders for Wellington on the stat board are Taylor Morgan with 2 home runs, a 3.62 ERA, and 9 RBI, Charley Somday with 12 stolen bases, Kensley Story with 11 stolen bases, 22 runs, 20 hits and 12 RBI, Kiley Newberry with 7 stolen bases, London Morgan with a 4.82 ERA, Camryn Strain with 14 runs, Scarlet McGuire with 10 runs and 9 hits, Reganne Johnson with 10 hits and Lauryn Neal with 8 RBI.

Forge Christian

Forge Christian was able to get a win in their last game over Green Mountain 11-1. This win put the team at 11-1 overall with a 1-0 league record and in 1st in the Denver Metro league. After a week since their last game, the Fury will be hosting Mullen today where they will be looking to get another win. Then the team will play Eaton on 9/11 and will try to add another loss to Eaton’s’ record, and then the Fury will play Southeast Colorado to end the week on 9/13.

Forge Christian stat leaders are Rio Beck with 14 stolen bases, 19 runs, 26 hits, and 17 RBI Maxine Rossi with 11 stolen bases and 17 hits, Vivian Stults with 9 stolen bases and 18 runs, Juliann Alfaro with a 2.14 ERA, 18 hits and 22 RBI, Kaedence Miller with 18 runs, and Honor Kuyper with 21 RBI.

Brush

Brush currently has an 8-2 overall record with a 2-0 league record and are 3rd in the Patriot league. The Beetdiggers were able to beat Lyons last week 6-5 in a close league game, then the team was able to also beat Limon 12-2, Rocky Ford 16-1, and Platte Valley 15-0 but fell to Wellington 12-14. This week Brush will play Skyline on 9/12 and then depending wins and losses, will play another team on 9/13 as a part of the Rumble on the Ridge tournament. Next week the Beetdiggers will start their week of play against University in a league game on 9/16.

Stat leaders for the Beetdiggers are Haedynn Epple with 2 home runs, 12 runs, and 10 RBI, Gracie Martinez with 6 stolen bases and 14 runs, Jolie Tuck with 6 stolen bases and 13 hits, Isabella Mesch with 4 stolen bases, Emry Chard with a 1.24 ERA, Elizabeth Peckham with a 3.65 ERA and 12 hits, Izabella Talmich with 12 runs, 16 hits and 15 RBI, and Angelique Schrum with 9 RBI.

Lyons

Lyons presently have an 8-3 overall record with a 1-2 league record, putting them in 7th in the Patriot League. In the last week of play, the Lions fell to Brush 5-6 but was able to get wins over The Academy 16-4 and Weld Central 11-12. The team will be looking to add more wins to their record this week as they will take on Timnath on 9/11. Next week the team will start play against Platte Canyon on 9/15 and then the team will travel to Platte Valley to play a league game on 9/16.

Stat leaders for Lyons is Gretta Wynja with 3 home runs, a 1.35 ERA, 20 hits and 23 RBI, Dahlia Oviatt with 1 home run, 3 stolen bases, 14 runs, 14 hits and 16 RBI, Ava Vasquez with 1 home run and 22 runs, Ella White with 3 stolen bases, Taylor Dickes with 2 stolen bases, Greta Hildebrand with 17 runs, and Autumn Johnsey with 15 hits, and 11 RBI.

Strasburg

The Indians have an 8-4 overall record so far with a 1-1 league record and are sitting in 5th in the Patriot League. Strasburg was able to het the win over Pamona last week 10-0 and Resurrection Christian 15-14 in 9 innings but fell to Pueblo South 7-11 and Southeast Colorado 12-22. The team will be looking to get a win streak going this week as they will face The Academy on 9/11 and then Vista PEAK Prep on 9/13. Next week the team will host Weld Central on 9/16 to kick off play.

Leaders on the stat board for Strasburg are Addi Kent with 4 home runs, 6 stolen bases, 19 run, 18 hits, and 16 RBI, Phebe Johnson with 2 home runs, a 6.52 ERA, and 11 RBI, Wynne Winter with 1 home runs, 18 runs, and 16 hits, Payton Weaver with 6 stolen bases and 13 runs,  Madi Olsen with 5 stolen bases, and Rachel Rupple with 16 hits.

Lamar

The Thunder are sitting at 7-5 overall right now with a 1-0 league record and are 2nd in the Tri Peaks league. Lamar was able to get some wins last week including over Falcon 8-4, Pueblo East 6-5, Alamosa 8-1, and La Junta 4-2, but lost to Pueblo County 1-4. Lamar will play two games on Saturday which will be against Palmer Ridge and Pueblo Central. Next week the thunder will host Limon on 9/16 and will be looking to add another win.

Leading the team on the stat board are Khloe Fernandez with 1 home run, 9 stolen bases, 15 runs, and19 hits, Yahirett Roman with 5 stolen bases, Carlin Weber with 5 stolen bases, a 3.28 ERA, 18 hits and 12 RBI, Londyn Navarrette with 8 runs, Alexa Aguilar with 7 runs, 15 hits and 6 RBI, and Natalie Aguilar with 5 RBI.

Cedaredge

In the last week of play, Cedaredge lost to Delta 3-14 but was able to bounce back and get wins over Gunnison 18-1 and 17-4 and Aspen 18-0 and 17-0. This gives the Bruins a 9-2 overall record so far with an 8-1 league record and puts them in 2nd in the Western Slope League. Cedaredge will travel to Grand Junction on 9/13 for their next game and will be looking for another win to add to their record.

Stat leaders for Cedaredge are Tia Homedew with 3 home runs, 6 stolen bases, a 2.47 ERA, 22 runs, 23 hits and 21 RBI, Meri Hollembeak with 3 home runs and 24 runs, Kiera Stroh with 7 stolen bases, 28 runs, 14 hits, and 15 RBI, and Jewel Laliberte with 5 stolen bases, 19 hits and 16 RBI.

The Classical Academy

The Titans currently have a 7-3 overall record with a 1-0 league record and presently sitting in 1st in the CSML North league. In the last week of play TCA got 4 wins and 2 losses added to their record, Beating Rampart 14-0, Prairie View 16-6, Roosevelt 8-7 and Sierra 19-2, but fell to Fort Collins 0-6 and Mead 7-11. This week, the Titans will travel to Sand Creek to play on 9/11 and then will host Woodland Park on 9/13 in a double header. Next week the team will host Florence on 9/15 to start weekly play and then they will host Mitchell in a league game on 9/16.

The Tians’ stat leaders so far for the season are Ada Wilson with 1 home runs, 7 stolen bases, a 3.94 ERA, 16 runs, 16 hits, and 10 RBI, Khaiyah Bacon with 1 home run and 17 runs, Basil Murphy with 1 home run, 6 stolen bases, a 4.63 ERA, 13 hits, Taytum Kimbro with 3 stolen bases, 16 runs, 19 hits and 12 RBI, and Carine Passarelli with 16 RBI.

Arvada

The Arvada Bulldogs are 7-1 so far on the season with a 2-0 league record and are sitting in 2nd place in the Frontier League. The team is currently on a 7 game win streak after getting wins last week over Alameda 15-0, Englewood 15-0, Jefferson Academy 16-0, Peak to Peak 10-1, Almeda 19-2 and Fort Lupton 22-2. The Bulldogs will try to keep their streak going this week and will play Bennett on 9/11, and then next week they will play Centaurus on 9/16.

Leaders on the teams stat board are Salem Duran with 2 home runs and 18 runs, Abby Lopez with 2 home runs, 6 stolen bases, 12 runs 18 hits and 21 RBI, Alyssa Moreno with 1 home runs, 6 stolen bases, a 2.30 ERA, 21 runs, 17 hits and 18 RBI, and Amiah Picaso with 9 stolen bases, 16 hits and 19 RBI.

Delta

The Panthers are 8-4 overall on the season with a 6-0 league record and are holding the 1st place spot in the Western Slope League. Delta was able to beat Cedaredge 14-3, Gunnison 12-3 and 18-7, but fell to Montrose 1-7. The Panthers will not play any games for the rest of this week and will be looking to get another win next week when they take on Eagle Valley on 9/16.

Stat leaders for Delta are Jazlyn Naranjo with 1 home run, 7 stolen bases, 19 runs, 18 hits and 17 RBI, Sophia Siennicki with 1 home run and 20 RBI, Perla Valdez with 1 home run, Olivia Hines with 7 stolen bases, a 7.80 ERA, 20 runs, 17 hits, 20 RBI, Addy Harrison with 3 stolen bases, Lily Gallegos with a 5.35 ERA, Maddy Zmiewsky with 16 runs, and Brylee Brush with 14 hits and 17 RBI.

Alamosa

Alamosa was able to get wins over George Washington 15-3 and Rocky Ford 12-2 last week but fell to Cheyenne Mountain 1-10 and Lamar 1-8. Currently the Mean  Moose are 8-4 overall on the season, 1-0 in league play and are sitting in 1st in the Tri Peaks League. Alamosa will be trying to hold onto that first place spot this week as they will take on a tough league opponent in Southeast Colorado on 9/11. Next week Alamosa will start play off by hosting Gunnison on 9/16.

Stat leaders for Alamosa are Taelynn Kreps-Smith with 1 home run, 4 stolen bases, 7 runs and 8 hits, Araceli Molina with 6 stolen bases, 9 hits and 6 RBI, Shaya Martin with 4 stolen bases, 8 runs, 10 hits and 4 RBI, Olivia Castillo with a 3.92 ERA, Leah Higareda with 8 runs, and Jayden Wubben with 7 RBI.

Southeast Colorado

The Angels of Southeast Colorado are 4-2 overall on the season so far. The team last week started with a loss to Eaton 1-7 but was able to bounce back and beat Pomona 18-8, Strasburg 22-12, and Limon 15-2. The team will be looking to keep their momentum going this week and will travel to Alamosa to take on the Moose on 9/11 and then will host Forge Christian on 9/13. Next week, play will start next week for the team in Rocky Ford on 9/16. The games against Alamosa and Rocky Ford will be the first league games for Southeast Colorado.

Leaders on the Angels’ stat board are Zoe Martinez with 4 stolen bases, 4 runs, 2 hits, and 3 RBI, Hailey Pearson with 1 stolen base and 3 runs. Dixie Bitner with 1 stolen base, Anna Wollert with a 0 ERA, Kennedy Gyurman with a 3.50 ERA, Emma Wollert with 3 runs, Lexi Shotton with 2 hits and 4 RBI, and Bailey Sierra with 1 hit and 3 RBI.

The Academy

The Wildcats are currently sitting with a 7-5 overall record, a 1-0 league record and are 2nd in the Denver Metro League. The Academy was able to beat Weld Central last week 13-8 and Jefferson Academy 12-1in their first league game but fell to Lyons 4-16. On 9/11, the Wildcats will host Strasburg and will be looking to get another win added to their record. Next week the team will travel to University and play a tough game on 9/15 where a win would boost the Wildcats up the seeding index.

Leading The Academy on the stat board are Keara Pogue with 2 home runs, 15 stolen bases, am 11.72 ERA, 20 runs, 17 hits and 16 RBI, Savannah Tolitsky with 8 stolen baes, Finley Stark with 8 stolen bases, 17 runs, 14 hits and 12 RBI, Aubree D’ambrosio with a 4.97 ERA, 11 hits and 12 RBI, Leyla Martin with a 10.50 ERA, and Adrina Arenas with 16 runs.

La Junta

The Tigers are 7-5 so far on the season and with a loss to Lamar 2-4 last night in their first league game, are 0-1 in league play 3rd in the Tri-Peaks League. La Junta had mixed success in the last week of play, falling to Cheyenne Mountain 1-4 and Mesa Ridge 2-3, but getting wins over Sand Creek 11-4 and Coronado 12-2. The Tigers will be looking to get a win on the league record and added to their overall record on 9/11 when they will travel to Rocky Ford to take on the Meloneers. The team will then host Pueblo East on 9/13 to wrap up the week.

Leading the Tiger stat board are Rylie Ortiz with 4 home runs, 9 runs, 15 hits and 13 RBI, Marli Gonzales with 9 stolen bases, 11 runs, 15 hits and 14 RBI, Isabelle Aragon with 8 stolen bases, and a 2.27 ERA, Ayanna Torrez with 7 stolen bases, 9 hits and 9 RBI, and Natalya Herrera with 10 runs.
