CLASS 1A VOLLEYBALL REPORT – THURSDAY
BY: KERRY SHERMAN
Another Thursday brings with it a busy slate for teams ranked in the latest MHPR Coaches and Media poll. Six such matches are on the docket for the night.

#1 MCCLAVE (8-0) AT SOUTH BACA (2-2)
McClave improved to 2-0 in High Plains league action on Tuesday, cruising past #16 Cheyenne Wells in three sets, 25-17/11/6. It was the sixth straight sweep for the Lady Cards. South Baca has been off since being swept by another HPL team, #15 Granada. Sarah Elmore posted 14 kills and three blocks, while Mary Brewer recorded 17 digs.
#3 FLEMING (6-1) VS BRIGGSDALE (0-6)
Some of the bright lights on this rivalry have dimmed due to the rough start by Briggsdale. The Lady Falcons have only been swept once, have gone five sets four times, and lost in four to 2A Heritage Christian on Tuesday. Fleming last saw the court a week ago, when the Lady Wildcats took out 2A #6 Wiggins in four. Ciana Lousberg hammered 16 kills, and Ashley Bornhoft added 14. Brooke Schaefer popped up 27 digs.
#6 FLATIRONS ACADEMY (8-0) VS 2A #9 HIGHLAND (7-2)
The Lady Bison made it five straight sweep victories, downing Denver Waldorf on Tuesday. Five players racked up at least three kills, led by Brylin Gomer with six. Flatirons had a strong night at the service line, with Claire Friedman dealing seven of the team’s 20 aces. Highland had its four-match winning streak snapped on Tuesday, falling in four sets to 3A Windsor Charter Academy.
#8 EVANGEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY (6-0) AT #11 FLAGLER (4-0)
Evangel Christian Academy was in control from the get-go on Tuesday, earning a sweep of #17 Genoa-Hugo/Karval by scores of 25-17/10/23. Ellie Wagner put up 14 kills for the Lady Eagles, while Mia Castro racked up 11. Deer Trail hasn’t been on the court since beating Deer Trail on August 28th. The Lady Panthers have not dropped a set to date.
#14 GRANADA (5-1) AT 2A LAS ANIMAS (3-4)
Granada picked up three wins last week, beating Kit Carson, South Baca, and Kim/Branson, all in sweeps. Emersen Hernandez put away seven kills in the win over Kim/Branson, while Kinsley Williams added 24 assists and five aces. After losing four out of five, Las Animas has won its last two, beating Holly in four on Tuesday in its most recent outing.
#16 GENOA-HUGO/KARVAL (2-3) AT 2A LIMON (0-4)
The sweep loss to ECA on Tuesday was the second such defeat for Genoa-Hugo/Karval. The Lady Pirates also lost in a sweep to #4 Stratton last Thursday. A three-set loss to #10 Hi-Plains on Tuesday left Limon still searching for its first win of the season. Both teams are hunting their first Union Pacific league victory.
