
CLASS 1A VOLLEYBALL REPORT – TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY

A very busy week for teams ranked in the MHPR Coaches and Media poll starts with a big slate early in the week. Those teams will be involved in more than 30 key matches during the week.

TUESDAY
#1 MCCLAVE (9-1) AT KIT CARSON (3-6)
McClave suffered its first loss of the season as 2A #1 Simla avenged an earlier loss to the Lady Cards on Saturday in a sweep. Simla won 25-17, 25-14, and 25-19. The Lady Cards, unbeaten in High Plains action, returns to league play at Kit Carson, who beat Springfield 3-0 last Thursday, but fell to Genoa-Hugo/Karval in five on Friday. After squaring the match with a 25-16 fourth, the Lady Wildcats came up short in the fifth, 10-15.
#4 OTIS (4-2) AT BETHUNE (3-7)
Otis has had 10 days off since beating Hi-Plains in five sets. Aedyn Tribelhorn put away 20 kills in that match, and Crysten Goble tallied 25 assists. Bethune had a rough go last week, falling to 2A Burlington in a sweep on Tuesday, Deer Trail in three on Friday, and then losing both matches in their own triangular on Saturday. Paulina Reyes had a total of 19 kills during the week, including seven in a 3-1 loss to Holly.
#10 HI-PLAINS (4-2) VS 2A WRAY (5-5)
Hi-Plains got back into the win column after suffering consecutive losses the week prior, handing 2A Limon a sweep defeat, and taking out #11 Flagler in fur on Friday. The Lady Patriots won the fourth 25-2. Cambria Seaman piled up 16 kills in that match, while Addison Henschel (11) and Brianna Rueb (nine) combined for 20. Wray evened its record with four straight wins on Saturday. The Lady Eagles beat Denver Waldorf, De Beque, Pikes Peak Christian, and Calhan, each in two sets.
#15 GRANADA (7-1) VS 2A CROWLEY COUNTY (4-4)
Granada ran its winning streak to five with victories over 2A Las Animas and Cheraw. The win over Cheraw was the first for the Lady Bobcats since 2016, and only the third in the last 20 meetings. Four Granada players had at least 20 digs, led by Dayzriana Quintana with 27. Kinsley Williams tallied 48 assists. Camryn Coleman led the attack with 22 kills. Crowley County dropped its second in a row and third in the last four, falling to 2A #6 Rye in three sets last Tuesday.
#16 ELBERT (9-2) VS 2A THOMAS MACLAREN (3-2)
The Lady Bulldogs made it three straight wins, beating 2A Calhan in five last Tuesday, and Cotopaxi in three on Saturday. Paisley Vandergriff put down 20 kills in the first of those two victories, and 18 in the latter. Jadyn Schmidt tallied a combined 64 assists. Thomas MacLaren got its record over .500 with a pair of five-set wins last week. The Lady Highlanders beat Rocky Ford on Tuesday and Calhan on Thursday. Sara Christensen (11) and Abby Hassell (10) combined for 21 kills against Rocky Ford,
#17 CHEYENNE WELLS (6-2) AT 2A #14 HOLYOKE (6-2)
After suffering a 3-0 loss to McClave last Tuesday, Cheyenne Wells got back into the win column with a sweep of Walsh on Friday. It was the fourth win in five matches for the Lady Tigers. Holyoke picked up two wins last week, beating Akron in five on Tuesday and Haxtun in four on Saturday. The wins moved the Lady Dragons to 2-1 in the ultra competitive LPAA.
WEDNESDAY
#13 PLATEAU VALLEY (9-0) VS DE BEQUE (2-9)
The Cowgirls earned their eighth sweep of the season, taking care of North Park last Friday. Presley Hawkins and Kyanna Himes led the hitting parade with nine kills apiece. Plateau Valley served up 17 aces. Prior to a match with Denver Waldorf at the Wray tournament on Saturday, the Lady Dragons had lost five in a row. The results of that match were not reported, but De Beque lost its final match of the event to Calhan.
