Class 3A Softball Weekly Review and Preview

As we head into the final month of regular season play already, we look at this weeks’ top 16 teams in the CHSAA Seeding Index and see how solid each position is or isn’t. As usual, we will look at wins, losses, upcoming games, and stat leaders for each of these teams. Stats for each team pulled on September 16th.

Eaton

With a 12-3 overall record, Eaton is 3-0 in league play and are currently 1st in the Patriot League. In the last week of play, the Reds were able to get wins over Sterling 17-0, Forge Christian 12-3, Valley 9-0, and fell to Holy Family 0-3. Tomorrow Eaton will play Brush and will be looking to add another win to their league record and maintain their 1st place position. Next week the team will face Riverdale Ridge on 9/22.

Players at the top of the stat board for Eaton are Emma Anderson with 5 home runs, 10 stolen bases, 19 runs, 20 hits and 19 RBI, Bria Foster with 4 home runs, a 1.62 ERA and 22 RBI, Isabella Ramsey with 3 home runs, Paige Hofner with 7 stolen bases, Kenzie Braddy with 7 stolen bases, 17 runs and 20 hits, a 1.17 ERA, Johanna Galvan with a 0.68 ERA and 17 RBI and Brooklyn Minne with 17 runs.

University

The Bulldogs currently have a 14-2 overall record after getting wins over Fort Lupton 18-3, The Academy 12-0 and Brush 17-2. With the latest win over Brush, the team is now 3-0 in league play and are currently 2nd in the Patriot League. University will play Lyons to wrap up their week and will be on the road for that league game. Next week the team will travel to Weld Central to play in a league game on 9/23.

Leading the stat board are Natalie Galindo with 4 home runs, 22 runs and 26 RBI, Jasi Cole with 4 home runs, 7 stolen bases, a 0.70 ERA, 22 runs, and 21 hits and 18 RBI Jocelyn Chacon with 2 home runs, Emma Zacheis with 6 stolen bases and 22 runs, Kenzie Wyatt with 5 stolen bases, 3.27 ERA, and 23 hits, and  Sydney Goetzel with 6.92 ERA, 22 hits and 20 RBI.

Wellington

The Eagles sit with an 11-2 overall record after getting wins over Mountain View 16-0, Greely Central 20-0, and Timnath 10-2. Wellington is now also 4-2 in league play and 5th in the Longs Peak League. Wellington will be looking to move their way up the league ranks to end their week of play with a win over Roosevelt on 9/18, and then a win over Berthoud on 9/20. The Eagles will start next weeks play against Severance on the road on 9/23.

The Eagles’ stat leaders are Kensley Story with 2 home runs, 14 stolen bases, 27 runs, 23 hits, and 16 RBI, Taylor Morgan with 2 home runs, a 3.37 ERA, and 11 RBI, Charley Somday with 14 stolen bases, Kiley Newberry with 9 stolen bases, London Morgan with a 4.20 ERA, Camryn Strain with 17 runs, Scarlet McGuire with 13 runs, and 13 hits, Reganne Johnson with 12 hits and Lauryn Neal with 12 RBI. 

Brush

The Beetdiggers are 10-4 after a lost game to University 2-17, a loss to Erie 5-1 but wins over Bennett 15-0 and Eagle Valley 15-6. Brush is also 2-1 now in league play and are 3rd in the Patriot League. Brush finds themselves facing another tough league opponent to end this week and will face Eaton on 9/18.

Brush stat leaders are Haedynn Epple with 2 home runs, 15 runs, and 12 RBI, Jolie tuck with 2 home runs, 8 stolen bases, 17 runs, and 17 hits, Gracie Martinez with 7 stolen bases and 17 runs, Isabella Mesch with 5 stolen bases, Elizabeth Peckham with a 4.25 ERA and 18 hits, Izabella Talmich with 19 hits and 15 RBI and Kyleigh Greenwood with 15 RBI.

Forge Christian

The Fury are 11-3 overall after falling to Eaton 2-13 and Southeast Colorado 1-3. Forge Christian still remains 1-0 in league play and 1st in the Denver Metro League and will try to maintain that position as they will travel to The Academy in a league game on 9/18. The Fury will end the week hosting Strasburg on 9/20.

Stat leaders for Forge Christian are Rio Beck with 14 stolen bases, 30 runs, 29 hits, and 20 RBI, Maxine Rossi with 11 stolen bases and 18 hits, Vivian Stults with 10 stolen bases, 20 runs, Julianna Alfaro with a 2.70 ERA19 hits and 22 RBI, Kaedence Miller with 19 runs, and Honor Kuyper with 21 RBI.

Southeast Colorado

The Angels are currently 7-2 overall on the season with a 2-0 league record, and are 1st in the Tri Peaks League. Southeast Colorado has won their last six games including their most recent games against Alamosa 11-6, Forge Christian 3-1 and Rocky Ford 13-2. The team will be taking on Lamar tomorrow and will try to get a win over the Thunder and then the team will play La Junta next week to start their week of play.

Sitting at the top of the stat board for Southeast Colorado are Zoe Martinez with 4 stolen bases, 4 runs, 2 hits and 3 RBI, Hailey Pearson with 1 stolen base, Dixie Bitner with 1 stolen base, Anna Wollert with a 0 ERA, Kennedy Gyurman with a 3.50 ERA, Emma Wollert with 3 runs, Lexi Shotton with 2 hits and 4 RBI, and Bailey Sierra with 1 hit and 3 RBI.

Strasburg

The Indians won their last three games and got wins over The Academy 18-3, Vista PEAK Prep 14-4 and Weld Central 13-1. This gives the team an 11-4 overall record, a 2-1 league record and are 4th in the Patriot League. Strasburg will be looking to get more wins added to their record and work their way up the league and seeding index ranks and will take on Sterling on 9/18. To wrap up the week, the Indians will travel to Forge Christian to play the Fury on 9/20. Next week the team will play Limon on 9/22.

Leading the Indians on the stat board are Addi Kent with 6 home runs, 8 stolen bases, 28 runs, 24 hits and 21 RBI, Phebe Johnson with 3 home runs, and a 6.80 ERA, Madi Olsen with 3 home runs, 6 stolen bases, 22 hits and 21 RBI, Payton Weaver with 7 stolen bases and 19 RBI, and Wynne Winter with 24 runs and 20 hits.

Lyons

Lyons are currently 10-3 overall on the season with a 2-2 league record and are 5th in the Patriot League. The Lions have added wins to their record in their most recent games, including over Timnath 8-4 and Platte Valley 5-0. Lyons has a tough opponent to end the week and will play University on 9/18 to end this week. Next week the team will host Berthoud and will be looking to get more wins added to their record.

The Lions’ stat leaders are Gretta Wynja with 4 home runs, a 1.52 ERA, 23 hits, and 24 RBI, Dahlia Oviatt with 2 home runs, 3 stolen bases, 16 runs, 15 hits and 18 RBI, Ava Vasquez with 1 home run, and 24 runs, Taylor Dickes with 3 stolen bases, Ella White with 3 stolen bases, Greta Hildebrand with 17 runs, and Autumn Johnsey with 15 hits and 11 RBI.

The Classical Academy

TCA is 11-3 overall on the season with a 2-0 league record and are currently 1st in the CSML North League. The Titans won their last four games and beat Sand Creek 11-0, Woodland Park 14-1 and 20-2, and Florence 6-1. The team will be looking to get game six in a row and will play Falcon on 9/18 to end their week and then will resume play next week by hosting Elizabeth in a league game on 9/23.

TCA stat leaders are Khaiyah Bacon with 3 home runs, 8 stolen bases, and 24 runs, Ada Wilson with 2 home runs, 12 stolen bases, a 2.86 ERA, 23 runs, and 17 RBI, Carina Passarelli with 2 home runs and 25 RBI, Tatyum Kimbro with 8 stolen bases 23 runs, 25 hits, and 15 RBI, and Basil Murphy with a 4.26 ERA and 20 hits.

Delta

The Panthers are currently 9-4 overall on the season with a 6-0 league record and are sitting 1st in the Western Slope League. Delta beat Gunnison last week 18-7 and then beat Eagle Valley yesterday 14-4. Delta will be looking to hold their league rank to end this week and will face league opponent Aspen on 9/19. Next week, the Panthers will play Basalt on 9/23.

Leading the team on the stat board this season are Jazlyn Naranjo with 1 home run, 7 stolen bases, 19 runs, 18 hits, and 17 RBI, Sophia Siennicki with 1 home run, Perla Valdez with 1 home run, Olivia Hines with 7 stolen bases, a 7.80 ERA, 20 runs, and 17 hits, Addy Harrison with 3 stolen bases, Lily Gallegos with a 5.35 ERA, Maddy Zmiewsky with 16 runs, and Brylee Bush with 14 hits and 17 RBI.

Lamar

The Thunder are currently 8-7 after a win over Limon 12-0. This was a good confidence boosting game for Lamar after the team experienced two losses last week to Palmer Ridge 3-4 and Pueblo Central 2-5. Lamar is currently 1-0 in league play and holds the 2nd t place spot in the Tri Peaks League. The Thunder will wrap up their week of play by taking on league opponents Southeast Colorado on 9/18 and Alamosa on 9/20, where the Thunder will be looking to hold their spot in league. Lamar will start play next week against Rocky Ford on 9/23.

Lamar’s stat leaders are Khloe Fernandez with 1 home run, 9 stolen bases, 16 runs, 20 hits and 6 RBI, Yahirett Roman with 6 stolen bases, Carlin Weber with 5 stolen bases and a 3.15 ERA, Londyn Navarrette with 8 runs, Alexus Campbell with 7 runs, and Alexa Aguilar with 16 hits and 6 RBI.

Arvada

The Bulldogs fall to 9-2 after a 9-2 loss to Centaurus last night. This loss breaks the teams 9 game win streak, which included the recent wins over Bennett 24-3 and Platte Canyon to forfeit, putting the team at 4-1 in league play and in 2nd in the Frontier League. Arvada will be looking to bounce back and get another league win and will face Englewood and Middle Park to end the week on 9/20. Next week the team will kick off play against Forge Christian on 9/23.

Stat leaders for Arvada are Abby Lopez with 3 home runs, 6 stolen bases, 22 hits, and 28 RBI, Salem Duran with 2 home runs, 20 runs, Alyssa Moreno with 2 home runs, a 2.08 ERA, 25 runs, 18 hits, and 23 RBI, Amiah Picaso with 11 stolen bases, 18 hits and 23 RBI, and Desiree Beaumont with 6 stolen bases.

Cedaredge

The Bruins fell to Grand Junction in their last played game 1-9, putting their overall record to 9-3, their league record 8-1, and has the team sitting 2nd in the Western Slope. Cedaredge will have a double header today and will be on the road to take on Montrose and then the team will end the week hosting a double header against Meeker on 9/25.

Current stat leaders for the Bruins are Tia Homedew with 3 home runs, 6 stolen bases a 2.47 ERA, 22 runs, 23 hits, 21 RBI, Meri Hollembeak with 3 home runs and 24 runs, Kiera Stroh with 7 stolen bases, 28 runs, 14 hits and 15 RBI, and Jewel Laliberte with 5 stolen bases, 19 hits, and 16 RBI.

Alamosa

Alamosa has a 9-5 overall record with a win over Gunnison last night 12-0. The Mean Moose beat Rocky Ford last week 12-2 and fell to Southeast Colorado 6-11. This makes the league record 1-1 and puts the team 4th in the Tri-Peaks League. Alamosa will host the La Junta Tigers on 9/18 and then will travel to Lamar on 9/20 to end the week. Next week the Mean Moose will travel to Gunnison in a rematch and will be looking to add more wins to their record.

Leading the team on the stat board so far this season are Jayden Wubben with 1 home run, 8 hits, and 9 RBI, Taelynn Kreps-Smith with 1 home run, 4 stolen bases and 8 runs, Araceli Molina with 6 stolen bases, 12 hits and 7 RBI, Shaya Martin with 4 stolen bases, 8 runs, 11 hits and 6 RBI, Olivia Castilo with 4.59 ERA, and Leah Higareda with 8 runs.

La Junta

The Tigers are currently 9-5 overall on the season with a 1-1 league record and are currently in 3rd in the Tri Peaks League. The Tigers have won their last two games, getting victories over Rocky Ford 15-2 and Pueblo East 6-5. La Junta will be traveling to Alamosa on 9/18 to play in a league game and will be looking to get a win to add to their overall and league record.

Stat leaders for the Tigers are Rylie Ortiz with 4 home runs, 13 runs, 17 hits and 15 RBI, Marli Gonzales with 13 stolen bases, 14 runs, 17 hits, and 15 RBI, Ayanna Torrez with 9 stolen bases, 10 hits and 10 RBI, Isabelle Aragon with 8 stolen bases and a 2.09 ERA, and Natalya Herrera with 12 runs.

The Academy

The Academy is currently 500 on the season with a 7-7 overall record and a 1-0 league record are 2nd in the Denver Metro Legue. The Wildcats lost their last two games, falling to Strasburg 3-18, and University 0-12 during the last week of play. The team will be playing another league game tomorrow and will face league opponent Forge Christian at home. Next week the team will start their week of play on road and will face Peak to Peak on 9/23.

Leaders for the team on the stat board this season are Keara Pogue with 2 home runs, 15 stolen bases, an 11.72 ERA, 20 runs, 17 hits, and 16 RBI, Finley Stark with 1 home run, 8 stolen bases. 19 runs, 15 hits, and 13 RBI, Savannah Tolitsky with 8 stolen bases, Aubree D’ambrosio with a 7.15 ERA and 13 RBI, and Harper Scott with 16 runs and 12 hits.
