
Class 2A Volleyball Weekly Review and Preview

As we get into the middle of the volleyball season, we are down to three team who still remain undefeated on the season. This week we will look at these teams and the rest of top 16 teams in the CHSAA Seeding Index and see their recent wins, upcoming games, and who is leading their team so far this season.

Sanford
The Mustangs are one of three teams who still have a perfect record at 6-0 overall, 2-0 in league play, and are currently holding the 2nd place spot in the Southern Peaks League. Sanford was able to get a good league win over Del Norte last week 3-2 to help keep their record and ranking. The team will be looking to keep this success going this week as they will be traveling to Trinidad on 9/20 for another league game.
Dolores
The second team who remails undefeated on the season, the Bears are currently 8-0 overall on the season, 3-0 in league play and 1st in the San Juan Basin League. Dolores got wins over Mancos 3-0, Ouray 3-0 and Nucla 3-0 in the last week of play to help them get this record. The team will be playing to keep their record afloat tonight and will be traveling to Telluride to play in a league game and then the team will end this week by hosting Norwood on 9/20. The Bears will kick off next week with a game against Ignacio on 9/23.
Stat leaders for Dolores are Addyson Wyatt with 13 total blocks and 109 assists, Akaia Edwards with 5 total blocks, Madi Thornbrugh with 2 total blocks, 19 serving aces, 50 digs, 88 assists, and 18 kills, Kendall Chavez with 29 serving aces, 57 digs, 64 kills and 74 receptions, Layla Mitchell with 13 serving aces, 92 digs, and 94 receptions, Aubree Wyatt with 13 assists, 124 kills and 56 receptions.
Holyoke
The Dragons currently have a 7-2 overall record after beating Haxtun 3-1 and Cheyenne Wells 3-2 in the last week of play. This also gives the team a league record of 2-1 and puts them in 5th in the Lower Platte League. Holyoke will be looking to add more wins to their overall record to end the week and will take on Prairie on 9/19.
Lyons
The Lions are last team that still remain undefeated up to this point in the season with an 8-0 overall record, a 4-0 league record, and they currently hold the 1st place spot in the Mile High League. Lyons got two wins in the last week of play which were over Gilpin County 3-0 and DCA 3-1. The team does not have any games the rest of this week but will start play next week against Highland in a league game on 9/23.
Leading the team on the stat board so far this season are Michaela Coleman with 33 total blocks and 96 kills, Carmen Dumnauld with 12 total blocks, 18 serving aces, and 227 assists, Poet MacKinnon with 8 total blocks, Annabelle Hay with 27 serving aces, 67 digs, 13 assists, 65 kills and 103 receptions, Audrey Voss with 20 serving aces, 81 digs, 59 kills, and 90 receptions, and Gwen Gadbaw with 60 digs, 8 assists, and 115 receptions.
Swink
Swink moves their way up the seeding index with week with a win over Rye 3-2 and Walsenburg 3-0 in the last week pf play. This puts the Lions at 7-2 overall on the season, and 7-0 in league play, giving them the 1st place spot in the Santa Fe League. The team will be looking to add another win to their record tonight and will be hosting Granda to end this week of play. Next week, the team will travel to Cheraw on 9/23 and will be looking to keep their momentum going.
Sitting at the top of the stat board for Swink are Taylor Mendenhall with 41 total blocks, 21 serving aces, and 72 kills, Daisy Heberlie with 30 total blocks, 91 digs, and 70 kills, Kashlynn Blasingame with 23 total blocks, 78 digs, and 127 assists, Lariana Taggart with 26 serving aces, 118 digs, 8 assists, and 143 receptions, Briana McElroy with 23 serving aces and 122 assists, Madelyn Bamber with 34 kills, and Jocelynn James with 65 receptions.
Rye
Rye is currently 7-1 overall on the season, 3-1 in league play, and are 2nd in the Santa Fe League. The Thunderbolts lost to Swink last week 2-3 but was able to get the win over Hoehne 3-0 in their most recent game. The team will be looking to gain momentum and get more wins on their record and will host Peyton on 9/19 and then Buena Vista right after. Rye will then travel to Gunnison on 9/20 to end the week. Next week the team will kick off play against Fowler in a league game on 9/23.
Stat leaders for Rye are Isabella Bond with 13 total blocks and 88 kills, Kayley Newitt with 12 total blocks, Lauren Miller with 5 total blocks, Seine Roy with 31 serving aces, 133 digs, 23 assists and 121 receptions, Kaylee Walton with 24 serving aces and 37 kills, Resse Simpson with 14 serving aces and 98 assists, Olivia Donlon with 78 digs and 102 assists, Trinity Felthager with 45 digs and 60 receptions, and Taylor Pye with 54 kills and 78 receptions.
Simla
After a loss to Merino 0-3 in our last update, the Cubs were able to bounce back and get wins over McClave 3-0 and Calhan 3-0. Simla is now 7-2 overall with a 2-0 league record and are currently 1st in the Black Forest League. To end the week of play, Simla will travel to Wiggins to take on the Tigers on 9/20.
Leading the Cubs so far on the stat board are Katie Gotschall with 16 total blocks, Trenna Kocerha with 11 total blocks, 18 serving blocks, 42 digs, 109 assists, and 49 kills, Haylee Easler with 11 total blocks, Brynlee Amendt with 10 serving aces, 64 kills and 42 receptions, Kinlee Cox with 8 serving aces and 82 assists, Ava Leininger with 62 digs and 118 receptions, Carlee Cox with 62 digs, 8 assists, 64 kills and 52 receptions, and Brynlee Amendt with 64 kills and 42 receptions.
Denver Christian
The Thunder have an overall record of 8-3, 1-2 in league play and are 6th in the Metro league. Denver Christian lost their last game against Forge Christian 0-3 in league play and will be looking to bounce back and get a win tonight over SkyView Academy. League play will resume for the Thunder next week and will host Eagle Ridge Academy on 9/23 and Stargate School on 9/25.
Leading the stat board for Denver Christian is Natalie Bohannon with 21 total blocks and 51 kills, Sloan Huscroft with 10 total blocks, Alexis Ries with 8 total blocks, Amina Weber with 18 serving aces, 85 digs, 97 kills and 137 receptions, Hadley Pellegrino with 15 serving aces and 93 assists, Addison Ruter with 14 serving aces, 71 digs, 52 kills and 108 receptions, Bree Austin with 128 digs, 14 assists, and 139 receptions, and Anna Price with 93 assists.
Buena Vista
Buena Vista is currently on a five-game winning streak, including their last two wins over Trinidad 3-0 and Center 3-1. This puts the team at 8-2 overall, 3-0 in league play, and the Demons currently hold the 1st place spot in the Southern Peaks League. Tomorrow the team will play Peyton and Rye to end the week and then next week the team will play a league game against Crested Butte on 9/24.
Wiggins
The Tigers are 6-2 overall on the season and after beating Haxtun 3-0 the Tigers are 1-0 in league play and 2nd in the Lower Platte League. Wiggins will be looking to work their way up the seeding index and add another win to their record and will play Simla to end the week on 9/20. Then the team will take on Akron on 9/23 in a league game.
At the top of the stat board for Wiggins are Tenleigh Lorenzini with 15 total blocks and 41 kills, Brooke Schmidt with 13 total blocks and 32 kills, Serenity Hawkins with 11 total blocks, Karsyn Kerr with 12 serving aces, 58 digs, 47 kills, and 65 receptions, Kellie Vicchrilli with 11 serving aces, 76 digs, 13 assists and 100 receptions, Saria Hawkins with 8 serving aces, 52 digs, and 49 receptions, Jaydin Busch with 89 assists, and Kallie Green with 74 assists.
Ignacio
The Bobcats were able to get a win in their most recent league game against Telluride 3-0. This gives Ignacio a 5-2 overall record with a 2-0 league record and puts them currently in 2nd in the San Juan Basin League. Tonight the team will be looking to add another win to their overall and league record as they will be traveling to Norwood. To end the week, the Bobcats will host Dove Creek on 9/20 and then will start next week with a league game against Dolores on 9/23.
Stat leaders for Ignacio are Alleah Neil with 41 total blocks, Kelly Sirios with 13 total blocks, 21 serving aces, 117 digs, 165 assists, and 49 kills, Juliann Avila with 9 total blocks, Lainee Bradley with 13 serving aces, 85 digs, and 47 kills, Tarah Baker with 11 serving aces, 106 digs, 27 assists, and 132 receptions, Maliyah Martinez with 10 assists, 46 kills and 68 receptions, and Reggi Gustafson with 51 receptions.
West Grand
West Grand is currently on a nine-game winning streak, with a 9-1 overall record. The last game for the Mustangs was against North Park where they got the win 3-0. League play will official start for the team tomorrow and the Mustangs will face Vail Mountain on 9/19 to try and get a 1-0 start. League play will continue for West Grand as they will host North Park next week on 9/23 in a league game.
Sitting at the top of the stat board for the Mustangs are Jocelyn Holmes with 14 total blocks and 40 kills, Cora Osborne with 8 total blocks, Amber Williams with 4 total blocks, Karla Gonzalez with 22 serving aces, 103 digs, 18 assists, and 143 receptions, Brooke James with 20 serving aces, 82 digs, 52 kills and 134 receptions, Brooke Terryberry with 19 serving aces, 85 digs, 74 kills and 155 receptions, Matti Hayes with 129 assists, and Teagan Bruchez with 52 assists.
Sedgwick County
The Cougars are currently 7-3 overall on the season after beating South Platte 3-0 and Chase County 3-1 but falling to Burlington 0-3. Sedgwick County will end the week with a game against Brush on 9/20 and will try to get a win added to their record before they start league play against Wiggins next week on 9/25.
Leading the Cougars on the stat board so far this season are Piper Buettenback with 15 total blocks and 38 kills, Lainee Nein with 10 total blocks, 10 serving aces, 76 digs, 83 assists, 121 kills and 60 receptions, Gracie Amendt with 7 total blocks, 13 serving aces, and 78 receptions, Ryen Carlson with 14 serving aces, 119 digs, 116 assists, 45 kills and 45 receptions, and Addison Renquist with 75 digs and 35 assists.
Vail Christian
Vail Christian was able to win their last two games that were against Meeker 3-2 and Roaring Fork 3-1. This puts the Saints at 8-2 overall, 2-0 in league play and 3rd in the Western Slope League. Vail Christian will be looking to keep their perfect league record and move their way up in the rankings as they take on Plateau Valley in a league game on 9/19 to end this week. Next week the team will host league opponent Vail Mountain on 9/23 to start their weekly play.
Stat leaders for the Saints are Ryan Baron with 19 total blocks, Mary McClarrinon with 14 total blocks, 115 kills and 79 receptions, Stella Hawkins with 8 total blocks, 15 serving aces, and 45 kills, Betty Bartok with 24 serving aces, 50 digs, 100 assists, and 52 kills, Tenley Brasington with 19 serving aces and 149 assists, and Michelle Teague with 50 digs and 89 receptions.
Telluride
The Miners are currently 5-2 overall on the season with a 2-1 league record and are 3rd in the Sanu Juan basin. The team lost their most recent game that was against Ignacio 0-3 and will be looking to bounce back and add another win to their league and overall record as they will face Dolores tonight. The team will then host Olathe to end the week on 9/20.
Leading Telluride on the stat board are Ella-Rose Aplin with 13 total blocks and 34 kills, Delia Noel with 7 total blocks, 12 serving aces, 61 digs, 84 kills and 97 receptions, Tori Sanders with 6 total blocks and 40 kills, Lori Gleria with 19 serving aces and 66 receptions, Hazel Noel with 13 serving aces, 44 digs, and 72 assists, Ford Fenton with 107 digs and 143 receptions, and Lillyann Mahoney with 66 assists.
Wray
The Eagles are currently 5-6 on the season, 0-1 in league and 6th place in the Lower Platte League. During the last week of play, Wray was able to get the win over Denver Waldorf 2-0, De Beque 2-0, Pikes Peak Christian 2-0, and Calhan 2-0 but fell to Hi-Plains 2-3. Wray will be looking for a bounce back win and an add to their league wins next week as they will host league opponent Haxtun on 9/23.
