
Class 2A Football Preview-Week Four
Two teams inside the top 10 have Bye’s this week but we still have a great schedule of games in Class 2A. Game of the week this week is #10 Elizabeth at Weld Central. Rankings used are from Media/Coaches Poll.

#1 Wellington (2-0) vs 3A Mountain View (1-2), Friday at 6:30pm
Last Week…Wellington improved to 2-0 on the season by blasting Montezuma-Cortez on the road 58 to 0. Wellington has yet to give up a point on defense but they face their toughest task to date this weekend. Wellington had the offense flowing against Montezuma-Cortez racking up over 350 yards of total offense. QB Tanner Gray was efficient going 7 of 11 for 132 yards and 2 TDs. WR Tanner McLean was the top target catching 3 passes for 72 yards and a TD. RB Cyle Kisner led the rough attack with 97 yards and 2 TDs. The strong defensive effort was led by Kaden Bennett (6 tackles), Teagen Greiman (5 tackles), and Joe Noble (5 tackles).
Mountain View is sitting at 1-2 on the season in Class 3A. They opened the year with a 6-0 win over Greeley Central and have since lost back-to-back games to 4A Loveland (72-0) & to 5A Mountain Range (25-8). On the season the offense has been powered by the passing attack which is led by QB Cam Frost. Frost has thrown for 275 yards and 2 TDs while leading the rushing attack with 166 yards and 1 TD. WR Everett Williamson is the top target with 7 catches for 65 yards. Defensively Navore Bearing (18 tackles) & Barrett Plewes (15 tackles) lead the Mountain View defense.
Last year…Last season Mountain View defeated Wellington 20 to 17.

#2 Classical Academy (3-0) vs La Junta (2-1), Friday at 7pm
Last Week…The Classical Academy improved to 3-0 on the season with a 27-7 win over Elizabeth. That is now two top 10 wins to open the season for the Titans. TCA was balanced in their offensive attack against Elizabeth. QB Jackson Smetana continues to play well for the Titans throwing for 281 yards and 3 TDs. WR Hayden Gustafson led the receiving core with 4 catches for 118 yards and 2 TDs. The rushing attack had one of the better games this season rushing for 212 yards and was led by RB Jackson Schipfer who rushed for 149 yards. Defensively this was a great showing by the TCA defense. TCA forced 4 turnovers in the game with Johnny Howe getting an INT and a Fumble recovery in the game. Hayden Gustafson (12 tackles) and Joshua Knuckles (12 tackles) powered the Titan defense.
La Junta dropped their first game of the season last week falling to Strasburg 48 to 12. La Junta despite the score played Strasburg tough holding them scoreless in the third quarter and cutting the lead to 28 to 12. On the season La Junta has been balanced in their offensive attack. QB Gavin Denahy has played well in his first starts at QB throwing for 205 yards and 3 TDs. RB Chris Barela leads the rushing attack with 113 yards & 2 TDs while RB Raif Robinson is pitching in with 75 yards and a TD. Defensively Joe Nunez (12 tackles) & Jordan Gamez (10 tackles) pace the Tiger defense.
Last year…TCA made quick work of La Junta last season getting the 46 to 0 win.

#3 Strasburg (3-0) at The Academy (1-1), Saturday at 2:30pm
Last Week…. Strasburg improved to 3-0 on the season with a 48 to 12 win over La Junta. Strasburg got out to a hot start up 28 to 6 at halftime and never looked back. Offensively it was the passing attack that got Strasburg going. QB Brody Hopwood had a fantastic day going 12 of 19 for 247 yards and 2 TD. WR Jayden Miller was the top target catching 4 passes for 136 yards and 2 TDs. The rushing attack was powered by RB Cade Hemphill who rushed for 141 yards and 3 TDs. Strasburg defensively was stifling, and they forced four turnovers in the game three of which were INTs by Ayden Dodge. The defense was led by Ethan Freeman (10 tackles) and Jorge Parra (10 tackles).
The Academy got their first win of the season last week defeating Alameda 40 to 0. The Academy offensively was balanced in their attack and they racked up over 300 yards of total offense. QB Ryland Chatterton led the passing attack with 133 yards and 3 TDs while rushing for 38 yards. The rushing attack was powered by RB Hector Mendoza who rushed for 123 yards and a TD. Defensively The Academy was all over the field forcing 6 turnovers in the game, 2 INTs and 4 fumble recoveries. Defensively Aaron Baker (6 tackles), Hector Mendoza (4 tackles), and Lucas Goebel (3 tackles & 2 sacks) led the Wildcat defense.
Last Year… Strasburg used a strong 1st and 3rd quarter to walk away with a 34 to 7 win over The Academy.

#8 Resurrection Christian (1-1) vs 3A Lutheran (1-2), Friday at 7pm
Last Week … Resurrection Christian dropped their first game of the season falling to 3A Palisade 24 to 7. Resurrection Christian has only played 3A Opponents and that continues this week. Last week Resurrection Christian struggled to get the rushing attack going rushing for only 32 yards. Look for RB Britton Walston and RB Jaxson Pszanka to step up this week. QB Jackson Lucas led the offense with 146 yards thru the air and 1 TD. The defense will look to get back going in the right direction. Leaders like MJ Peterson (13 tackles) and Tobin Prebish (12 tackles) will look to lead the defense.
Lutheran is 1-2 in Class 3A. They have played a tough schedule to start the year losing to Cooper TX and 4A Pueblo West. Offensively the passing attack has led the way for Lutheran on the season. QB Eli Abramson has 519 yards passing and 5 TDs to start the year. WR Brody Rasmussen (151 yards and 1 TD) and WR Tav Burt (144 yards and 1 TD) are the top targets. Defensively Kaden Tisdall (21 tackles) and Rylan Tisdall (20 tackles) lead the Lutheran defense.

#9 Basalt (2-2) at Teton ID (1-2), Friday at 4pm
Last Week…Basalt dropped their second game of the season to a 3A school falling to Glenwood Springs 13 to 7. Basalt has played very tough defensively this season and will look to carry that over this week. Basalt offensively last week found some success. QB Karson Schneider threw for 106 yards in the game. The rushing attack did not find as much success racking up just 76 yards and were led by RB Will Tarallo who rushed for 53 yards and a TD. As mentioned the defense for Basalt has played well this season. Last week Dylan Johnston (15 tackles), Chris Hays (10 tackles), and Connor Anthes (9 tackles) led the Longhorn defense.
Teton is from Idaho they are currently 1-2 on the season. Last year Teton ID went 2-7 and did not make the playoffs in Class 4A.

#10 Elizabeth (2-1) at Weld Central (2-1), Saturday at 7pm, Game of the Week
Last Week… Elizabeth dropped their first game of the season falling to #2 Classical Academy 27 to 7. Offensively Elizabeth had 4 turnovers in the game and they will look to fix that this week. QB Griffin Widhalm led the passing attack with 73 yards and 2 INTs. The rushing attack did find a bit more success racking up 144 yards in the game. RB Andrew Martinez had the most success rushing for 68 yards. Defensively Elizabeth did force a pair of turnovers themselves. Coalten Crowner (15 tackles) and Joaquin Aviles (11 tackles) have led the Elizabeth defense.
Weld Central dropped their first game of the season falling to Berthoud 34 to 7. So far this season Weld Central has ran the ball effectively rushing for 756 yards and 10 TDs. RB Harley Nulsen has led the way for Weld Central rushing for 297 yards and 4 TDs. RB Braden Schellenberg has pitched in as well rushing for 188 yards and 2 TDs. QB Luke Witzel has led the passing attack witch 128 yards and 3 TDs while also rushing for 106 yards and 2 TDs. Defensively the Rebels have been led by Aiden Granier (20 tackles) and Harley Nulsen (15 tackles).
Last Year… Elizabeth won a close defensive contest 23 to 6 over Weld Central.
