Class 3A Volleyball Weekly Review and Preview

As we head into the middle of the season, we see some movement in the CHSAA Seeding Index. This week we will take a look at the top 16 teams in the seeding index and see why they are in the top, who has a chance to make some moves, and which players are leading their teams to victories.

Alamosa

Alamosa hits the top of the CHSAA Seeding Index this week after beating Hoehne 3-0, Gunnison 3-0, and league rival Centauri 3-0. This gives the Mean Moose an 11-1 record overall, there only loss still being to Eaton 1-3, a 3-0 league record and currently places them 1st in the Intermountain League. The team will be looking to keep their momentum and rankings in place when they resume play next week against Montezuma-Cortez on 9/26.

Leading the stat board for Alamosa are Aubrey Rothermich with 28 total blocks, 18 serving aces, and 156 kills, Ashlyn Rice with 19 total blocks, 26 serving aces, and 390 assists, Kyla Hawkins with 14 total blocks and 80 kills, Laci Christensen with 15 serving aces, 81 digs, 88 kills and 122 receptions, Addison Rice with 151 digs, 22 assists, and 167 receptions, and Jaelin Garcia with 69 digs, 9 assists, and 62 receptions.

Eaton

Sterling is 9-1 on the season and 4-0 in league play, holding their 1st place spot in the Patriot League. Eaton was able to get wins over Peak to Peak 3-0, Fort Morgan 3-0 and Sterling 3-0 in the last week of play. The Reds dropped from the number 1 spot in the CHSAA Seeding index, but will be looking to get it back and add more wins to their record as they will be playing league opponents University on 9/23 and Windsor Charter Academy on 9/25.

Stat leads for Eaton are Addison Corder with 22 total blocks, Railey Maske with 10 total blocks and 42 kills, Madi Smith with 10 total blocks, 16 serving aces, 62 digs, 144 kills and 105 receptions, Trinity Salberg with 18 serving aces and 174 assists, Hayden Logan with 15 serving aces, 98 digs, 22 assists, and 114 receptions, Chloe Crider with 75 digs, 67 kills and 77 receptions and Skyelyn Lefever with 85 assists.

Resurrection Christian

After getting wins over Colorado Springs Christian 3-0, Forge Christian 3-0 and Frontier Academy 3-0 in the last week of play, the Cougars maintain their perfect season with a 5-0 overall record and a 3-0 league record, putting them in 3rd  in the Patriot League. The team will be looking to keep their success going and will play league games against Valley next week on 9/23 and then will host Fort Morgan on 9/25. 

Leading the Cougars on the stat board are Kaylynn Pardue with 9 total blocks, 18 serving aces, and 36 kills, Tatum Highstreet with 7 total blocks, Kylee Mayes with 5 total blocks, 12 serving aces, 17 digs and 114 assists, Jada Nordhagen with 7 serving aces, 3 assists and 28 reception, Blake Coors with 35 digs 10 assists and 46 receptions, Paige Michaelson with 13 digs and 38 kills, Brooklyn Dipersloot with 26 kills and Amanda Pardue with 22 receptions.

Forge Christian

Forge Christian is currently 7-3 overall on the season with a 1-1 league record and a 5th place spot in the Metro League. In the last week of play, the Fury got wins over Platte Valley 3-2, Peak to Peak 2-1, Skyview 2-0, and Bennett 2-0, but fell to Resurrection Christian 0-3. Tonight Forge Christian will take on Yuma to end the week before a run of league games next week that will start with a game against The Academy on 9/22 and move to a game against Jefferson Academy on 9/24. 

Stat leaders for the Fury are Auburn Bohall with 11 total blocks, Maddie Saba with 11 total blocks and 64 kills, Finley Queen with 11 total blocks, 19 serving aces, and 57 kills, Abby Nance with 36 serving aces, 53 digs, and 237 assists, Genevieve Leonardi with 20 serving aces and 9 assists, Addison Davis with 89 digs, 16 assists, 75 kills and 141 receptions, Charlotte Bisque with 59 digs and 123 receptions, and Bella Geypens with 101 receptions.

The Vanguard School

The Coursers were able to get a win over their league opponents Salida 3-0 to put the team 5-1 overall with a 1-0 league record and in 3rd  in the Tri-Peaks League. The Vanguard school will play against Pikes Peak Christian tonight and will try to add another win to their overall record. Next week the team will travel to league opponent Woodland Park on 9/25.

Sitting at the top of the stat board for The Vanguard School are Ava Davis with 13 total blocks, Olivia Dommer with 9 total blocks and 10 serving aces, Jenna Henson with 8 total blocks and 45 kills, Ainsley Anderson with 23 serving aces and 108 assists, Meining Zhang with 12 serving aces, 53 digs, 74 assists, and 51 kills, Aili Haisley wit h164 digs, 1 assists, and 108 receptions, Izzy Brown with 56 digs, 34 kills and 55 receptions, and Laila Czarniawski with 66 receptions.

The Classical Academy

TCA was able to get the win in their last played game that was against Palmer Ridge 3-0. This gives the Titans a 6-1 overall record so far this season. The team will play a game next week against Manitou Springs on 9/22 before they kick-off league play, The teams’ first league game will be at home against Sierra on 9/23 and the team will be looking to get off to a 1-0 start.

Sitting at the top of the stat board for TCA are Aubrie Renn with 13 total blocks and 35 kills, Katie Gieske with 10 total blocks and16 serving aces, Miranda Campos with 14 serving aces, 37 digs, 39 kills and 43 receptions, Caylee Somersalmi with 25 serving aces, Avery Jaeger with 26 digs and 165 assists, Addy Macha with 20 digs, 6 assists, and 78 receptions, Maggie Johnson with 10 assists, and Ashlyn Delaney with 69 kills and 57 receptions.

Stargate School

The Stargate school went 1-1 in the last week of play with a loss to Prospect Ridge Academy 0-3 and a win over league opponent The Academy 3-0. The team is now 11-1 overall on the season and starts play with a 1-0 league start and in 2nd place in the Metro League. The Eagles will end the week at Kent Denver on 9/20 and then will host Denver Christian on 9/25 in hopes of getting a few league wins.

Stat leaders for the Eagles are Kathleen Shoonveld with 10 total blocks, Autumn Kasten with 9 total blocks, 21 serving aces, and 57 kills, Mya Bruso with 8 total blocks, Reese White with 35 serving aces, 68 digs, and  244 assists, Chloe Pan with 33 serving aces, 46 digs 86 kills and 69 receptions,  Morgan Stitzer with 139 digs, 30 assists, and 157 receptions, Rhyana Winkelhake with 3 assists and 57 receptions, abd Scotlyn Mackintosh with 55 kills.

Prospect Ridge

The Miners are currently 9-1 overall on the season with a 1-0 league record and are 2nd in the Metro League. Prospect Ridge was able to get wins during their last two games and beat Brush 3-2 and Stargate School 3-0. The team will be looking to add more wins to their league record next week and will play Peak to Peak on 9/23 and Jefferson Academy on 9/25.

Leading the Miners on the stat board are Moll McLemore with 18 total blocks, Alessandra Erramouspe with 10 total blocks, Brianna Bransom with 6 total blocks and 66 kills, DeLaney Ash with 38 serving aces and 182 assists, Genevieve Forsman with 22 serving aces, 101 digs 12 assists and 142 receptions, Brook Luhmann with 29 serving aces, 49 digs, 66 kills, and 54 receptions, Ceira Trinta with 48 digs, 55 kills and 107 receptions, and Hannah Karpowich with 13 assists.

Aspen

The Skiers are 7-1 overall on the season and after beating Grand Valley 3- 0 and Cedaredge 3-0, the team is also 3-0 in league play and currently 1st in the Western Slope League. Aspen will resume play next week with a game on the road against Basalt on 9/23 and then will face Roaring Fork on 9/25 in hopes of some overall wins,

Leaders of on the stat board for Aspen are Brooke Jewell with 4 total blocks and 43 kills, Andrea Lee with 4 total blocks and 37 kills, Mary Morse with 2 total blocks, 31 serving aces, 40 digs, 38 kills and 45 receptions, Belle Sinclair with 25 serving aces and 86 assists, Elena Creamer with 21 serving aces, 57 digs, 14 assists, and 85 receptions, Autumn Sherwin with 31 digs and 45 receptions, Ava Braley with 46 assists and Andrea Lee with 37 kills.

Centauri

The Falcons were able to go 2-1 in the last week of play, beating Hoehne 3-0 and Gunnison 3-2 but falling to league rival Alamosa 0-3. This makes Centauri 6-3 overall on the season with a 0-1 league start and puts them in 4th in the Intermountain LeGUE. The team will take on Pueblo East tonight before facing league opponent Pagos Springs on 9/20.

Leading the stat board for the Falcons are Joselyn McCarroll with 17 total blocks and 39 kills, Analynn Dwyer with 14 total blocks, Kenadie Wilfong with 12 total blocks, 12 serving aces, 91 digs, and 196 assists, Aubree Ullery with 17 serving aces, 78 digs, 21 assists and 128 receptions, Mikasa Gilleland with 15 serving aces, 67 digs, 50 kills and 105 receptions, Lauren Gallegos with 5 assists and 64 receptions and Kynlei Curtis with 64 kills.

Salida

The Spartans are 5-3 overall on the season with a 0-1 league start after falling to The Vanguard School 0-3, putting them 8th in the Tri-Peaks League. Salida will be looking to bounce back and get a league win tonight and will be hosting La Junta. Next week the team will travel to Banning Lewis Academy on 9/23, chasing another league win. The team will then go to Florence to face the huskies and will be looking for an overall win and some movement up the seeding index.

Stat leaders for Salida are Myah Scott with 19 total blocks, Lucy Hughes with 16 total blocks, 65 digs, 31 kills and 71 receptions, Kali Keast with 13 total blocks, Cooper Fisher with 9 serving aces, 116 digs, 9 assists and 95 receptions, Braeden Johnson with 9 serving aces and 29 kills Madysin Wilcox with 8 serving aces, 70 digs, and 113 assists, and Hazel Brown with 4 assists and 72 receptions.

Windsor Charter Academy

With a 9-4 overall record so far this season, the Firebirds fell to Southgate School 0-3 but bounced back and beat Weld Central 3-1 and Strasburg 3-1. Windsor Charter are 2-1 in league play and are currently 6th in the Patriot League. The team will play next week on 9/23 against Brush and on 9/25 against Eaton and will be looking to add more wins to their overall and league record.  

Leading the Firebirds in stats are Bailee Burgener with 18 total block and 36 kills, Aubri Penfold with 9 total blocks, 42 digs, and 141 assists, Vivian Dizmang with 5 total blocks, Emma George with19 serving aces, 83 digs, 24 assists, and 48 receptions, Hannah Richardson with 16 serving aces and 29 kills, Ella Grasmick with 10 serving aces, 30 digs, 60 kills, and 37 receptions, and Cami Goossens with 11 serving aces.

Colorado Academy

The Mustangs are 7-4 overall on the season after getting wins over Kent Denver 3-1 and D’Evelyn 3-1. Colorado Academy is 3-0 in league play and are currently 1st in the Metro League. The team will be looking to add more league wins to their record next week and will play The Academy on 9/25 and Eagle Ridge Academy on 9/27.

Stat leaders for the Mustangs are Vivian Batchelder with 16 total blocks, Bryn Anderson with 13 total blocks, 17 serving aces, and 58 kills, Kendall Anderson with 9 total blocks, 30 serving aces, 77 digs, 119 kills and 124 receptions, Nora Trembath with 26 serving aces, 75 digs and 144 receptions, Alexa Lane with 113 digs and 142 receptions, Violet Judson-Arthur with 109 assists, Riley Martin with 88 assists, and Linley Lujan with 29 kills.

Sterling

Sterling is currently 5-4 overall on the season with a 3-1 league record and are now in 2nd in the Patriot league. Sterling lost to Scottsbluff 1-3 and Eaton 0-3 this week but was able to get the win over Brush 3-0. The Tigers will be looking to add another win to their overall record before the end of the week and will play Yuma on 9/20 and then will play next week against Liberty Common on 9/23 and Platte Valley on 9/25.

Leading the Tigers on the stat board are Bailey Jackson with 12 total blocks, Karsyn Tonche with 10 total blocks71 digs, 83 kills and 66 receptions, Rylie Kaiser with 8 total blocks, Kenzi Rubottom with 42 serving aces, 84 digs, 69 kills, and 93 receptions, Taylor Tonche wit 16 serving aces, 73 digs, 58 assists, and 147 receptions, Addi Wright with 10 serving aces and 37 kills, Berkley Gardiner with 92 assists, and Sydney Baseggio with 60 assists.

Bayfield

The Wolverines were able to come back after a 0-3 loss to Alamosa last week and beat Pagosa Springs 3-0 and Del Norte 3-0 to put them 7-4 overall on the season with a 2-1 league record and in 2nd in the Intermountain League. Bayfield will have a few days of practice before they head to Centauri to play the Falcons on 9/26 and then Alamosa on 9/27 in league play.

At the top of the stat board for Bayfield are Grace Barber with 17 total blocks and 83 kills, Avery Shipman with 10 total blocks, 10 serving aces, 91 digs, 261 assists and 39 kills, Londyn Hollibaugh with 7 total blocks, Lauren Rich with 22 serving aces, 149 digs, 27 assists, and 189 receptions, Evelette Hollibaugh with 13 serving aces, 71 digs, and 116 kills, Maeli Quintana with 11 assists and 101 receptions, Grace Barber with 83 kills and Vivien Clance with 102 receptions.

Coal Ridge

The Titans are currently 7-3 overall on the season with a 3-1 league record and are 3rd in the Western Slope League. Coal Ridge was able to beat North Fork 3-0 and Roaring Fork 3-0 in this last week of play and will be looking to add another win to their record and will face league opponent Grand Valley on 9/25.
