
Class 3A Volleyball Weekly Review and Preview

With a little more than a moth left to go in the regular season, we see some strong holds in the CHSAA Seeding Index and some teams fighting to climb their way up. This week we take another look at the top 16 teams and see who has firm footing and who may be making moves one way or another.

Alamosa
Sitting at the top of the CHSSA Seeding Index, Alamosa is 11-1 overall on the season with a 3-0 league record and are 1st in the Intermountain League. Alamosa has not played in over a week since they last played Centauri which was a win 3-0. Tonight, the Mean Moose will play Montezuma-Cortez on the road and then will host Bayfield on 9/27 and will be looking to hold their place in the IML. Next week Alamosa will play Durango on 9/30 and Pagosa Springs on 10/2.
Leading the Mean Moose stat board are Aubrey Rothermich with 28 total blocks, 18 serving aces, and 156 kills, Ashlynn Rice with 19 total blocks, 26 serving aces, and 390 assists, Kyla Hawkins with 14 total blocks and 80 kills, Laci Christensen with 15 serving aces, 81 digs, 88 kills and 122 receptions, Addison Rice with 22 assists and 167 receptions, and Jaelin Garcia with 62 receptions.
Eaton
Eaton is currently on an 11-game win streak after beating Sterling 3-0, University 3-2 and Windsor Charter Academy 3-0. This puts the Reds at 11-1 overall on the season with a 6-0 league record and are 1st in the Patriot League. Eaton will be looking to keep their win streak going and to add more wins to their league record and will face Weld Central on 9/30 and Strasburg 10/2.
Stat leads for Eaton are Addison Corder with 24 total blocks, Riley Maske with 15 total blocks and 49 kills, Madi Smith with 12 total blocks, 20 serving aces, 74 digs, 171 kills and 127 receptions, Skyelyn Lefever with 23 serving aces and 109 assists, Trinity Salberg with 20 serving aces and 208 assists, Hayden Logan with 125 digs, 26 assists and 141 receptions, and Chloe Crider with 92 digs, 79 kills and96 receptions.
Resurrection Christian
As the last undefeated team in 3A, the Cougars are 3rd in the seeding index, have a 7-0 overall record, are 5-0 in league play and are currently 2nd in the Patriot League. Resurrection Christian beat Forge Christian 3-0, Frontier Academy 3-0, Valley 3-1, and Fort Morgan 3-0 in the last week of play. The team will be looking to keep their perfect record intact and will face Sterling on 9/30 and The Academy and Riverdale Ridge on 10/3.
Leading the Cougars stat board are Kaylynn Pardue with 17 total blocks, 22 serving aces, and 57 kills, Tatum Highstreet with 15 total blocks, Sadie Whyard with 10 total blcoks, Kaylynn Pardue with 22 serving aces and 57 kills, Kylee Mayes with 12 serving aces and 115 assists, Jada Nordhagen with 12 serving aces, 26 digs and 26 receptions, Blake Coors with 70 digs, 17 assists and 88 receptions, Paige Michaelson with 57 kills and 26 receptions and Brooklyn Dipersloot with 41 kills.
Forge Christian
The Fury are currently 10-3 overall on the season with a 3-1 league record and are currently in 5th in the Metro league. Forge Christian has won all of their games in the last week of play, beating Yuma 3-1, The Academy 3-1 and Jefferson Academy 3-1. The team will take the weekend to rest and recover and then they will travel to DSST: College View on 9/29 and will be looking to add another win to their overall record.
Stat leaders for Forge Christian are Maddie Saba with 17 total blocks and 79 kills, Auburn Bohall with 13 total blocks, Finley Queen with 12 total blocks, 20 serving aces, and 77 kills, Abby Nance with 46 serving aces, 74 digs, and 305 assists, Genevieve Leonardi with 20 serving aces, Addison Davis with 107 digs, 18 assists, 100 kills and 180 receptions, Charlotte Bisque with 72 digs, 11 assists, and 145 receptions, and Bella Geypens with 148 receptions.
Centauri
After falling to Alamosa 0-3, the Falcons were able to bounce back and beat Pueblo East 3-2 and Pagosa Springs in a league game 3-0. Centauri is now 8-3 overall now on the season, 1-1 in league play and are currently 3rd in the Intermountain League. The Falcons will be looking to hold onto their seeding index place and move up in their league rankings as they will play Bayfield tonight on the road to try and take their 2nd place rank from them, and then they will play Montezuma-Cortez to end the week on 9/27.

Stargate School
Stargate currently is 13-1 overall, 3-0 in league play and the team is 2nd in the Metro League. The Eagles were able to win their last three games and beat The Academy 3-0, Kent Denver 3-0 and Denver Christian 3-1. Tonight, the team is playing tonight and will face DSST: Montview and then will play in another league game on 9/30 against Eagle Ridge Academy.

Prospect Ridge Academy
Prospect Ridge Academy has won their last three games over Stargate School 3-0, Peak to Peak 3-1 and Jefferson Academy 3-1. The Miners are 11-1 overall on the season, 3-0 in league play and are 3rd in the Metro League. The team will play again next week against St. Mary’s Academy on 10/1 in a league game and will try to add another win to their record and work their way up the league ranks.
Stat leaders for the Miners are Molly McLemore with 18 total blocks, Alessandra Erramouspe with 11 total blocks, Brianna Bransom with 7 total blocks, DeLaney Ash with 41 serving aces and 207 assists, Genevieve Forsman with 36 serving aces, 120 digs, 16 assists and 168 receptions, Brook Luhmann with 31 serving aces, 58 digs, 84 kills and 70 receptions, Ceira Trinta with 54 digs, 63 kills and 118 receptions, and Hannah Karpowich with 62 assists.
Aspen
Aspen is 9-1 overall on the season, 3-0 in league play and 1st in the Western Slope League. The Skiers were able to get wins over Cedaredge 3-0, Basalt 3-0, and Roaring Fork 3-1. The team will play in tournament play on 9/27 and will play other teams like Jefferson Academy, Fort Morgan, and Fort Lupton. Next week the team will resume league play on 10/2 against Coal Ridge.
Leading Aspen on the stat board are Andrea Lee with 11 total blocks and 64 kills, Ava Braley with 5 total blocks and 73 assists, Mary Morse with 5 total blocks38 serving aces, 50 digs, 50 kills and 56 receptions, Belle Sinclair with 39 serving aces, Elena Creamer with 24 serving aces, 75 digs, 19 assists and 124 receptions, Autumn Sherwin with 54 digs and 79 receptions, and Brooke Jewell with 43 kills.
The Classical Academy
TCA is currently 2-0 in league play and 1st in the CSML North with a 9-1 overall record. The Titans were able to beat Manitou Springs 3-1, Sierra 3-0, and Sand Creek 3-0 and will be looking to add more wins to their overall and league record and will host Mitchell in a home game on 9/30.
TCA stat leaders are Aubrie Renn with 14 total blocks, 14 serving aces, and 49 kills, Katie Gieske with 11 total blocks and 30 serving aces, Miranda Campos with 7 total blocks and 37 digs, Caylee Somersalmi with 29 serving aces, 39 kills and 51 receptions, Addy Campos with 37 digs, Avery Jaeger with 30 digs and 197 assists, Maggie Johnson with 48 assists, and Ashlyn Delaney with 95 kills and 64 receptions.
Windsor Charter Academy
Windsor was able to win a couple of games in the last week of play and beat Strasburg 3-1 and Brush 3-0 but fell to Eaton 0-3. The Firebirds are now 10-5 overall and 3-2 in league play, putting them in 5th in the Patriot league. The team will play next week against Liberty Common on 9/29 and against Platte Valley on 10/2.
Stat leaders for the Firebirds are Bailee Burgener with 21 total blocks and 48 kills, Aubri Penfold with 9 total blocks, 20 serving aces, 71 digs, and 211 assists, Hannah Richardson with 7 total blocks and 17 serving aces, Emma George with 21 serving aces, 114 digs, 33 assists, and 114 receptions, Ella Grasmick with 57 digs, 85 kills and 63 receptions, and Vivian Dizmang with 8 assists.
Gunnison
Gunnison is 7-4 overall on the season after beating Olathe 3-0, Rye 3-1, and North Fork 3-0. The team now also has a 3-0 league record and are 2nd in the Western Slope. The Cowboys will be playing Cedaredge to end September on 9/30 on the road and then will start October against Roaring Fork on 10/3.
Stat leaders for the Cowboys are Rose Kowal with 34 total blocks, 19 serving aces, and 63 kills, Maya Petrie with 30 total blocks, Roxie Uhrig with 13 total blocks, Addison Claus with 23 serving aces and 104 assists Ruthie Lock with 16 serving aces and 110 receptions, Aubriel Loken with 143 digs, 23 assists, and 233 receptions, Aubrey Welfelt with 88 digs, 121 kills and 118 receptions, Natalia Sabino with 69 digs, and 148 assists, and Kaya Burnett with 44 kills.
Bayfield
Bayfield is currently 7-4 overall on the season with a 2-1 league record and are sitting 2nd in the Intermountain League. The Wolverines were able to get the win over Pagosa Springs 3-0 and Del Norte 3-0 last week and will be looking to keep their win streak going and keep their ranking in the IML as they will take on Centauri tonight. They will then play the 1st place IML team Alamosa on 9/27 to end this week and will start next week off in Farmington on 9/30.
Leading the team on the stat board are Grace Barber with 17 total blocks and 83 kills, Avery Shipman with 10 total blocks, 10 serving aces, 91 digs, 261 assists, and 39 kills, Londyn Hollibaugh with 7 total blocks, Lauren Rich with 22 serving aces, 149 digs, 27 assists, and 189 receptions, Evelette Hollibaugh with 13 serving aces, 71 digs, and 116 kills, Maeli Quintana with 11 assists and 101 receptions, Grave Barber with 83 kills and Vivien Clance with 102 receptions.
The Vanguard School
The Coursers were able to beat Woodland Park 3-1 after losing to Pikes Peak Christian 1-3. The Vanguard School is now 6-3 overall, 2-1 in league play and are 6th in the Tri-Peaks League. The team will end the week with a road game to Pueblo County on 9/27 and then the team will play another league game on 9/30.
Leading the stat board for the Coursers are Jenna Henson with 18 total blocks and 61 kills, Olivia Dommer with 15 total blocks, Ava Davis with 15 total blocks, Ainsley Anderson with 29 serving aces and 146 assists, Izzy Brown with 17 serving aces, 71 digs, 38 kills and 73 receptions, Meining Zhang with 15 serving aces, 72 digs, 94 assists and 79 kills, Aili Haisley with 235 digs, 1 assists and 159 receptions, and Laila Czarniawski with 97 receptions.
Lamar
The Thunder was able to get wins in their last two games, beating The Vanguard School 3-1 and St. Mary’s 3-0. This puts Lamar at 5-2 overall on the season with a 4-0 league record and are currently 1st in the Tri-Peaks league. The team will be looking to keep their league rank and move up the seeding index and will take on Salida on 9/27 at home and then will face Ellicott on 9/30 next week.
Leading the Thunder on the stat board are Lisette Frias with 21 total blocks, 11 serving aces, and 55 kills, Mae Shelton with 15 total blocks, Abygail Gonzales with 11 total blocks and 187 assists, Addy Krug with 17 serving aces, 101 digs, 79 kills and 84 receptions, Tatym McTaggart with 15 serving aces and 9 assists, Keiton Chavira with 119 digs and 170 receptions, Kali Gonzales with 60 digs, Alessia Salcedo with 5 assists, Mireya Gomez with 69 kills and Alyssa Postma with 62 receptions.
Salida
Salida is currently 6-4 overall on the season with a 1-2 league record and the team is sitting 8th in the Tri-Peaks League. The Spartans beat La Junta 3-0 but fell to Banning Lewis Academy 2-3 in the last week of play. The Spartans will be looking to get some more wins under their belt and move up the rankings as they will play Lamar tomorrow in a league game and then will play La Veta on 9/30 and CSCHS on 10/2.

Colorado Academy
Colorado Academy has won their games in the last week of play including their games against D’Evelyn 3-1 and The Academy 3-1. The Mustangs are currently 9-4 overall on the season, 4-0 in league play and are 1st in the Metro League. The team will end the week facing Eagle Ridge Academy on the road on 9/27 where the team will be looking to add another win to their league record and stay in 1st place.
