Class 3A Softball Weekly Review and Preview

As we approach the end of the regular season, we see teams who are fighting to stay in the playoff bubble. This week we will look at the 17-32 spots in the CHSAA Seeding Index and see who will likely make it into the regionals and who could be out.

The Academy

The Academy has been in the top 16 of the CHSAA Seeding Index before but now finds themselves at 17. This is still a great position for the team to make the playoffs but will affect their ability to host. The Wildcats are now 10-10 on the season, 2-1 in league play and are currently 2nd in the Denver Metro League. In the last week of play, The Academy lost to Silver Creek 8-2 and Weld Central 12-9 but was able to get the win over Fort Lupton 17-7, Thomas Jefferson 21-14 and Peak to Peak 11-5. To end the season, the Wildcats will play Jefferson Academy on 10/3, Forge Christian on 10/7 and Peak to Peak 10/9.

Stat leaders for the Wildcats are Finley Stark with 3 home runs, 13 stolen bases, a 7.88 ERA, 29 runs, 24 hits and 26 RBI, Keara Pogue with 2 home runs, 15 stolen bases, and an 11.72 ERA, Savannah Tolitsky with 1 home run, 10 stolen bases, 23 hits, and 18 RBI, Aubree D’ambrosio with a 7.79 ERA and 20 RBI, Harper Scott with 27 runs and 24 hits, and Adrina Arenas with 22 runs.

Weld Central

The Rebels currently sit at number 18 in the seeding index with a 9-11 overall record, a 1-5 league record and the team is currently 9th in the Patriot league. Weld Central won several games in the last week of play including over Fort Lupton 14-1, The Academy 12-9 and Jefferson Academy 19-7, but the team did fall to Silver Creek 0-15 and University 6-16. The last bit of the season, the team will take on Valley on 10/2. Eaton on 10/7 and Brush on 10/9.

Rebel stat leaders this season are Jennisa Hale with 2 home runs, 6 stolen bases, a 8.69 ERA, 24 runs, and 23 RBI, Payton Collins-Gottschalk with 1 home run, Ally Landers with 1 home runs, 13 stolen bases, 28 runs, 26 hits, and 15 RBI, Lily Reh with 14 stolen bases, Rylee Blair with 23 runs, 28 hits and 17 RBI, and Jadeyn Sifuentes with 24 hits.

Resurrection Christian

Resurrection Christian lost their most recent game to Brush 0-10 to give the team a 6-9 overall record, a 1-4 league record and puts them in 8th in the Patriot League. To finish the season the team still has a week and a half and will play Platte Valley on 10/2. University on 10/7, Eaton on 10/9, and a double header on 10/11 against Moffat County.

Leading the stat board for the Cougars are Portia Hattig with 1 home run, 5 stolen bases 19 runs, and 25 hits, Kylee Kramer with 1 home run, Savannah Johnson with 1 home run, and a 5.77 ERA, Brynne Murawski with 6 stolen bases, Olivia Martinez with 4 stolen  bases, 22 runs, 19 hits and 13 RBI, Jailah Hamilton with a 7.60 ERA, and Taylor Francis with 21 runs, 24 hits and 18 RBI.

Gunnison

The Cowboys still have several games to end their season, but are currently 7-9 overall, 2-4 in league play, 4th in the Western Slope League, and are sitting at 20 in the seeding index. Last week, Gunnison took on the Mean Moose of Alamosa and fell 2-20 but will be looking to add more wins to end their season. These games will be against Montrose today, Meeker in a double header on 10/3, Aspen in a double header on 10/7 and Basalt in a double header on 10/11.

Stat leaders for Gunnison are McKayla Singer with 2 home runs and 16 runs, Romie Uhrig with 1 home run, Caroline Sudderth with 5 stolen bases, 14 runs and 19 hits, Josie Vollendorf with 3 stolen bases, Susan Espinoza with 2 stolen bases, Reese Japuntich with a 7.63 ERA, 19 hits and 11 RBI, and Kaylee Vincent with 21 hits and 22 RBI.

Platte Valley

The Broncos are currently 10-9 on the season after falling to University 0-15, but beating Holyoke 12-1 and 12-1, and Valley 11-4. Platte Valley is 2-3 in league play and currently 6th in the Patriot League. The team will end their season playing Resurrection Christian on 10/2, Eaton on 10/4, Strasburg on 10/7 and Sterling on 10/9.

Leading the Broncos on the stat board are Sydney Meyer with 2 home runs, 13 stolen bases, 19 runs, 19 hits and 18 RBI, Alyssa Kendrick with 1 home run, a 5.93 ERA, and 21 hits, Landree Edstrom with 16 stolen bases, Brooklyn Sater with 14 stolen bases, Danica Fosket with 20 runs and 18 stolen bases, and Kyra Jessop with 23 hits and 21 RBI.

Bennett

Bennett was beaten last week by Montrose 1-13 and 0-13 and got a win by Forfeit from Jefferson. The Tigers are now 10-9 on the season with a 5-2 league record and the team is currently 3rd in the Frontier League. Bennet will be wrapping up their regular season by playing Middle Park today and then Florence on 10/8.

Leaders for the Tigers on the stat board are Jagoda Gutowska with 5 home runs, 12 stolen bases, 29 runs, 30 hits and 19 RBI, Grace Mathis with 3 home runs and 16 RBI, Adelyn Westendorf with 1 home run, 13 stolen bases, and 15 hits, Macy Meyer with 17 stolen bases, an 11.86 ERA, 25 runs, 23 hits and 23 RBI, Colby Robichaud with a 10.77 ERA and 27 runs, and Audrey Harrell with an 18.10 ERA.

Rocky Ford

The Meloneers are 4-16 overall on the season, 0-6 in league play and currently 5th in the Tri-Peaks league. Rocky Ford lost their games last week, falling to Lamar 3-11, La Junta 2-8, and Alamosa 7-8. The team will be looking to end the regular season with some wins and will face Southeast Colorado on 10/2, Limon on 10/7 and Lamar on 10/9.

Leading Rocky Ford on the stat board are Kendra Rodriguez with 1 home run and 8 RBI, Tay’Lor Archuleta with 8 stolen bases, 13 runs, and 10 hits, Benni Martinez with 5 stolen bases, 10 runs, and 7 RBI, Na’Kayla Aguilar with 4 stolen bases, Alexis Baca with a 5.73 ERA, Alysia Marques with a 14.14 ERA, Annesyiah Camacho with 13 runs, 20 hits and 14 RBI, and Brilye Lovato with 18 hits.

Valley

Valley is currently 6-14 overall on the season with a 1-6 league record and are holding the 10th place spot in the Patriot League. Valley lost all of their games in the last week og play, falling to Strasburg 2-19, Sterling 12-20, Platte Valley 4-11 and Lyons 0-13. The Vikings will be looking to add more wins to their record as they end the season with games against Weld Central on 10/2, Brush on 10/7 and Lyons on 10/9.

Leading Valley on the stat board are Danica Flesner with 1 home run, 8 stolen bases, a 12.45 ERA, 20 runs, 31 hits and 23 RBI, Aubree Montoya with 8 stolen basesm 26 runs, and 22 hits, Katherine Orona-Aguilar with 6 stolen bases, Sophia Rodriguez with a 13.57 ERA, Alxis Rocha with 13 runs, 25 hits, and 18 RBI, and RyAnn Litfin with 14 RBI.

Peak to Peak

The Pumas are 6-13 overall on the season, 1-3 in league play and are 3rd in the Denver Metro League. Peak to Peak fell to Forge Christian 0-10 and The Academy 5-11 in the last week and will end their regular season against Adams City today, Jefferson Academy on 10/2, Kennedy on 10/8 and The Academy on 10/9.

Stat leaders for Peak to Peak are Karina Lefort with 1 home run, a 7.81 ERA, 28 hits, and 18 RBI, Haley Haskins with 1 home run, 11 stolen bases, 24 hits and 23 RBI, Grace Trasky with 5 stolen bases, 22 runs, 24 hits, and 21 RBI, Margot McCune with 5 stolen bases, a 4.43 ERA, and 23 runs, and Cindy Woo with 21 runs.

Alameda

The Pirates are currently 10-7 overall on the season with a 4-4 league record and a 5th place spot in the Frontier league. Alameda fell to Kennedy last week 1-12 and was able to grab a win for their record via forfeit from Platte Canyon. The team will be playing in the Frontier League Tournament on 10/2 and will be looking to beat their league opponents. Next week the team will play Golden on 10/6 and Mitchel in a double header on 10/11.

Stat leaders for Alameda are Zila Bobian with 1 home run, 25 stolen bases, 15 runs, 18 hits, and 8 RBI, Peyton Trujillo with 27 stolen bases, 14 runs, 16 hits and 11 RBI, Andi Padilla with 22 stolen bases, Annalia Lucero with a 7.81 ERA, Alia Gutierrez with an 11.80 ERA, Kristell Guerra 13 runs and 10 RBI, and Katelyn Nault with 13 hits.  

Wray/Yuma

The Eagles currently sit 1st in the Lower Platte League with a 4-0 league record and an 11-10 overall record. The team was able to collect some wins in the last week of play, beating Limon 10-4 and 7-5 and Holyoke 16-5 and 13-2. To end the season, the Eagles will be playing Burlington in a double header on 10/9.

Stat leaders for Wray/Yuma are Danyelle Davis with 2 home runs, 15 stolen bases, a 4.85 ERA, 27 runs, 31 hits and 29 RBI, Lauren Gdanitz with 1 home run, 17 stolen bases, 28 runs, and 32 hits, London King with 14 stolen bases, Priscylla White with a 2.45 ERA and 18 RBI, Ellie Oestman with a 8.03 ERA, and Clara Oestman with 27 runs, 19 hits and 18 RBI.

Montezuma-Cortez

The Panthers are 6-16 overall on the season with a 6-6 league record and  3rd place in the Western Slope League. The team is done playing all of their regular season games and lost their last week, falling to Alamosa 12-16, Rifle 0-12 and 4-13 and Delta 3-15. Now the team will wait and see how other teams do to determine their final spot in the seeding index.

Stat leaders for Montezuma-Cortez are Jayden White with 1 home run and a 8.31 ERA, Raegan Veach with 17 stolen bases, 33 runs, 34 hits and 18 RBI, Aubrey Taveria with 10 stolen bases and 16 RBI, Ava Hawkins with 10 stolen bases, a 8.56 ERA, and 24 runs, AnnaLisa Abeyta with a 6.00 ERA, Faith Muzzy with 19 runs, Paislee Mestas with 19 hits and Cejae Snyder with 17 RBI.

Mitchell

Mitchell is currently 2-4 overall on the season with a 1-3 league record and a 5th place spot in the CSML North League. The Marauders lost to Sand Creek last week 1-15 but was able to get wins over Palmer 24-16 and Sierra 30-17. The team has several games left to wrap up the season and will play double headers against TCA on 10/2, Falcon on 10/3, and Woodland Park on 10/4, Florence in a single game on 10/7, a single game against Sand Creek on 10/9 and a double header against Alameda on 10/11.

Stat leaders for Mitchell are Josi Carron with 1 home run, Jordyn Roberts with 3 stolen bases, 11 runs, 10 hits, and 7 RBI, Natalie Gaytan with 1 stolen base, 12 hits and 10 RBI, Ni’Jay Whitt with 1 stolen base, a 20.28 ERA, 9 runs, Jordyn Roberts with 11 runs, 10 hits, and 7 RBI, and Reyna Santos with 9 runs and 7 RBI.

Kennedy

Kennedy was able to get a win over Alameda last week 12-1 to put their overall record at 5-10-1 with a 1-0 league record and a 1st place spot in the Denver Prep League. The Commanders will be looking to add some wins to their record before the end of the season and keep their spot in the playoff bubble. The team will end the season against Mullen on 10/2, Aurora Central on 10/4, Overland on 10/7, Peak to Peak on 10/8, and Arvada on 10/11.

Leading the stat board for Kennedy are Aleeya Garcia with 2 home runs, 12 runs 12 hits and 10 RBI, Alexiah Lunas with 1 home run, 12 stolen bases, 15 runs, 16 hits and 11 RBI, Genesis Lujan with 21 stolen bases, 18 runs, and 14 hits, Izzy Villafuerte with 11 stolen bases, and Giana Valdez with 10 RBI.

Florence

Florence is 7-6 overall on the season with a 1-0 leaguer record and the 1st place spot in the Tri-Peaks II league. The Huskies fell to Canon City 0-12 last week and Alamosa 6-15 but got the win over Palmer 17-4. Florence will end their regular season by facing Woodland Park on 10/2, Sand Creek on 10/4 in a double header, Mitchel on 10/7, Bennett on 10/8 and Burlington on 10/11. Florence will look to add wins to their record and keep themselves inside on the playoff bubble.

Leading the team on the stat board are Addison Dalton with 3 home runs, 10 stolen bases, a 3.09 ERA, 20 runs, and 22 RBI, Lilly Roe with 2 home runs, 23 stolen bases, 27 runs, 26 hits and 19 RBI, Makala Miller with 2 home runs, 23 runs, 18 hits and 19 RBI, and Kendra Steffenson with 10 stolen bases and 17 hits.

Meeker

The Cowboys were able to get two wins over Aspen last week 16-0 and 32-16, bringing their overall record to 4-12, their league record to 3-7 and the team sits 5th in the Western Slope League. With the regular season coming to a close, the team will be looking to add more wins to their record to keep themselves in the playoff bubble. These games will be a double header against Gunnison on 10/3, Battle Mountain on 10/6 and Eagle Valley on 10/7.
