CLASS 1A VOLLEYBALL REPORT – THURSDAY

While the schedule isn’t exactly packed with top match-ups, there are three involving teams currently ranked inside the top-12 of the CHSAA Selection and Seeding Index. This includes a top-10 showdown between Fleming and Otis.

#3 FLEMING (11-1) VS #9 OTIS (10-4)

Fleming ran its unbeaten streak to seven with a sweep of Prairie last Friday. Quincy Stull led the Lady Wildcat attack with 11 kills, and she was followed by Ashley Bornhoft with eight, and Ciana Lousberg with seven. Hadley Stull served up four aces, and Hayley Chamberlain dished out 23 assists. Brooke Schaefer added a team-high 12 digs. Otis ran its winning streak to eight with a pool play win over Akron in the tournament hosted by the opponent, but the Lady Bulldogs were then swept by McClave and lost 2-1 to 2A Yuma. Aedyn Tribelhorn had a total of 33 kills in the tournament, 14 in the loss to Yuma. Freshman Ashton Gross had six total blocks in that match. This is the 16th meeting between these traditional powers in the MaxPreps era. Fleming has won the last four, giving the Lady Wildcats a 10-5 edge.

#4 FLATIRONS ACADEMY (12-1) VS 2A UNION COLONY PREP (6-6)

The Lady Bison bounced back from its first loss of the season to 2A #2 Lyons by sweeping 2A SkyView Academy on Tuesday. Jenna Nehrbass and Brylin Gomer put away a dozen kills apiece, and Sydnie Mangel added seven. Lexi Richman tallied 32 assists. A four-set loss to 2A Estes Park was the third straight defeat for the Lady Timberwolves, with all three coming in Mile High league play.

#8 GRANADA (11-2) VS SPRINGFIELD (6-5)

Granada had its nine-match winning streak snapped on Tuesday by #2 McClave in three sets. After hanging tight in a 21-25 first set, the Lady Bobcats lost the next two by scores of 15-25 and 11-25. Camryn Coleman was the lone Lady Bobcat with more than three kills, as the freshman tallied 13. Coleman also had four solo blocks and 15 digs. Dayzriana Quintana also recorded 15 digs. Kinsley Williams assisted on 21 of the team’s 22 kills. Following a stretch of three losses in four matches, Springfield enters this contest on a modest two-match winning streak. The Lady Longhorns followed last Saturday’s win over Manzanola with a sweep of Wiley in Ark Valley play on Tuesday. They were pushed by the Lady Panthers, but pulled out the win 25-20/16/22. Springfield had won 18 straight in the series with Granada prior to the current two-match winning streak by the Lady Bobcats.
