
Class 2A Volleyball Weekly Review and Preview

As we enter the last month of the regular season, we go back and see some of the shifts that happened at the top of the CHSAA Seeding Index. This week we again look at the top 16 teams and see how the start if the month is going and what is in store on the horizon for these teams.

Holyoke
Holyoke currently sits at the top of the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 15-2 overall record, a 4-1 league record, and are 2nd in the Lower Platte League. The Dragons are on an 11-game winning streak, including Wray 3-1 and Highland 3-0 since the start of October. With a couple of weeks still remaining in the regular season, Holyoke looks to continue their success and will play Briggsdale on 10/14 and Byers on 10/16.
Lyons
Lyons sits with a 13-1 overall record, a 7-0 league record, are 1st in the Mile High League and are 2nd in the CHSAA Seeding Index. After losing to Byers at the end of September 2-3, the team was able to get a win to start October over Dawson School 3-0. The Lions will be looking to get more wins under their belt as we head towards the end of the season and will play Heritage Christian on 10/14 and Flatirons Academy on 10/16.
Top stat leaders for Lyons are Michaela Coleman with 57 total blocks and 172 kills, Carmen Dumbauld with 16 total blocks, 25 serving aces, 147 digs, and 422 assists, Layla Brown with 12 total blocks, Annabelle Hay with 39 serving aces, 119 kills, 20 assists and 211 receptions, Audrey Voss with 35 serving aces, 152 digs, 119 kills and 175 receptions, and Gwen Gadbaw with 169 digs, and 233 receptions.
Simla
The Cubs are currently 14-2 overall on the season after beating Burlington 3-0 and Strasburg 3-0. Simla is now on a 9 game winning streak with a 3-0 league record and hold the 1st place spot in the Black Forest League. The team will be looking to keep their winning streak going and will take on league opponents Fountain Valley on 10/10 and Liberty Tree Academy on 10/16.
Leading the Cubs on the stat board are Katie Gotschall with 29 total blocks, Haylee Easler with 25 total blocks, Trenna Kocerha with 19 total blocks, 243 assists and 106 kills, Aca Leininger with 22 serving aces, 153 digs, 8 assists, and 209 receptions, Kinlee Cox with 22 serving aces and 234 assists, Brynleee Amendt with 21 serving aces, 100 digs, 118 kills and 106 receptions, and Carlee Cox with 121 digs, 154 kills and 128 receptions.
Denver Christian
The Thunder has won all of their game since the start of October, beating Pueblo Central 3-1, Fowler 3-0, Vail Christian 3-1, and St. Mary’s Academy 3-0. Denver Christian is now 14-4 overall on the season, 303 in league play and 6th in the Metro league. The team will be looking to keep their momentum going as they will play Prospect Ridge Academy on 10/14.
Leaders on the teams stat board are Natalie Bohannon with 31 total blocks, Alexis Ries with 12 total blocks, Sloan Huscroft with 12 total blocks, Amina Weber with 33 serving aces, 122 digs, 145 kills and 201 receptions, Hadley Pellegrino with 22 serving aces and 149 assists, Addison Ruter with 18 serving aces, 112 digs, 78 kills and 170 receptions, and Bree Auston with 168 digs, 19 assists, and 204 receptions.
Sanford
The Mustangs lost to Centauri 0-3, snapping their 10 game win streak and their perfect record, but the team was able to bounce back and get the win over league opponent Center 3-0. Sanford is now 11-1 overall on the season, 5-0 in league play and are currently 1st in the Southern Peaks League. Sanford will face Sargent on 10/11 and Sierra Grande on 10/14 and will be looking to get more wins added to their record and stay in the top five of the seeding index.
Stat leaders for the Mustangs are Avery Koenig with 18 total blocks and 210 assists, Jewel Caldon with 15 total blocks and 43 kills, Lettie Larson with 9 total blocks, Rose Schwartz with 29 serving aces and 7 assists, Claire Crowther with 26 serving aces, 83 digs, 13 assists, 101 kills and 118 receptions, Brinlyn Smith with 23 serving aces, 113 digs, and 244 receptions, and Bella Peterson with 71 digs, 99 kills and 123 receptions.
Dolores
Dolores is 13-1 overall on the season, 7-1 in league play and are 2nd in the San Juan Basin. The team also currently sits 6th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Bears were able to beat their league opponent Mancos 3-0 and then beat Norwood 3-0. Dolores will be looking to keep their winning going and will take on Dove Creek on 10/14.
Stat leaders for the Bears are Addyson Wyatt with 24 total blocks, 238 assists, and 34 kills, Akaia Edwards with 10 total blocks, Madi Thornbrugh with 8 total blocks, 33 serving aces, and 169 assists, Kendall Chavez with 49 serving aces, 138 digs, 155 kills and 152 receptions, Layla Mitchell with 25 serving aces, 167 digs, and 189 receptions, Aubree Wyatt with 100 digs, 23 assists, 241 kills and 125 receptions.
Wiggins
The Tigers are 1-1 in October, beating Limon 3-0 and falling to Merino 2-3. Wiggins with 9-4 overall on the season, 3-1 in league play and are 3rd in the Lower Platte League. Wiggins will be looking to try and get more wins now in October and will face Yuma on 10/10 and Caliche on 10/16 in league games.
The Tigers’ stat leaders are Brooke Schmidt with 41 total blocks and 73 kills, Tenleigh Lorenzini with 31 total blocks and 75 kills, Serenity Hawkins with 19 total blocks, Karsyn Kerr with 23 serving aces, 123 digs, 83 kills and 127 receptions, Kellie Vicchrilli with 19 serving aces, 161 digs, 26 assists, and 196 receptions, Kallie Green with 14 serving aces and145 assists, Saria Hawkins with 100 digs and 83 receptions, and Jaydin Busch with 164 assists.
Buena Vista
After falling to Sanford 1-3, Buena Vista has a league record of 4-1 and sits in the 2nd place spot in the Southern Peaks League. The Demons were able to bounce back and beat Custer County 3-0 and La Veta 3-0, but fell to Sargent 1-3. The team is now 13-4 overall on the season and will be looking to keep their league position as they will play Del Norte on 10/16.
Ignacio
The Bobcats are 11-3 overall on the season, 5-0 in league play and are currently 1st in the San Juan Basin League. Since the start of October, Ignacio has beat Denver North 2-0, fell to Poudre 2-1 and beat Greeley West 2-0. Tonight the team will see if they can keep their position in league and will take on Mancos. Then the team will travel to Nucla on 10/11.

Vail Christian
In October, the Saints have beat Limon 3-0, Lamar 3-2, and De Beque 3-0 but fell to Denver Christian 1-3. Vail Christian is now 14-3 overall on the season, 6-0 in league play, and are currently 1st in the Western Slope League and 10th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Tonight the team will take on Soroco in a league game and then next week the team will face Aspen on 10/14.
Stat leaders for Vail Christian are Ryan Baron with 31 total blocks, Stella Hawkins with 22 total blocks, Mary McClarrinon with 21 total blocks, 197 kills and 162 receptions, Betty Bartok with 42 serving aces, 106 digs, 174 assists, and 87 kills, Tenley Brasington with 33 serving aces and 308 assists Michelle Teague with 28 serving aces, 102 digs, 115 kills and 148 receptions, and Sam Bates with 189 digs, 34 assists, and 290 receptions.
Sedgwick County
The Cougars are currently on a 3 game win streak to end September and enter October, beating Wray 3-0, Perkins County 3-0 and Caliche 3-0. Sedgwick County is 11-4 overall, 2-1 in league play, 4th in the Lower Platte League and just outside of the top 10 in the CHSAA Seeding Index at 11. The team will try to keep their win streak going and will play Idalia on 10/11 and then next week the team will play Yuma in a league game on 10/14.
Leading the team on the stat board are Piper Buettenback with 26 serving aces, 82 kills and 98 receptions, Daryn Nein with 17 total blocks and 96 receptions, Lainee Nein with 15 total blocks, 18 serving aces, 154 digs, 177 assists, and 216 kills, Gracie Amendt with 25 serving aces, 135 digs, and 166 receptions, Ryan Carlson with 20 serving aces, 118 digs, 232 assists and 89 kills, and Addison Renquist with 55 assists.
Swink
The Lions are 10-4 overall on the season, 8-0 in league play and are 1st on the Santa Fe League. Swink has played one game since the start of October which resulted ina win over Hoehne 3-0. The team will be looking to get more wins, hold their league place and maybe move up in the seeding index as they will take on league opponent Swallows Charter tonight and then Custer County, Sangre de Cristo and the Vanguard School this weekend.
Leading the Lions’ stat board are Taylor Mendenhall with 81 total blocks, 30 serving aces, and 116 kills, Daisy Heberlie with 59 total blocks, 163 digs, 111 kills and 151 receptions, Kashlynn Blasingame with 34 total blocks, 131 digs, and 225 assists, Briana McElroy with 31 serving aces and187 assists, Lariana Taggart with 30 serving aces, 239 digs, 14 assists, and 269 receptions, and Emma Gacnik with 66 kills.
Rye
Rye is 13th in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 10-5 overall record, a 4-1 league record and are 2nd in the Santa Fe League. The Thunderbolts were able to get the win over Florence 3-0 but fell to Fowler 1-3. The team will be looking to get more wins and hold their league position and will be playing Walsenburg tonight and then Rocky Ford Next week on 10/14.

Meeker
The Cowboys are 9-3 overall on the season, 5-1 in league play, and 2nd in the Western Slope League. Meeker is on a 6 game win streak with their most recent wins being over Cedaredge 3-0 and West Grand 3-1. The team will be looking to keep their success going and will play North Park on 10/10 and Plateau Valley on 10/11.
Leading the Meeker stat board are Raegan Clatterbaugh with 14 total blocks, 15 serving aces, 67 digs, 12 assists, 71 kills and 89 receptions, Sawyer May with 8 total blocks and 19 serving aces, Shailee Rundburg with 4 total blocks, Rylee Sullivan with 19 serving aces, 97 digs, 80 kills and 75 receptions, Braydin Raley with 155 digs and 219 receptions, Jacey Follman with 169 assists, Hailey Schwartz with 76 assists, and Lilly Newman with 48 kills.
Fowler
The Grizzlies are currently 15th in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 10-5 overall record, a 4-2 league record, and are 3rd in the Santa Fe League. October has shown mixed success for the team, Fowler able to get the win over Pueblo Central 3-1 and Rye 3-1 but falling to Denver Christian 0-3 and Lamar 1-3. The Grizzlies will try and get more wins and keep themselves moving up the rankings as they will face Crowly County on 10/14 and Hoehne on 10/16.
Fowler stat leaders are Kacie Day with 15 total blocks, Lorelai Woods with 10 total blocks, Madison Porto with 9 total blocks, Jaslyn Bates with 30 serving aces, 242 digs, 144 kills, and 178 receptions, Delilah Mason with 24 serving aces and 158 assists, Syriah Alvarez with 22 serving aces, 140 digs, 198 assists, and 89 kills, Kory Pieper with 247 digs, 14 assists 96 kills and 192 receptions and Kathy Jackson with 95 receptions.
Burlington
The Cougars are 8-5 overall on the season with a 2-0 league record, 2nd place in the Union Pacific League and are 16th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Burlington lost to Yuma and Simla 0-3 to start October but has won their last game over Wray 3-1. Burlington will participate in the Stratton Tourney this weekend and will look for success as they move into next week. The Cougars will start off next weeks’ play against Idalia on 10/14.
