
Class 2A Volleyball Weekly Review and Preview

As we enter the last few weeks of the regular season, we switch things up and look at teams 28-40, who are all around the playoff bubble. Most of these teams are in right now, but a few will need to fight until the end and hope some other teams stumble.

Caprock Academy
Currently sitting at 28 in the CHSAA Seeding Index, Caprock Academy has an 11-4 overall record with a 5-2 league record and are sitting 4th in the Western Slope league. In there most recent games, the Eagles were able to beat Grand Valley for the second time, 3-2, and got the win over league opponent Hayden 3-0. To wrap up the regular season, Caprock Academy will play De Beque on 10/17, Meeker on 10/18, De Beque on the road on 10/29, and West Grand to end the season on 11/1. The team will look to get as many wins as possible to stay in the playoff bubble.
Stat leaders for the Eagles are Alaina Scripps with 24 total blocks, Kyla Hardy with 22 total blocks, Zoey Polson with 20 total blocks, 16 serving aces, 62 sigs, 109 assists, and 85 kill, Taylor Phillips with 33 serving aces, 210 digs, 20 assists, 133 kills and 254 receptions, Ali Guffey with 25 serving aces, Katie Repshire with 126 digs and 241 receptions, Rachel Bogan with 66 kills and Anna Caldwell with 117 receptions.
Byers
The Bulldogs have a 7-10 overall record, a 2-3 league record, are 5th in the Union Pacific league and are 29th in the seeding index. In the last week of play, Byers has lost three games, falling to Flatirons Academy, Yuma, and Stratton all 0-3. Byers will be looking for a bounce back and will try to get as many wins as possible to remain inside of the playoff bubble. These teams will be Holyoke tonight, Peyton o n10/21, Limon on 10/23 and then Limon, Fowler and Sargent on 11/1.
Leading the Bulldogs stat board this season are Ainsley Sauer with 19 total blocks, Taiya Eymann with 17 total blocks, Karley Linnebur with 15 total blocks, 42 serving aces, 165 digs, 10 assists, and 174 kills, Leyla Sayler with 32 serving aces, 136 digs, and 331 assists, Joclynn Rector with 20 serving aces, 150 digs, 125 kills and 244 receptions, Abi Green with 24 assists, 60 kills and 249 receptions, and Jenah Besquette with 261 receptions.
Wray
The Eagles have only played two games since the start of October and lost them both, falling to Holyoke and Burlington 1-3. The team is now 6-12 overall on the season with a 1-3 league record and are currently 8th in the Lower Platte League and sitting at 30 in the seeding Index. To wrap up the season, Wray will play Brush on 10/18, Akron on 10/21, Yuma on 10/24, Caliche on 10/28 and Wiggins on 10/30. The team will be looking to win as many of these games as they can so they can guarantee their spot in the playoffs.
Leading Wray on the stat board are Mariah DeLand with 26 total blocks, 40 serving aces, and 132 kills, Ansley DePue with 21 total blocks, Brylee Meisner with 17 total blocks, Kyla Kramer with 26 serving aces, 148 digs, 100 kills and 236 receptions, Gracee Linman with 17 serving aces and 116 assists, Jaycie Snapp with 265 digs, 29 assists, and 330 receptions, Emerson Rockwell with 134 digs and 244 assists, Katie Harms with 154 kills and Karissa Peterson with 134 receptions.
Swallows Charter Academy
The Spartans currently have a 12-5 overall record, a 4-4 league record, are 5th in the Santa Fe League and are 31 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. SCA lost to Swink 1-3 but was able to come back the next day and get win over Peyton 3-2. SCA will be looking to wrap up their regular season with more wins on their record to make sure they get into the playoffs. The Spartans will face Pueblo South on 10/22, Rocky Ford on 10/23, Rye on 10/28 and then will wrap up with a tournament on 11/1 where they will start off against Las Animas.
Stat leaders for the team are Keira Grahan with 39 total blocks, 24 serving aces, 185 digs, 75 kills and 197 receptions, Emma Storm with 26 total blocks and 7 assists, Sydnee Borden with 10 total blocks, 66 serving aces, 166 assists, and 68 kills, Taylor Bond with 30 serving aces, 154 digs, 169 kills and 134 receptions, Grace Ochs with 156 digs and 154 assists, and Riley James with 115 receptions.
Haxtun
Haxtun currently sits at the 32 spot in the seeding index with a 5-13 overall record, a 0-7 league record and are in 9th in the Lower Platte League. The Bulldogs are currently on a 5 game losing streak, falling to9 Merino 0-3, and Weldon Valley, Yuma, Akron and Prairie all 1-3. The team will be looking to break this streak and end their regular season with some wins. To wrap up regular season play, the team will face Kimball tonight, Hi-Plains on 10/17, Idalia on 10/21, SCA on 10/25, and Sedgwick County on 10/31.
SkyView Academy
The Hawks sit at 33 in the seeding index with an 11-8 overall record, a 3-6 league record and in 9th in the Mile High League. SkyView Academy lost their most recent game against Heritage Christian 1-3 and will be looking to bounce back and get as many wins as possible in their last four games. These games will be against Sheridan on 10/21, Estes Park on 10/23, Front Range Christian on 10/27, and Lyons on 10/29.
Stat leaders for the Hawks are Evelyn Gilbert with 58 total blocks and 121 kills, Mei Li Scholl with 28 total blocks, 52 serving aces, 155 digs, 9 assists, 182 kills and 293 receptions, Emma Francavilla with 12 total blocks, Ellie McLaughlin with 44 serving aces and 64 kills, Kaylyn Belowski with 30 serving aces, 136 digs, and 120 receptions, Taylor Bales with 283 digs, 16 assists, and 262 receptions, and Lyla Kostiuk with 366 assists.
Fountain Valley
The Danes are currently 8-6 on the season with a 2-2 league record and are 4th in the Black Forest League. Fountain Valley was able to get the win on TCSS 3-0 but fell to Simla 0-3. The team is now sitting at 34 in the seeding index, and will need to win as many games as possible so they can ensure they remain in the playoff bubble. To end the season, the team will face Peyton tonight, ACA on 10/17, Cripple Creek-Victor on 10/18, Thomas MacLaren School on 10/23, ECA on 10/28 and Miami-Yoder on 10/30.
Leading Fountain Valley on the stat board are Tenzin Choedon with 33 total blocks, 26 serving aces, and 35 kills, Evelyn Brown with 16 total blocks, Keira Llewelyn with 13 total blocks, 141 digs, 62 kills and 182 receptions, Ainsley Joseph with 44 serving aces, 288 digs, 12 assists and 302 receptions, Olivia Nunez-Alley with 29 serving aces, 118 assists, and 31 kills, Asha Lawal with 149 digs and 124 receptions, and Kylin McKessy with 105 assists.
Crested Butte
Crested Butte remains in the playoff bubble for now as the second to last team in at 35 in the seeding index. The Titans currently have an 8-9 overall record, a 1-3 league record and are 5th in the Southern Peaks league. The team is on a four game losing streak, falling most recently to Custer County 1-3 and Del Norte 0-1. Crested Butte does not have an easy schedule to end the regular season but will be looking to get as many wins as they can to stay in playoff contention. These teams will be Sanford on 10/24, Dolores on 10.14m Trinidad on 10/25, Gunnison on 10/28 and Ouray on 11/1.
Crested Butte stat leaders are Hailey Huresky with 26 total blocks, 21 serving aces, 127 digs, 98 kills and 211 receptions, Maryn Prichett with 9 total blocks and 18 serving aces, Haley Roberts with 6 total blocks, 73 kills and 192 receptions, Mia O’Neil with 219 digs, 280 kills and 341 receptions, Mylee Clifton with 228 assists, Lanaea Clifton with 138 assists, and Hayley Erkickson with 25 assists.
Thomas MacLaren School
As the last team in the playoff bubble currently at 36, Thomas MacLaren is 9-5 overall on the season with a 2-2 league record and are 5th in the Black Forest League. The Highlands lost recently against Pikes Peak Christian 2-3 but was able to come back and get the win over Atlas Preparatory School 3-0. The team will need to get as many wins as they can to finish the regular season to stay inside of the playoff bubble. The teams remaining schedule is Miami-Yoder on 10/21, Fountain Valley on 10/23, Tournament play including games with Banning Lewis and Eagle Ridge Academy on 10/25, TCSS on 10/28, and Manitou Springs on 10/30.
Leading the stat board for the Highlanders are Sara Christensen with 27 total blocks, 28 serving aces, 112 digs, 17 assists, 116 kills and 161 receptions, Peyton Mulder with 15 total blocks, 121 digs, 70 kills and 198 receptions, Evelyn Divine with 6 total blocks, 22 serving aces, and 154 assists, Abby Hassell with 97 digs, 53 kills and 181 receptions, and Jane Ambuul with 123 assists.
Front Range Christen
The Falcons currently have an 8-11 overall record, a 5-5 league record, are 6th in the Mile High League and are sitting just outside of the playoff bubble at 37 in the seeding index. In October, the team has lost to Flatirons Academy 0-3 but beat Dawson School 3-0. Front Range Christian will need to wins as many of their last three games to try to make it into the playoffs. These teams will be Denver Christian on 10/21, Heritage Christian on 10/24, and SkyView Academy on 10/27.

Calhan
Calhan currently has an 8-10 overall record, a 3-2 league record, are 2nd in the Black Forest league and are 38 in the seeding index, just outside of the playoff cutoff. The Bulldogs are 2-1 in October, beating Liberty Tree Academy and Limon 3-0 but falling to Custer County 1-3. Calhan will need to win as many of their remaining games as they can and will hope for some other teams to slip so they can make it to the playoffs. Their remaining schedule is Peyton on 10/17, Monument Academy on 10/21, Crowley County on 11/1 and Kim/Branson on 11/1.
Stat leaders for the Bulldogs are Kaitlyn Gettner with 27 total blocks and 46 receptions, Irelyn Vandergriff with 6 total blocks and13 serving aces, Aubrie Waugh with 2 total blocks, 41 digs, 76 assists, and 26 kills, Kenidee Stewart with 8 serving aces, 34 kills and 49 receptions, Savannah Stewart with 7 serving aces, 41 digs, 38 kills and 83 receptions, and Elysa Kelly with 38 digs and 7 assists.
Soroco
Soroco sits at 39 in the seeding index with an 8-7 overall record, a 4-4 league record and are 5th in the Western Slope League. The team has lost in October to Vail Christian and West Grand 1-3 but was able to get the win over Vail Mountain 3-0. The Rams will be looking to add more wins to their record and will try to squeeze into the playoffs before the end of the regular season. Their schedule will be Hayden on 10/17, De Bequw on 10/24, Basalt on 10/25 and Plateau Valley on 10/31.

Mancos
The Bluejays currently sit at 40 in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 7-10 overall record, a 4-5 league record and in 5th in the San Juan Basin. The team is on a three game losing streak, falling to Dolores 0-3, Telluride 1-3, and Ignacio 0-3. Mancos will need to win as many of their final games as they can if they hope to sneak into the playoffs this season. Their remaining games will be against Sargent on 10/16, Sanford opn 10/17, Telluride on 10/21, Ridgway on 10/25 and Ouray on 10/30.
