Class 2A Football Playoff Projections & Bubble Watch Week 9

This year to reach the playoffs is simple. Either win your league title or be inside the top 16 of the CHSAA Seeding Index. After they select the 16 teams that make the playoffs, they use the CHSAA Seeding Index to seed the playoffs. This week I will be giving my predictions on who makes the playoffs, but I will also look at if the season ended today who would make the playoffs at the end. We will update this weekly. Also at the end I will look if we used just the MaxPreps Rankings which will be how they will select and Seed the Teams next year!

Class 2A Playoff Predictions (Who I think make the playoffs)

This is who I think make the playoffs and who win the leagues. In Class 2A all-league champions are guaranteed a berth. The rest will be selected by CHSAA Seeding Index. Seeding is determined by CHSAA Seeding Index. I am picking my 9 At-Large teams via non-league schedules, remaining schedules, and how I think teams will do. Expect changes week to week especially making these projections/predictions so early. League Champions are posted first then the At-Large Teams.

Playoff Hunt for Final Spots

University, Coal Ridge, Pagosa Springs, Weld Central, Sterling, D’Evelyn, Aspen

The race for the final few playoffs’ spots will be a good one. If you are inside the top 11 of the CHSAA Seeding Index I feel comfortable to say you are a lock for the playoffs unless there is a huge upset. #12 thru #20 I believe are still on the bubble and it should be one heck of a race for those teams. We will go thru each teams remaining schedule and talk about what they need to do.

Remaining Schedules

Alamosa: Salida & Pagosa Springs (Win out and they are league champions; I am not sure if Alamosa can lose to Pagosa Springs in the final week and still get in. Especially with their lose to Delta and Delta sitting at #15.)

University: Berthoud & Resurrection Christian (Winner of Berthoud vs University keeps playoff hopes alive loser will be on the outside looking in. With that said it’s not a guarantee that the winner gets in with both teams playing tough schedules.)

Lamar: Banning Lewis & Florence (Lamar must beat Banning Lewis, that is the #1 priority. Then we will see how things look next week number wise. A loss to Florence could put Lamar on the chopping block)

Delta: Moffat County & Coal Ridge (Win out, I don’t think Delta can get into the playoffs without winning out. Especially since Coal Ridge sits at #18.)

Englewood: Elizabeth & Platte Canyon (Win out and they would probably get in. I am worried if Englewood loses to Elizabeth they will be on the outside looking in. Not sure If a win over Platte Canyon will help them much in the final week.)

Basalt: Aspen (Win and they are league champions or if Aspen loses this week to Coal Ridge, Basalt wins the league title and automatically get a berth into the playoffs)

Coal Ridge: Aspen & Delta (Win out, I don’t think Coal Ridge can get in without winning out.)

Weld Central: Brush & Sterling (A win over Brush gives them the inside track for the league title. I do not think Weld Central can get into the playoffs by losing to Brush and defeating Sterling. But we will have to see what the numbers look like.)

Berthoud: University & Eaton (As mentioned above winner of University & Berthoud keep their hopes alive for the playoffs with the lose more than likely on the outside looking in.)

Montezuma-Cortez & Pagosa Springs: Need a league title to get into the playoffs and both are still in the hunt. They face each other this week. If Pagosa Springs wins they face Alamosa for the league title next week. If Montezuma-Cortez wins they would need Pagosa Springs to upset Alamosa and force a tie for the league title.

This is if the season ended today 10/23/2024. Using the CHSAA Seeding Index I will come up with the Playoff field. League Champions selected with my Predictions. I will seed & select the bracket with the CHSAA Seeding Index. Remember this is still very early and things will change. The league champions I selected are at the top with the at-large berths following.
