Rye dropped to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in league play with a 48 to 7 loss to Buena Vista last week.  Rye will look to bounce back this week and get the offense going.  QB Brady Baumgartner will look to get back going after throwing for just 28 yards and 2 INTs.  RB Jackson Bjorum will look to build off the success he had last week.  Bjorum rushed for 104 yards and a TD.  Defensively Rye will look to make the biggest adjustments after giving up over 40 points.  Look for Beau Hicks (8 tackles), Elijah Vallejos (7 tackles), and Jackson Bjorum (5 tackles) to lead the Thunderbolt defense this week.

Series history… C.S Christian leads the series 8-2 over Rye, since 2004

Playoff Implications…Both teams are currently in the top 10.  I believe both teams make the playoffs but a chance to host will be on the line this week.

#12 Flatirons Academy (4-3) at #18 Denver Christian (3-4), Fridy at 6pm

Last Week… Flatirons Academy improved to 4-3 on the season and 1-1 in league play with a 28 to 0 win over Platte Canyon.  Offensively it was the rushing attack that powered the way for the Bison last week racking up over 185 yards on the ground.  RB Zeke Friedman led all rushers with 85 yards and a TD.  QB Caleb Doughty led the passing attack with 82 yards and a TD while rushing for another 85 yards and 2 TDs.  Defensively Ryker Clubb led the Bison defense with 10 tackles while Luis Mandl (9 tackles) and Isaiah Figueroa (8 tackles) also pitched in to help get the shutout win.

Last Year…Flatirons Academy defeated Denver Christian 34 to 6.

Series history… Flatirons Academy leads the series 3-2 over Denver Christian, since 2004

Playoff Implications…For Denver Christian they are needing to win one of their final two games against Flatirons Academy or Forge Christian to get into the playoffs.  For Flatirons Academy they are on the bubble at #12 so a win should lock them in barring an upset in the final week of the season.

#16 Holyoke (3-4) at #19 Wiggins (1-6), Fridy at 7pm

Last Week… Holyoke improved to 3-4 on the season and 1-2 in league play with a 32 to 21 win over Yuma.  This was a key win for Holyoke and greatly improved their chances at the playoffs.  Holyoke turned to their passing attack last week.  QB Colby Weber had a huge day passing for 345 yards and 3 TDs while adding another 93 yards rushing and 3 rushing TDs.  WR Elbin Padilla led all WRs catching 8 passes for 171 yards and 2 TDs and WR Dathyn Dirks pitched in another 91 yards.  Defensively Holyoke bent but did not break holding Yuma to just 21 points.  Holyoke was led on defense by Colby Weber (13 tackles), Gustavo Goytia (11 tackles), and Elbin Padilla (11 tackles).

Wiggins dropped to 1-6 on the season and 0-3 in league play with a 28-0 loss to Burlington.  Wiggins could not get much going offensively and they will bounce back this week.  RB Owen Erker (35 yards rushing) and RB Juan Hernandez (35 yards rushing) are two player to keep an eye on and also QB Brock Forsha.  Defensively Wiggins did limit Burlington holding them to just 28 points.  Mark Walker (14 tackles & 5 TFL) and Michael Adamson (13 tackles) powered the Tigers defense.

Last Year…Wiggins defeated Holyoke 28 to 14.

Series history… Holyoke leads the series over Wiggins 11 to 9, since 2004

Playoff Implications…Holyoke currently would be the last team into the playoffs, and this is a must win for Holyoke, a loss and I am not sure Holyoke can get in.  Wiggins is at #19 and also is a must win for Wiggins a loss for Wiggins and they will be eliminated from playoff contention barring an upset in the final game.

#1 Buena Vista vs #22 Peyton (3-4), Friday at 7pm

Last Week… Buena Vista improved to 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in league with a 48 to 7 win over Rye.  Buena Vista leaned on their rushing attack which racked up 193 yards while the passing attack had 93 yards.  RB Eli Schuknecht led all rushers with 100 yards and 1 TD while RB Casen Pridemore pitched in with 62 yards and a TD.  QB Hudson Wingo also pitched in offensively with 93 yards and a TD.  We also had a punt return for a TD by Caleb Pierce.  Defensively Buena Vista flew around holding Rye to just 125 yards of total offense.  Abel Flowers (9 tackles) and Casen Pridemore (7 tackles & 2 TFL) led the Demon defense.

Peyton dropped to 3-4 on the season and 0-2 in league play with a 37 to 0 loss to C.S Christian last week.  Peyton will look to bounce back offense after being shutout.  Peyton will look for Josiah Zimmerman (28 yards rushing), Lorenzo Arguello (28 yards rushing), and QB Mickey Winter to have a bounce back game this week.  Defensively Peyton will look for Liam Mcinroy (8 tackles) and Cam Steele (7 tackles) to step up and lead the defense against the #1 team.

Last Year…Buena Vista defeated Peyton 33 to 7.

Series history… Buena Vista leads the series 6-2 over Peyton, since 2004

Playoff Implications…Buena Vista is looking to keep the #1 overall seed and win the league title.  This game is necessary for both.  Peyton needs a signature win and upsetting the #1 team could do that and get them right back in the mix for the playoffs.

#6 Wray (4-3) vs #14 Yuma (4-3), Friday at 7pm

Last Week… Wray dropped to 4-3 on the season and 2-1 in league play with a 28 to 7 loss to Limon.  Offensively Wray did find some success with QB Austin Collins passing for 89 yards and a TD while rushing for 82 yards.  RB Bryson Lewis (11 yards) and WR Aaron Tena (30 yards rushing & 34 yards receiving) will look to break out this week against Rival Yuma.  Defensively Wray will look to adjust against the run.  Brody Stults (9 tackles), Austin Collins (7 tackles), and Brodie Riggelman (7 tackles) will look to power the Eagles Defense.

Yuma dropped to 4-3 on the season and 1-2 in league play with a 32 to 21 loss to Holyoke.  Yuma had success offensively but couldn’t complete the comeback.  QB Iann Duran had another solid day passing for 109 yards while rushing for 143 yards and 2 TDs.  WR Reyli Trejo was the top target catching 5 passes for 57 yards.  RB Marvin Duarte and RB Christian Thomson will both look to bounce back this week.  Defensively Yuma did give up over 300 yards through the air but look for them to look to stop the run this week.  Marvin Duarte (8 tackles) and Jose Mario Ross (7 tackles) will look to lead the Outlaw defense.

Last Year…Wray defeated Yuma 44 to 0 last year.

Series history… Wray leads the series 17-4 over Yuma, since 2004

Playoff Implications…Wray is still in the top 8 which would mean they host.  A win over Yuma probably solidifies them as a team that will host a first-round game. A loss could see Wray not host a first-round game.  Yuma is at #14 and is on the bubble they have a very tough schedule to end the year and a win in either of their final two games locks them into the playoffs.  A loss in both and they will be watching to see what happens around them.

#10 Meeker (5-2) at #23 Olathe (4-2), Friday at 7pm

Last Week…Meeker improved to 5-2 on the season and 2-0 in league play with a 46 to 34 win over North Fork.  Meeker can win the league title with a win over Olathe this week.  Last week it was mostly the rushing attack that powered the way racking up 326 yards of rushing and adding 84 yards through the air.  RB Tristin Rollins led all rushers with 139 yards and a TD while RB Said Rodriguez pitched in with another 86 yards and a TD.  QB Cade Mills also pitched in offensively with 84 yards passing, 74 yards rushing, and 4 Total TDs.  Defensively Meeker did give up some rushing yards (over 300) but were able to make key stands defensively.  Joseph Halstead (8 tackles), Jonah Christenson (7 tackles), and Tucker Chinn (6 tackles) led the way for the Cowboy Defense.

Last Year…Meeker defeated Olathe 40 to 6 last season and they already faced each other once this year with Meeker winning that 51 to 8.

Series history… Meeker leads the series 10-4 over Olathe, since 2004.

Playoff Implications…Meeker can win the league title with a win over Olathe and can keep their hopes alive to host if they can win out.  Olathe needs an upset win to get into the conversation for a playoff berth.

#11 Monte Vista (5-2) vs #27 Ignacio (2-5), Friday at 6pm

Last Week…Monte Vista improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in league play with a 41-0 win over Trinidad.  Monte Vista used their rushing attack to get the win rushing for 234 yards and passing for 53 yards.  RB Kelby Mondragon led all rushers with 74 yards, while RB Jon Enderle (43 yards & 3 TDs) and RB Judah Howe (42 yards & 1 TD) pitched in to get the win.  QB Manny Jiron also contributed with 53 yards passing, 48 yards rushing, and 1 rushing TD.  Defensively Monte Vista held Trinidad to 89 yards of total offense and forced 3 turnovers in the win.  Chayse Bouet (11 tackles), Nehe Sandoval (8 tackles), and Jon Enderle (8 tackles & 2 Fumble Recoveries) led the Pirate defense.

Last Year…Monte Vista defeated Ignacio 32 to 8.

Series history…Monte Vista leads the series 17-1 over Ignacio, since 2004

Playoff Implications…Monte Vista needs the win to stay in the top 16 and keep their hopes alive for a hosting spot.  A loss would hurt Monte Vista hopes of the playoffs.  Ignacio sits at #27 but a win over a top 12 team would shoot them up the rankings.
