Class 3A Volleyball Weekly Review and Preview

For this week’s review and preview, we take a look at the top 10 teams in 3A as well as the bottom 6 teams who still currently remain in the playoff bubble according to the CHSAA Seeding Index. There are only about 10 days left in the regular season, so each team will be looking to maintain their positions for guaranteed hosting spots, or for just a spot in the playoffs.

Alamosa

Alamosa is currently on an 18-game win streak with a 21-1 overall record, an 8-0 league record, they are 1st in the Intermountain League and 1st in the CHSAA Seeding Index. In the last week of play, the Mean Moose got wind over Wiggins and Severance 2-0, Merino 2-1, and Lamar 2-0. The team only has one game left in the regular season which will be against Fowler on 10/30 and then Alamosa will be entering the postseason and chasing the state title.

Eaton

Eaton has a 17-1 overall record, an 11-0 league record, are 1st in the Patriot league and 2nd in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Reds are on a 17-game winning streak, having lost their very first game of the season and then winning each game since. Recent wins for Eaton include over Platte Valley 3-1 and Resurrection Christian 3-1. To wrap up the regular season, Eaton will play Brush on 10/28 and then the will participate in the Cheyenne Mountain Tournament where their first opponent will be Rampart on 10/31.

Resurrection Christian

The Cougars were on a 17-game winning streak, having been undefeated until they played Eaton where they lost 1-3. The team’s last win was against Brush the game before where they got that win 3-0. Resurrection Christian now has a 17-1 overall record, a 10-1 league record, are 2nd in the Patriot League and 3rd in the CHSAA Seeding Index. To end the regular season, the Cougars will play Windsor Charter Academy on 10/28, and then will play tournament play on 10/31 and 11/1 where their first opponent will be Mead.

Forge Christian

Forge Christian has an 18-3 overall record, an 8-1 league record, are 1st in the Metro league and 4th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. In the last week of play, the Fury beat Aspen 3-1, St. Mary’s Academy 3-0, and Eagle Ridge Academy 3-0, moving their win streak to 11 in a row. The team will be looking to add a couple more wins to their record to end the regular season to stay in the top five of the seeding index. These games will be against Prospect Ridge Academy on 10/28 and Timnath on 11/1.

Bayfield

The Wolverines round out the top 5 of the seeding index with a 13-5 overall record, a 5-2 league record, and they are 2nd in the Intermountain League. In the last week of play, Bayfield got a big win over league opponent Centauri to get 2nd place in league 3-0 and then beat Durango 3-1. The team is on a 5-game winning streak and will look to add more wins to their record and will finish out the regular season against Pagosa Springs on 10/28 and then they will play in the Colorado Invite beginning against Doherty on 10/31.

Stargate School

The Eagles are currently 19-2 overall on the season with a 7-1 league record, are 2nd in the Metro League and 6th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The last two games for the team resulted in wins over Jefferson Academy 3-0 and St. Mary’s Academy 3-1 to bring their win streak to 3 in a row. To finish up the regular season, Stargate School will play Peak to Peak on 10/28 and Prospect Ridge Academy on 10/30.

Sterling

Sterling has a 16-6 overall record, a 7-3 league record, are 4th in the Patriot league, 7th in the CHSAA Seeding Index and are on a 6 game winning streak. The last six wins for the team all came in the last week of play, getting wins over Merino, Severance, Centauri and Wiggins 2-0, and Prairie and Windsor Charter Academy 3-0. The Tigers will be looking to get a win on their last game of the regular season which will be against Valley on 10/28 before they go into the postseason.

Centauri

The Falcons are15-8 overall on the season, 4-4 in league play, 3rd in the Intermountain League and 8th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. In the last week of play, Centauri played and beat Severance 2-1, lost to Wiggins 0-2, beat Lamar 2-1, fell to Sterling 0-2 and beat Pagosa Springs 3-1. This wrapped up the regular season for Centauri, now they will wait and see if they hold their spot in the seeding index, or if the teams around them cause them to move.

Aspen

Aspen is currently 17-5 overall on the season with a 7-1 league record, are 2nd in the Western Slope League and 9th in the CHSAA Seeding Index.  In their most recent games, the Skiers lost to Forge Christian 1-3 but was able to beat Roaring Fork and Basalt 3-0. To end the regular season, Aspen will travel to Moffat County on 11/1 where they will be looking to get a win and hold their position in the rankings.

Gunnison

Gunnison is 12-5 overall on the season currently with an 8-0 league record, are 1st in the Western Slope league, and hold the 10th place spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The last game the Cowboys played was against Basalt where Gunnison got the win 3-0. The team has several games left to end the regular season which will be against Moffat County on 10/25, Crested Butte on 10/28, Meeker and Salida on 10/31 and Telluride and Del Norte on 11/1. The Cowboys will be looking to win as many of these games as they can to stay in the top 10 of the seeding index.

DSST: Conservatory Green

Currently sitting at 31 in the CHSAA Seeding Index, the Hornets have an 11-10 overall record, a 9-0 league record, and are 1st in the City League. The last four games for DDST: Conservatory Green were split, with the team beating DSST: Montview 3-0 and DSST: College View 3-2 but falling to The Vanguard School 1-3 and Northfield 0-3. To round out the regular season, the Hornets will play KIPP Denver Collegiate where they will be looking to a win so they don’t fall in the seeding index.

Kent Denver

The Sun Devils went 1-2 during the last week of play, losing to Chatfield and Prospect Ridge Academy 0-3 but beating CSCHS 3-2. Kent Denver is now 10-11 overall on the season, 2-7 in league play, 10th in the Metro league and 32 in the seeding index. With only a couple of games left, the team will be looking to finish out with wins to make sure they remain solid in the playoff bubble. These games will be against Bennett on 10/28 and Denver Christian on 10/30.

The Academy

The Wildcats are currently 33 in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 6-12 overall record, a 2-6 league record and are 8th in the Metro League. The Academy lost to St. Mary’s Academy 2-3 last week but was able to bounce back and get the win over Jefferson Academy 3-1. The Academy will be looking to get more wins to their record to end the regular season to ensure they do not fall in the seeding index. These games will be against Eagle Ridge Academy on 10/24, Denver Christian on 10/28, and tournament play on 11/1.

Valley

Valley is currently 7-11 overall on the season with a 4-7 league record, are 8th in the Patriot league and 34 in the seeding index. Valley lost this week to Brush 1-3 but was able to bounce back and get the win over Strasburg 3-1. To wrap up the regular season, the Vikings will be looking to get as many wins under their belts as possible to ensure their playoff spot. These games will be against Sterling on 10/28, Coal Rudge and Delta on 10/31, and Battle Mountain on 11/1.

Estes Park

The Bobcats are 11-11 overall on the season, 5-6 in league play, 7th in the Mile High League and 35 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Estes Park lost their last two games, falling to Lyons 0-3 and SkyView Academy 1-3. The team will be looking to not end their regular season on a loss and will try to get a win over Gilpin County on 10/30 to make sure they stay in the playoff bubble and to potentially go into the playoffs on a win instead of a loss.

DSST: College View

The Wolves currently are the last team in the playoffs as the 36 seed in the CHSAA Seeding Index. DSST: College View is 11-10 overall on the season, 7-2 in league play, and are 2nd in the City League. During the last week of play, the Wolves fell to DSST: Conservatory Green 2-3 and beat DSST: Green Valley Ranch 3-2. To end the regular season the team will be looking to get their last win to make sure they stay in the playoff bubble and make it to the postseason. This game will be against Rangeview on 10/24.
