
CLASS 1A VOLLEYBALL REPORT – THURSDAY

Just three days remain in the regular season for Class 1A, and the jockeying for postseason seeding is reaching a fevered pitch. Five of the teams currently in position to host a regional will be in action on Thursday night, with two of them squaring off against each other. All rankings are from the most recent release of the CHSAA Selection and Seeding Index.

#1 MERINO (19-2) AT #10 PRAIRIE (16-5)
For the second time this season, Merino got a win over #3 Fleming on Tuesday, as the Lady Rams won 25-15, 25-22, and 25-23. Jade Powell hammered 22 kills, and Delaney Piel added 14. Powell also tallied six total blocks. Kya Piel led the Lady Rams with 25 digs, and Delaney Piel notched 24. Prairie snapped a small two-match skid, beating Weldon Valley in three sets on Tuesday. Hannah Kugler put down 15 kills for the Lady Mustangs, and Tanna Bailey tacked on 10. Nicole Ludgate racked up 33 assists and five aces.
#2 MCCLAVE (18-2) AT 2A #23 DEL NORTE (9-8)
The Lady Cards picked up their sixth straight win, beating Holly in three sets last Friday. They allowed a total of 22 points in the win. Abrielle Gomez led the hit parade with a dozen kills, and Avery Hemphill tallied 10. Ashlynn Steinbrunn aided the cause with seven aces, and Gomez was one block away from a double-double. Del Norte fell for the third match in a row, dropping a sweep at the hands of Hoehne.
#4 FLATIRONS ACADEMY (21-1) AT 2A #19 HERITAGE CHRISTIAN (16-6)
The winning streak of Flatirons Academy reached double digits, their second such streak this season, with a sweep of Belleview Christian on Tuesday. Brylin Gomer had a match-high 11 kills for the Lady Bison, and Everly Haynes added eight. Flatirons served 16 aces, six by Claire Friedman. Heritage Christian had its three-match winning streak snapped on Tuesday by Sedgwick County, as the Lady Eagles fell in four sets. Annabelle Loucks led Heritage Christian with 18 kills, and Kristin Osborne racked up 30 assists.
#6 GRANADA (19-2) VS #46 BETHUNE (7-11)
One of the longest current winning streaks in the classification belongs to Granada, who earned its eighth straight win last Thursday. The Lady Bobcats swept #21 Genoa-Hugo/Karval, making it seven sweeps during the streak. Camryn Coleman led everyone with 13 kills, and she was one of four Lady Bobcats in double figure digs with 12. Dayzriana Quintana led with 14, while Kinsley Williams and Emersen Hernandez both added 11. This is the second straight match for Bethune against another squad of Lady Bobcats, after beating Manzanola in three last Saturday. That was the third win in a row for them.
#7 SARGENT (18-1) VS 2A #12 IGNACIO (18-4)
Sargent pushed its winning streak to eight by sweeping Peyton last Saturday. The last five of those wins have all been 3-0 decisions. The Lady Farmers controlled the match, winning 25-13/9/15. Ignacio had its eight-match winning streak broken by Dolores on Tuesday, with the Lady Bobcats dropping the contest in a sweep. Alleah Neil paced Ignacio with 10 kills.
