
SIX-MAN FOOTBALL REPORT – WEEK TEN

With the teams for the postseason field all locked in, this final week of the regular season in six-man will help sort out the final seeding. The final data for the CHSAA Selection and Seeding Index will be collected on Sunday and the bracket will be released on Monday.

THURSDAY
#9 GRANADA (5-3) VS #23 BETHUNE (4-5)
Last week… Granada had a bye following its 52-0 loss to Cheyenne Wells in week eight. The Bobcats gave up six rushing touchdowns in the loss, and they lost a pair of fumbles on offense. Bethune rolled to a second straight win, beating Manzanola 72-9 behind 200 yards and four touchdowns on the ground by Ismael Perla. Angel Milan added 129 yards and two touchdowns in the running attack. Perla secured two fumble recoveries, returning one for a TD.
Series history… This is the first meeting between the two programs.
FRIDAY
#2 STRATTON (7-2) AT #10 WALSH (5-4)
Last week… Stratton’s defense picked off three passes and recovered a fumble in a 52-8 win at Prairie. That unit also held the Mustangs to just 35 rushing yards. Hudson Gourley had another big night throwing the ball for Walsh, as the sophomore put up 267 yards and four TD in a 63-18 win over Cheraw. Samuel Wright caught four passes for 127 yards and one touchdown, and also ran for two more scores. Gage Caddick snagged two TD receptions. Gourley picked off a pair of passes, and had a punt return for a TD.
Series history… Stratton leads 3-0 in six-man, including a 64-20 win last year. It led 50-0 at the half. Von Isenbart had two touchdown passes for Stratton, while S. Wright, Woodrow Wright, and Grady Mundell each had a rushing TD for Walsh.
#15 PRAIRIE (4-5) AT #21 KIOWA (4-5)
Last week… Prairie’s lone score in its 52-8 loss to Stratton came on a 68-yard pass from Liam Bringelson to Derek Dollerschell. Tatum Bailey had 14 tackles and a fumble recovery, and Brennan Bringelson also registered 14 tackles. Two interceptions helped Kiowa move past Deer Trail, 60-47. The Indians allowed 279 yards through the air, but held the Eagles to 64 on the ground.
Series history… Prairie leads 1-0 after winning last year’s meeting 57-6. Dollerschell had an interception for the Mustangs in the victory, while John White led Kiowa with a dozen tackles.
NOTE:
#1 IDALIA (10-0) was slated to play Miami-Yoder, but the Buffs surrendered a forfeit to the Wolves.
SATURDAY
#3 CHEYENNE WELLS (7-1) VS #11 BRANSON/KIM (6-2)
Last week… In a match-up of division winners, Cheyenne Wells handed Hanover a 75-6 defeat. Trey Scheler had four total touchdowns, three rushing and one receiving, while Trevin Smith had two on the ground. Mason Marriott tossed a pair of scoring passes. Kooper Brossman scored on a fumble recovery. Branson/Kim secured second place in the Southwest with a 73-13 rout of Primero. Will Doherty threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more, and Mason Riddle scored two rushing touchdowns and caught one from Doherty. Acoya Bartlett and Blake Olguin both had an interception to their credit.
Series history… Cheyenne Wells leads 4-0, with the Tigers winning 58-8 last season. They led 50-0 at the half. Scheler, Brossman, and Kelby Leonard had a rushing TD apiece, and Corey Hill caught one. Bartlett rushed for 34 of the 82 yards accumulated by the Bearcats.
#5 EADS (7-2) VS #6 OTIS (6-3)
Last week… Eads had a bye week after falling to Stratton 66-30. It gave the Eagles a chance to heal, as they have dealing with a number of key injuries. Brantley Buller threw for 153 yards and a TD in the loss, and Karsten Buller ran for two touchdowns. Otis suffered its third consecutive loss, falling at Peetz by a 37-22 count. Mitchell Stivers ran for 118 yards and a TD, while Austin Hornung threw for 128 yards and a TD. Cambric Klinzmann led the defense with 14 tackles and a 53-yard pick-six.
Series history… Otis has won two straight meetings, and four of six overall. The Bulldogs got a 69-7 win last year, with Hornung throwing three touchdown passes.
#7 CALICHE (7-2) AT #13 FLEMING (4-5)
Last week… The Buffs notched a third straight win, defeating Briggsdale 56-18. Their defense gave up 285 rushing yards, but also came up with a pair of interceptions. Fleming lost for the third time in four outings, falling 58-22 at Idalia. Idalia led 50-0 at the half. Will Mollohan tossed a 56-yard TD to Draven Oldenburg, and Conner Marchant added a rushing touchdown for the Wildcats. Jaron Monroe returned a kick-off for the remaining Fleming touchdown.
Series history… Caliche collected a 45-30 win last year in the first meeting between the two. Zachary Yost had a short rushing touchdown and a long pick-six for the Buffs, while Pierson Japp had a receiving TD from Treyson Kirkwood for the Wildcats.
#8 SIERRA GRANDE (8-1) VS #12 FLAGLER (7-2) AT HANOVER HS
Last week… Jadyn Martinez threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more in Sierra Grande’s 60-6 win over La Veta. Martinez finished with 116 yards on four carries, and the Panthers were led in the ground attack by freshman Matthew Trujillo, who went for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Rolando Najera scored on an interception return, and Martinez added a scoop-and-score. Cody Homm (167 yards, 3 TD) and JR Kountz (132 yards, 4 TD) ran for just shy of 300 yards between them, as Flagler raced past Weldon Valley, 65-26. That duo also combined for 37 tackles, 20 of them by Homm.
Series history… This is the first meeting between the two programs.
#16 HANOVER (5-4) VS #24 GENOA-HUGO/KARVAL (1-7)
Last week… Not much went right for Hanover in last week’s 75-6 loss to Cheyenne Wells, as the Hornets defense allowed just less than 300 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. The offense turned the ball over five times on a pair of interceptions and three fumbles. The Pirates trailed Wiley 24-20 at the half, but were outscored 24-7 in the second half and fell by the 48-27 score. Ryker Lockhart completed 10 of 12 passes for 121 yards and a TD, and also ran for 157 yards and three scores. Defensively, Lockhart intercepted two passes.
Series history… Genoa-Hugo/Karval leads the series 10-3, but Hanover broke an eight-game losing streak with a 58-19 win last season. The Hornets led 14-13 after one period in that contest. They piled up close to 400 rushing yards in the win. Lockhart threw for 165 yards and a TD.
