Class 2A Regional Volleyball Predictions

Here are my Predictions on who is going to win the 12 regionals taking place this weekend.  I will give a quick breakdown of why I am picking each team to win.  Full Preview of the Class 2A Regional will be posted tomorrow.

Region 1

Winner: Simla

Simla, I think got a good draw for regionals.  I do think Dayspring Christian could test them!  Also, Center reaches regionals for the first time since at least 2007.

Region 2

Winner: Denver Christian

Denver Christian has a decent draw but I do think both teams can make games competitive.  Denver Christian was tested all year in the 3A/2A Metro League.

Region 3

Winner: Dolores

Dolores had a very good season and were rewarded with the #3 seed.  I do think Wray could give them some trouble.  Wray played in the LPAA and will make things difficult for Dolores.  Custer County also had a good season and will look to challenge.

Region 4

Winner: Lyons

Lyons also had a good season, but I don’t think they got the easiest draw.  Yuma has played against the top talent in Class 1A & 2A and I think could cause some problems for Lyons.  I could see an upset in Region 4.

Region 5

Winner: Holyoke

Holyoke did not end the season the way they would like dropping some of their last few games.  Holyoke, I believe got a good draw, but I do think Meeker could provide a challenge to Holyoke.  Meeker challenged the top teams in their league and if they play to their potential could challenge the host.

Region 6

Winner: Sanford

This is one of the tougher regions in Class 2A Volleyball.  Sanford did not play well down the stretch and will look to get things going and return to the State Tournament.  Highland and Haxtun could both challenge the host team.  Highland ended the year winning 6 straight.  Haxtun played in the LPAA and proved they could beat other regional teams knocking off Dayspring Christian at the end of the year.

Region 7

Winner: Swink

Swink got a good draw for this region.  Heritage Christian is playing their best volleyball of the year knocking off 1A #4 Flatirons Academy towards the end of the year.  Swink has rebounded well since their loss to 1A Cheraw back in September, including wins over Rye & Fowler.

Region 8

Winner: Sedgwick County

Sedgwick County is a traditional State Tournament team.  Sedgwick County has been battle tested all year and ended the season with key wins over Holyoke, Heritage Christian, and Haxtun.  The biggest question mark will be Ascent Classical.  Ascent Classical played Lyons early in the year and it went 5.  Sinc that loss they have not been challenged.

Region 9

Winner: Wiggins

Wiggins is a traditional state tournament team.  They have a tough draw as they get Fowler & Byers in their region.  Both Byers and Fowler were battle tested in their league and will look to knock off Wiggins.  Wiggins I think is gearing up for another deep run.

Region 10

Winner: Buena Vista

Buena Vista is my pick in this region.  Buena Vista got a draw with teams with not a lot know about them.  Telluride played in the San Juan and finished in 3rd Place and West Grand played in the Western Slope League and finished in 5th.  Both teams have solid records and at times challenged the top contenders.  Buena Vista finished second in the Southern Peaks League.

Region 11

Winner: Ignacio

This is where I think things could be very interesting.  Rye and Hoehne are both from the Ark Valley league and are very familiar with each other.  Rye early in the year was a top 6 team in Class 2A but they suffered some tough losses to Buena Vista, Gunnison, Fowler, Pueblo East, and Swink.  Rye has the skills to pull off the upset.  Ignacio had one of their best seasons in a while.  They will look to kick their loss to Dolores to end the year but have been battle tested to handle Rye.

Region 12

Winner: Vail Christian

Vail Christian vs Burlington could be one of the best matchups in the Regional Round.  Burlington ended the year on a heater knocking off Akron, Flagler, and Holyoke.  If Burlington plays to their potential, I could see them pulling the upset.  Vail Christian cruised thru their league schedule but also played a few games to test themselves falling to Denver Christian and Aspen in the month of October.  I could see either Burlington or Vail Christian advance.
