
Class 2A Volleyball Regional Preview

This week we kick off the volleyball postseason with regionals! The top 12 seeds of the class will play host to the rest of the 36 teams, with 3 teams being in each region. The winner of each region will advance to compete in the State Tournament at the Denver Coliseum next weekend! Goodluck to all of the teams!

Region 1: 1. Simla, 24. Dayspring Christian, 36. Center
Region 1 will be hosted this year by the Simla Cubs, who finished their regular season with a 21-2 overall record, a 6-0 league record, and 1st in the Black Forest League. They will be hosting the Dayspring Christian Eagles who finished their season 12-10 overall, 9-3 in league play and ended 5th in the Mile High League and Center who wrapped up their regular season and barley got into the playoffs with a 12-10 overall record, a 2-4 league record and 5th in the Southern Peaks League. Region 1 will kick off on 11/7 at 1:00 where it will be Simla Vs Center, then game two will be Dayspring Christian Vs Center and the final game will be Simla Vs Dayspring Christian. These teams have not faced one another yet this season but the winner will advance to State Tournament at the Denver Coliseum. Simla was the only team in this region who was at the State tournament last season.
Region 2: 2. Denver Christian, 23. Monte Vista, 35. Loveland Classical
This year Region 2 will be hosted by Denver Christian who is the number 2 seed, finishing the regular season with a 19-4 overall record, a 7-3 league record and 4th in the Metro League. The Thunder will be hosting the Monte Vista Pirates who ended their regular season with a 12-9 overall record, a 3-4 league record and 4th in the Southern Peaks League, and the Loveland Classical Lions who finished their regular season with a 12-11 overall record, a 9-1 league record and in 2nd in the Foothills league. These teams have not played this season and one of these teams will be a fresh face at the state tournament as none of these teams were there last season. Games at region 2 will kick-off on 11/8 at 10:00 AM starting with Denver Christian Vs Loveland Classical, then it will be Monte Vista Vs Loveland Classical, then Denver Christian vs Monte Vista to end the afternoon.
Region 3: 3. Dolores, 22. Custer County, 34. Wray
Region 3 will be hosted at Dolores High School this year as Dolores holds the number 3 seed. Dolores wrapped up their regular season with a 22-1 overall record, an 11-1 league record, and 1st in the San Juan Basin. They will be hosting Custer County who ended their regular season 15-8 overall, 3-0 in league play and 1st in the West Central League, and Wray who is 7-16 overall on the season, 2-6 in league play and 7th in the Lower Platte league during the regular season. None of these teams have played one another this season and these teams were also not at the State Tournament last year. The games for region 3 will start on 11/8 at 10:00 AM and will be Dolores Vs Wray, Custer County Vs Wray then Dolores Vs Custer County with the winner advancing to the big dance at the Denver Coliseum.
Region 4: 4. Lyons, 21. Yuma, 33. SkyView Academy
Region 4 will start on 11/7 at 4:00 PM and will be hosted by Lyons. Lyons comes into the postseason with a 21-2 overall record, a 12-0 league record and in 1st in the Mile High League. The Lions will be hosting the Yuma Outlaws who went 10-13 overall in the regular season, with a 3-5 league record and ended in 6th in the Lower Platte league, and SkyView Academy who ended their regular season with a 14-9 overall record, a 5-7 league record and in 7th in the Mile High League. Lyons and Skyview faced off earlier in the season and Lyons was able to get the win 3-0 but none of these teams were at the State Tournament so they will all work to appear there this season. The games will start with Lyons Vs SkyView Academy, then Yuma vs SkyView Academy, then Lyons Vs Yuma.
Region 5: 1. Holyoke, 20. Meeker, 32. Swallows Charter Academy
Region 5 will take place in Holyoke this year. Number five Holyoke wrapped up their regular season with an 18-5 overall record, a 5-3 league record, 4th in the Lower Platte league and with the 5th seed. They will be hosting the Meeker Cowboys who come into the postseason with a 14-8 overall record, an 8-2 league record and 3rd in the Western Slope League and Swallows Charter Academy Spartans who ended their regular season run 16-7 overall, 4-4 in league and 5th in the Santa Fe League. Regionals will be the first time these teams play each other this season and the winner will be another new face at the state tournament this season. Games will start 11/8 at 10:00 AM and will be Holyoke Vs SCA, Meeker Vs SCA, then Holyoke Vs. Meeker.
Region 6: 1. Sanford, 19. Highland, 31. Haxtun
Sanford will be the host site for region 6 this season. Sanford ended the regular season as the 6th seed with an 18-3 overall record, a 7-0 league record and in 1st in the Southern Peaks League. The Mustangs will be host to the Highland Huskies who were 16-7 overall in the regular season with a 9-3 league record and 3rd in the Mile High League, and Haxtun who ended their regular season with an 8-15 overall record, a 0-8 league record, and 9th in the Lower Platte League. This will be the first meetup of the season for all three teams. With Sanford and Haxtun both trying to get back to the state tournament that they were both in last year, all of the teams will be trying to be the lone team to get to the Denver Coliseum. Games will start on 11/8 at 10:00 AM starting with Sanford vs Haxtun, then Highland Vs Haxtun and finally Sanford Vs Highland.
Region 7: 7. Swink, 18. Heritage Christian, 30. Del Norte
The honor of hosting region 7 this season goes to the Swink Lions who ended the regular season 19-4 overall, 8-0 in league play and 1st in the Santa Fe League. Swink has not played the two teams they will be hosting this season, who are the Heritage Christian Eagles, who ended their regular season 17-6 overall, 9-3 in league play and 4th in the Mile High League, and the Del Norte Tigers who ended their regular season 9-12 overall on the season with a 3-3 league record and 3rd in the Southern Peaks League. Heritage Christian and Del Norte also have not faced one another yet this season. Last year at the state tournament, both Del Norte and Swink were present, and each team will be trying to make a reappearance or be a fresh face this season.
Region 8: 8. Sedgwick County, 17. Ascent Classical Academy, 29. Thomas MacLaren
Region 8 will be hosted by the defending State Champions looking to get back to the big dance, the Sedgwick County Cougars. The Cougars ended their regular season with a 17-6 overall record, a 6-2 league record and 3rd in the Lower Platte League. The team will be hosting the Ascent Classical Academy Guardians who ended their regular season 21-2 overall, 10-0 in league play and 1st in the Foothills League, and the Thomas MacLaren School Highlanders who ended their regular season with a 14-8 overall record, a 3-2 league record and 3rd in the Black Forest League. These teams have not played each other this season and Sedgwick County will be looking to get back to the State Tournament while the other teams will be looking to beat them out.
Region 9: 9. Wiggins, 16. Fowler, 28. Byers
Wiggins, the 2024 State Runner-ups, will be the host of region 9 this season. The Tigers come into the postseason with a 16-7 overall record, a 7-1 league record and 2nd in the Lower Platte League. They will be hosting the Fowler Grizzlies who come into the postseason with a 14-9 overall record, a 6-2 league record and 3rd in the Santa Fe League, the Byers Bulldogs who come in with a 10-13 overall record, a 4-3 league record and 3rd in the Union Pacific League. Byers faced both Wiggins and Fowler this season, falling to 0-3 to both but Wiggins and Fowler have not played this season.
Region 10. 10. Buena Vista, 15. Telluride, 27. West Grand
Region 10 is hosted by the Buena Vista Demons who finished their regular season with a 19-4 overall record, a 5-1 league record and 2nd in the Southern Peaks League. The Demons will be hosting the Telluride Miners who are 16-6 overall, 8-4 in league play, and 3rd in the San Juan Basin and the West Grand Mustangs who are 14-7 overall, 5-5 in league play and 5th in the Western Slope League. West Grand has not faced either of these teams this season, but Buena Vista and Telluride did run into each other earlier in the year where Buena Vista got the win 3-0. None of these teams were at the State Tournament last year so the winner of this region will be a new team from last year.
Region 11. 11. Ignacio, 14. Rye, 26. Hoehne
Region 11 will be in Ignacio this year, hosted by the Bobcats. The Ignacio Bobcats ended their regular season with a 19-4 overall record, an 11-1 league record and in 2nd place in the San Juan Basin League. The team will be hosting the Rye Thunderbolts who are 17-6 overall on the season with a 7-1 leaguer record and in 2nd in the Santa Fe League, and the Hoehne Farmers who are 11-12 overall on the season, 5-3 in league play and 4th in the Santa Fe League. Rye and Hoehne faced off earlier in the season where Rye got the win 3-0. Ignacio has not played the other teams yet this season. Ignacio will be looking to beat out the teams who were at the State Tournament last year and be a new team this year.
Region 12. 12. Vail Christian, 13. Burlington, 25. Caprock Academy
The final region will be hosted this year by the Vail Christian Saints. Vail Christian went 18-4 overall, 10-0 on league and ended 1st in the Western Slope League during the regular season. The Saints will be hosting Burlington, who went 16-7 overall on the season, 5-1 in league play and ended 2nd in the Union Pacific league, and Caprock Academy who ended the regular season with a 14-5 overall record, a 7-3 league record and 4th in the Western Slope League. Vail Christian played Caprock Academy earlier in the season and beat them 3-0 but Burlington has not played Vail Christian or Caprock Academy. These teams were not at the State Tournament last year, so the winner of this region will be a new team there from last year.
