
Class 3A Volleyball Regional Preview

This week we kick off the volleyball postseason with regionals! The top 12 seeds of the class will play host to the rest of the 36 teams, with 3 teams being in each region. The winner of each region will advance to compete in the State Tournament at the Denver Coliseum next weekend! Goodluck to all of the teams!

Region 1: 1. Alamosa, 24. Salida, 36. DSST: College View: 11/7 @ 2:00 PM
Region 1 this year will be hosted by the Alamosa Mean Moose. Alamosa comes into the playoffs with a 22-1 overall record, an 8-0 league record and in 1st in the Intermountain League. To complete the region, Alamosa will be hosting Salida, who comes into the postseason with a 15-8 overall record, a 6-4 league record, and 5th in the Tri-Peaks league and the Moose will also host DSST: College View who is 12-11overall, 7-2 in league play, and 2nd in the City League. These teams have not faced off yet this season and Alamosa is the only team of the three who will be looking to make a return to the State Tournament in Denver.
Region 2: 2. Resurrection Christian, 23. Banning Lewis Academy, 35. Eagle Ridge Academy: 11/8 @11:00 AM
The hosts of region 2 this season will be the Resurrection Christian Cougars. The Cougars ended their regular season with a 21-1 overall record, an 11-1 league record, and in 2nd in the Patriot League. Resurrection Christian will be hosting Banning Lewis Academy and Eagle Ridge Academy who are 17-6 overall, 9-3 in league and 3rd in the Tri-Peaks League and 9-14 overall, 2-8 in league play and 11th in the Metro league, respectively. Banning Lewis and Eagle Ridge met up during tournament play earlier in the season where the Stallions got the win 2-0 over the Warriors. Resurrection Christian has not played the other two opponents but will be looking to beat them both and make a return back to the State Tournament.
Region 3: 3. Eaton, 22. Colorado Academy, 34. Estes Park: 11/7 @ 4:00 PM
Eaton will be the host site for region 3, with the Reds ending their regular season with a 19-4 overall record, a 12-0 league record and in 1st in the Patriot League. Eaton will be hosting Colorado Academy, who are 12-9 overall on the season, 7-3 in league play and 3rd in the Metro league, and Estes Park who are 12-11 overall, 6-6 in league play and 6th in the Mile High League. These teams have yet to play each other this season, and with a similar story to region 1 and 2, Eaton is the only team who is at the State Tournament last season and will be looking to get back this year.
Region 4: 4. Forge Christian, 21. North Fork, 33. Cedaredge: 11/8 @ 9:00 AM
The Forge Christian Fury will be the hosts for region 4 this season. The Fury enter the postseason with a 20-3 overall record, a 9-1 league record, and 1st in the Metro League. The team will be hosting the North Fork Miners who are 15-8 overall on the season, 6-3 in league play and 4th in the Western Slope League and the Fury will also be hosting the Cedaredge Bruins who are 12-11 overall on the season, 4-6 in league play and 7th in the Western Slope League. North Fork and Cedaredge played earlier in the season where North Fork got the win 3-1. These teams were not present at the State Tournament last season, so the winner of this region will be a new team from last year.
Region 5: 5. Stargate School, 20. Middle Park, 32. Kent Denver: 11/8 @ 10:00 AM
Region 5 will be hosted by Stargate School. The Eagles are 21-2 overall on the season with a 9-1 league record and 2nd in the Metro league. The team will be hosting Middle Park and Kent Denver who are 16-7 overall, 6-1 in league and 2nd in the Frontier league and 10-13 overall, 2-8 in league play and 9th in the Metro league. Stargate School and Kent Denver played earlier in the season where Stargate School won 3-0. All of these teams will be new faces to the State Tournament form last year, so each team will be looking to win and move onto play at the Denver Coliseum.
Region 6: 6. Bayfield, 19. Peak to Peak, 31. St. Mary’s Academy: 11/8 @ 10:00 AM
Bayfield will be the host of region 6 this season. The Wolverines enter the postseason after going 16-7 overall on the season, 6-2 in league play and ended 2nd in the Intermountain league. The team will be hosting Peak to Peak who went 13-10 overall in the regular season, 5-5 in league play and ended 6th in the Metro League, and St. Mary’s Academy who went 10-12 overall, 3-7 in league play and ended 7th in the Metro League. Peak to Peak and St. Marys’ Academy played earlier in the season and Peak to Peak got the win 3-1. Bayfield has not played either team yet this season. Both Bayfield and Peak to Peak were at the State Tournament last season and will be looking to beat each other and St. Mary’s Academy to make a repeat appearance.
Region 7: 7. The Classical Academy, 18. Platte Valley, 30. DSST: Conservatory Green: 11/8 @ 9:00 AM
Region 7 will be hosted by The Classical Academy Titans who ended their regular season 21-2 overall, 10-0 in league play and 1st in the CSML North League. The Titans will be hosting last years State Runner-ups Platte Valley who went 12-11 overall in the regular season with an 8-4 league record and a 5th place finish in the Patriot league, and DSST: Conservatory Green who ended their regular season 11-12 overall, 9-0 in league play, and ended 1st in the City League. With Platte Valley the only team to be in the State Tournament last season, the three teams will be looking to see who will come out on top and go next week to the Denver Coliseum.
Region 8: 8. Sterling, 17. Lamar, 29. Jefferson Academy: 11/7 @ 2:00 PM
The hosts of region 8 will be Sterling this year who ended their regular season 17-6 overall, 8-3 in league and 4th in the Patriot League. The Tigers will host the Lamar Thunder who went 15-8 overall so far this season, 12-0 in league play and ended 1st in the Tri-Peaks League, and Jefferson Academy who went 8-15 overall in the regular season, 2-8 in league play and 10th in the Metro League. With sterling being the only team in this region who was at the State Tournament last year, they will be looking to beat the Thunder and the Jaguars to make it back while the other teams will be looking for the upset and be a new team there this season.
Region 9: 9. Gunnison, 16. Windsor Charter Academy, 28. The Academy: 11/8 @ 10:00 AM
Gunnison is the host of region 9 this season. The Cowboys are entering the postseason after going 18-5 overall in the regular season, 9-0 in league play and ending 1st in the Western Slope League. Gunnison will be hosting Windsor Charter who ended their regular season 15-8 overall, 7-5 in league and 6th in the Patriot League, and The Academy who went 9-14 overall, 3-7 in league and ended 8th in the Metro League. Not only have these teams not played each other this season, but none of these teams were present in last season’s State Tournament. This will be an exciting region where the winner will be a fresh face at the Denver Coliseum this season.
Region 10: 10. Centauri, 15. Coal Ridge, 27. Brush: 11/7 @ 2:00 PM
Centauri is the host of region 10 and went 15-8 overall during the regular season, 4-4 in league play and ended 3rd in the Intermountain League. Centauri is the only team in their region who were at the State Tournament last season and will be hosting Coal Ridge and Brush. Coal Ridge comes into the postseason after ending their regular season 17-6 overall, 7-2 in league play and 3rd in the Western Slope League. Brush enters the postseason after going 10-13 overall, 6-6 in league play and ending 7th in the Patriot League. These teams have yet to face one another this season but Centauri will be looking for a return ticket to the State Tournament while the other teams will be looking to be a new team to appear at the Denver Coliseum.
Region 11: 11. Aspen, 14. The Vanguard School, 26. KIPP Denver Collegiate:11/8 @1:00 PM
Region 11 will be hosted by the Aspen Skiers. Aspen ends their regular season with an 18-5 overall record, an 8-1 league record and 2nd in the Western Slope League. The Skiers will be welcoming The Vanguard School, who went 18-5 overall, 11-1 in league and ended the regular season 2nd in the Tri-Peaks league, and KIPP Denver Collegiate who went 13-6 overall in the regular season, 7-2 in league play, and ended 3rd in the City league. The teams in this region have not played each other this season and the winner of this region, no matter which team it is, will be a new face at the State Tournament from last season.
Region 12: 12 Prospect Ridge Academy, 13. Village, 25. Montezuma-Cortez: 11/8 @10:00 AM
Region 12 will take place at Prospect Ridge Academy this season. The Miners ended their regular season with a 17-6 overall record, a 6-4 league record ad ended 5th in the Metro League. The Miners will be hosting the defending State Champions in the Village Mountaineers who went 16-7 overall in the regular season, and Montezuma-Cortez Panthers who went 11-12 overall in the regular season, 2-6 in league play and ended 4th in the Intermountain League. These teams have yet to face one another this season and Village will be looking to punch their ticket to Denver Coliseum for defend their title while the other teams will be looking to beat them and guarantee a new title winner this year.
