Class 2A Girls Basketball League Predictions
The official start to basketball was last week and most teams will kick off play sometime this week. We dive into each league that we are putting as Class 2A. Some mixed Classes will be in the 3A League Predictions. Remember, for Class 2A you now must be ranked inside the top 32 of the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index to make it to Regionals or win your league (Minimum of 5 teams). Regionals will still be first two rounds with the highest seed as the host and the brackets will not be reseeded before state. Class 1A will still play a full Consolation Round.

The Mile High League will get an automatic berth into regionals. Only the top team regardless of Class will get the automatic berth. Heritage Christian is my pick to win the Mile High League. Heritage Christian returns 4 of their top 5 scorers from last season and should be a threat to reach the state tournament. Offensive production must improve for Heritage Christian to make a deep run. Lyons, Dayspring Christian, and Union Colony Prep look to be the main contenders for the league title and should reach regionals. Flatirons Academy, SkyView Academy, Gilpin County, Estes Park, and Front Range Christian could all be in the mix for regionals in their respective classes.

2A Southern Peaks
1. Sanford
2. Sargent
3. Del Norte
4. Center
5. Trinidad
6. Crested Butte
The 2A Southern Peaks will get an automatic berth into regionals since they have over 5 teams. The SPL should be very competitive this season with all 6 teams being regional contenders and possibly a pair of state tournament teams. Sanford is my pick to win the Southern Peaks League. Sanford lost two seniors from last year’s team that finished 3rd place. Sanford will look for new leadership but return 3 of their top 5 scorers from last year. Sargent looks to be the main challenger to the League Crown. Sargent returns nearly their entire roster but depth for the Farmers is a major concern. Del Norte, Center, Trinidad, and Crested Butte will all be regional contenders and could cause some chaos inside the Southern Peaks League.

The 2A Santa Fe League will get an automatic berth into regionals this year because they have over 5 teams in the league. Hoehne is my pick to win the Santa Fe League. Hoehne returns their top scorer from last season but lost depth from their state tournament team. Who else can step up for Hoehne is going to be key for Hoehne to make a state tournament run. Crowley County looks to be the main challenger for the League Title Crown. Crowley County returns 3 of their top 5 scorers including their top scorer from last year. If depth can step up this year Crowley County push for the league title. Las Animas, Swink, and Fowler look to be regional contenders this year. The 2A/1A Lower Platte could be very competitive this season as 5 of the 6 teams are regional contenders and 4 of the teams could be state tournament contenders. Merino is my pick to win the Lower Platte League. Merino returns their top 3 scorers from last year but will lose some depth from last year’s state championship team. If Merino can stay healthy, they will look to defend their title. Akron, Caliche, and Sedgwick County look to be the main league title contenders but also regional and state tournament contenders. Holyoke could also be in the mix for a regional contender spot.

Plateau Valley is my pick to win the Western Slope League and is a State Tournament contender. Plateau Valley does lose their top scorer from last season but return 3 of their top 5 scorers including two over 8.5 ppg. Depth must step up this season for Plateau Valley. Rangely, Hayden, and Soroco look to be the main challengers for the league title and regionals. 1. Cotopaxi (1A)
2. Custer County
3. South Park
4. Cripple Creek (1A)
The 2A/1A West Central will not get an automatic berth into Regional and will have to qualify for Regionals by being ranked inside the top 32 of the CHSAA Seeding Index. Cotopaxi is my pick to win the West Central. Cotopaxi returns their top scorer from last year but who else can step up around her will be key for Cotopaxi to make a run for the State Tournament. The 2A/1A Union Pacific will get an automatic berth into regionals. Only the top team regardless of Class will get the automatic berth. The Union Pacific League could be very competitive this year with at least 5 regional contenders and a few state tournament contenders. Stratton is my pick to win the Union Pacific League. Stratton returns 3 of their top 5 scorers including their top scorer from last season. Stratton will have some pieces to replace plus key depth. Burlington, Byers, Flagler, and Genoa-Hugo look to be the main contenders for the league title. They also will be in the mix for regionals, and a few could push for the state tournament.

5. Ridgway
6. Telluride (3A)
7. Ouray (1A)
The 3A/2A/1A San Juan League will get an automatic berth into regionals. Only the top team regardless of Class will get the automatic berth. Nucla is my pick to win the San Juan League. Nucla will have a few holes to fill from last season losing two of their top 5 scorers. Nucla will return their leading scorer but will have to find depth behind their top 3 scorers. Dove Creek looks to be the main challenger for the league crown. Dove Creek returns their #2 and #3 scorers from last season but lost other key pieces. If Dove Creek can have depth step up look for Dove Creek to win the league. Dolores, Ridgway and Mancos also appear to be regional contenders in the San Juan League.

The 2A Black Forest will get an automatic berth into regionals due to having more than 5 teams. Simla is my pick to win the 2A Black Forest League. Simla looks poised to make a push for the State Tournament and make a deep run. Simla returns 4 of their top 6 scorers from last season losing their #3 scorer and top rebounder. Simla will return their top 2 scorers and a POY candidate. Calhan will be the main challenger for the league title and they will also look to contend for a regional spot. Calhan will have to get the offensive production to increase and if they can could challenge. Kiowa looks to be the other regional contender from the league. Kiowa has some seniors to replace but look for them to still push for regionals.
My predictions for Black Forest
League Champion: Simla
