3A/2A/1A San Juan League

The San Juan league is currently being led by Nucla 14-0 (4-0).  1A Nucla also sits at #1 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and are a lock for regionals.  Nucla currently has a one game lead over the rest of the league but still must face Telluride twice who is in second place.  Nucla has just one game this week against Mancos tonight 1/29.  3A Telluride sits in second at 4-7 (2-1).  Telluride is currently sitting at #39 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and will need a big end to the season to push for the top 32 of Class 3A or win the league.  Telluride kicks off this weekend against Dolores on Friday.  Dolores is sitting in 3rd place in league currently with a 9-6 overall record and 4-2 in league.  Dolores would currently make the regional field at #27 but must have a solid finish to the end of the season avoiding the upsets by the teams below them in the league standings.  Dolores will face Telluride on Friday.  The final team to mention is 1A Ouray.  Ouray is currently 8-5 overall and 3-2 in league.  Ouray is currently #17 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and look to be in solid shape for regionals.  Ouray does not have another game this week but jump back into league play against Dove Creek on 2/3.  Dove Creek sits in 5th at 3-10 (2-2), Ridgway sits in 6th 3-9 (1-5), and Mancos is in 7th at 1-9 (0-4).

2A Southern Peaks League

The Southern Peaks League currently has two undefeated teams in Center and Sanford.  Sanford currently is 12-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.  Sanford sits at #6 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and a lock for regionals.  Sanford still must face Center and that won’t happen till mid-February.  Sanford will have a full schedule this weekend facing Trinidad (3rd) tomorrow night and Sargent (4th) and Saturday.  Center is also undefeated in league at 2-0 and are currently 9-5 overall.  Center as mentioned still must face Sanford.  Center currently is in good shape to reach regionals sitting at #16 in the CHSAA Seeding Index.  Center could make a push for the top 12 with their remaining schedule.  Center has just one game remaining this week against Crested Butte tonight.  Trinidad is currently in 3rd place in the SPL sitting at 2-1 in league and 9-2 overall.  Trinidad has finished most of their league games getting two big wins over Crested Butte and Del Norte but lost to Center.  Trinidad currently is #12 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and in good shape to reach regionals.  Trinidad still has some big games remaining on their schedule and avoiding any bad losses will be key to staying inside the top 20.  Trinidad will have just one game this weekend and it’s a huge game against Sanford tomorrow night.  Sargent is currently in a tie for 4th place with Del Norte, but I am using the CHSAA Seeding Index to break that tie.  Sargent is currently 0-1 in league play and 5-5 overall.  Sargent has the gauntlet coming up on their schedule with two huge matchups this weekend plus some key remaining games down the stretch including Trinidad (3rd) and Crested Butte.  Sargent is currently #34 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and would be the 2nd team on the outside looking in.  Sargent will have a pair of games this weekend facing Del Norte tomorrow night and wrapping the weekend up with a contest against Sanford.  Del Norte sits in 4th at 2-8 overall (0-1), Crested Butte sits in 6th at 4-7 overall (0-2).

2A/1A Lower Platte League

Currently the Lower Platte League has just started league play with all teams playing just 1 league game.  Currently Merino, Holyoke, and Sedgwick County all sit tied in 1st place with 1 league win.  Merino is currently 1-0 in league play and 5-8 overall.  Merino had a huge week last week picking up wins over Limon and Haxtun both were ranked.  Merino jumped up to #14 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and is a near lock for regionals.  Merino has a huge weekend yet again they will face Caliche which is a league game Friday Night and will wrap up the weekend against #1 Simla on Saturday Night.  Holyoke is currently 1-0 in league play and 6-7 overall.  Holyoke league win was over Akron last week.  Holyoke is currently at #23 in the CHSAA Seeding Index.  They are on the bubble at #23 and finishing the season strong will be key.  Holyoke has a brutal remaining schedule facing 6 teams currently ranked inside the top 20 of the Seeding Index.  Holyoke will face an out-of-state opponent tonight in Chase County NE and then move back into league play on Friday Night against Haxtun.  Sedgwick County is currently 1-0 in league and 4-6 overall.  Sedgwick County league win was over Caliche two weeks ago and with that win snapped a losing streak of 6 straight games.  Sedgwick County is currently #22 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and is considered on the bubble.  Sedgwick County does have a tough remaining schedule and will need a few wins to make sure they make the regional field.  Sedgwick County has two games this weekend facing out-of-state opponent tonight in Perkins County NE and then a league matchup against Akron on Friday Night.  Haxtun is currently in 4th place sitting at 0-1 in league and 8-6 overall.  Haxtun gets the nod over Akron and Caliche due to sitting at #11 in the CHSAA Seeding Index.  Haxtun should make regionals but avoiding any big losses will be key to remaining in the top 16.  Haxtun will look to get back into the win column in league when they face Holyoke on Friday.

2A/1A Union Colony Prep League

The Union Colony Prep League is still in the early stages of league play.  Currently Limon and Burlington are undefeated in league play, but Byers and Stratton have not started league play and will also be mentioned this week.  Limon is currently 2-0 in league play and 5-7 overall.  Limon has played a brutal schedule and currently are 1-4 in their last 5 games.  Limon is #17 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and hopes a strong end to their season helps them climb up the Seeding Index and any win should help them.  Limon will face Las Animas Friday Night which is another key game and wrap up the weekend against Deer Trail on Saturday.  Burlington is currently 1-0 in league play and 2-7 overall.  Burlington is currently #47 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and will also look for a strong end to their season to try and move into the top 32.  Burlington has also played a tough schedule so any win probably will help their cause, but they need to get near .500 to reach regionals.  Burlington will get their shot at two key wins this weekend when they face Flagler on Friday Night and Byers on Saturday Night.  Byers has yet to kick off league play but are a top team in Class 2A sitting at 9-2 overall.  Byers are #2 in the CHSAA Seeding Index with both losses coming to top teams in Wiggins and #1 Simla.  Byers will face a non-league opponent in Arickaree tonight and finally kick off league play against Burlington on Saturday.  Stratton also has not kicked off league play but in my opinion are the top team in Class 1A after wins over Cheyenne Wells and McClave.  Stratton sits at #3 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and both loses are to out-of-state opponents early in the season.  Stratton won’t kick off league play till next week but will face Fleming tonight and Kit Carson on Friday Night.  Flagler is currently 2-1 in league play and 5-6 overall, Deer Trail is currently 0-1 in league play and 0-12 overall, and Genoa-Hugo is currently 0-3 in league play and 1-10 overall.
