
Class 2A Girls Basketball Weekly Review and Preview

As the month of January wraps up and we head into the final month of the regular season, we take a look at the teams who are in the middle of the pack in the CHSAA Seeding Index at positions 17-32. These teams would make the playoffs if the season were to end today, but since we still have a month to go, we will keep an eye out and see where they end up towards the end of the season.
Loveland Classical
The lions are currently sitting outside of the top 16 teams at number 17 in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 9-3 overall record, a 4-0 league record and are sitting in 1st in the Foothills league. Loveland Classical is on a six game winning streak after their win over AWCPA 51-26 earlier this week. The team will be looking to maintain their success and add more wins to their record next week when they face off against Estes Park on 2/ 2, Denver Jewish Day on 2/3 and STEMSHR on 2/4.
Stat leaders for the Lions are Kaelyn Doan with 107 points, 4 assists, and 29 rebounds, Abigail Ruppert with 86 points, 3 assists, 21 rebounds and 32 steals, Keira Doan with 68 points, 4 assists, and 25 rebounds, and 25 steals, and Gracie Saxton with 22 steals.
James Irwin
James Irwin falls back to the number 8 spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index this week. The Jaguars have a 5-2 overall record and will not play any league games until February. Last week ended on a win for the team as they defeated Manitou Springs 43-40. The team will be looking to have the same success this week as they will end the first month of the year hosting Lamar on 1/29 and then traveling to Ellicott on 1/31.
Leading the team on the stat board for the Jaguars are Hannah Meier with 83 points, 13 assists, 56 rebounds and 42 steals, Mia Busby with 77 points, 28 assists, 124 rebounds and 33 steals, Stella Reed with 76 points, 80 rebounds and 17 steals, and Syrai Rigsby with 19 assists.
Center
The Center Vikings stay within the top 20 teams in the CHSAA Seeding Index at number 19. The team is currently 10-4 overall on the season, 1-1 in league play and are 4th in the Southern Peaks League. The last game for the Vikings resulted in a win over Custer County 47-33 after Center fell to Sargent 18-23. The Vikings will be looking to add another win to their overall and league record this week and will be traveling to Crested Butte tonight to take on the Titans.
Leading the Viking stat board are Emiliana Valdez with 150 points and 74 rebounds, Karyme Chavez with 93 points and 44 rebounds. Anahlicia Villagomez with 50 points, 11 assists, and 32 steals, Alyciana Lujan with 16 assists, and Dulce Palma with 11 assists, 50 rebounds, and 26 steals.
Dayspring Christian Academy
DCA rounds out the top 20 teams in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 6-7 overall record, a 4-1 league record and sitting in 3rd in the Mile High League. The Eagles fell to Denver Christian last week 33-71 but was able to bounce back this week and beat Lyons 51-40. DCA will be looking to add more wins to their record next week as they will kick off February hosting Flatirons Academy on 2/3.
Stat leaders for the Eagles are Taylor Reese with 156 points, 34 assists, and 52 steals, Brynnli Bryson with 136 points, 36 assists, and 43 steals, Mikayla Perman with 78 points, Sophia O’Neill with 29 assists and 71 rebounds, Hadley Bonnell with 79 rebounds, and Gracie Gilmore with 29 steals.
Las Animas
Las Animas with currently 8-3 overall on the season with a 2-0 league record and are currently sitting in 2nd in the Santa Fe League. The Trojans ended last week’s play off with a win over Holly 50- 14 and will be looking to keep their success going as they travel to Swink tonight to take on the Lions. The team will then come back home to host the Limon Badgers on 1/30 to end the month of January.
Leading Las Animas on the stat board are Jadann Eck with 82 points, 6 assists, and 27 steals, Ava LaBarge with 78 points, 45 assists, and 40 steals, Mayela Magana with 72 points and 14 assists, Roree Willbanks with 57 rebounds and 20 steals, Abigail Netherton with 43 rebounds, and Emma Russell with 39 rebounds.
Hoehne
The Farmers are currently 7-6 overall on the season, 4-0 in league play, 1st in the Santa Fe League and are sitting 22nd in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Hoehne is currently on a 3 game winning streak after beating Fowler last week 47-20 and beating Swink to start this week 46-37 to end their play in the month of January. To kick off February, the Farmers will travel to Rocky Ford next week on 2/3 to take on the Meloneers.
Stat leaders for Hoehne are Paisley San Roman with 95 points, 22 assists, 63 rebounds, and 30 steals, Isabella Chacon with 93 points, 37 assists, and 25 steals, Aspen Garrison with 79 points, Mikenna Dasko with 44 assists, 53 rebounds, and 36 steals, and Taylor Trujillo with 41 rebounds.
Ridgway
The Ridgway Demons are 8-5 overall on the season with a 4-2 league record, and are 3rd in the San Juan League. Last week the team ended with a win over league opponent Ouray 48-18 and started this week off with another league win over Dolores 49-26. The team will be looking to extend their three game winning streak to end the month as they will host Caprock Academy on 1/29 and league opponent Mancos on 1/31.
Leading the team on the stat board are Sophia Scranton with 135 points, 44 assists, 94 rebounds, and 70 steals, Emery Cornell with 104 points, 17 assists, 53 rebounds and 59 steals, Martina Smith with 75 points, 16 assists, and 67 rebounds, and Macey Cornell with 30 steals.
Twin Peaks Classical Academy
Twin Peaks Classical currently has a 7-4 overall record, a 3-1 league record, are 3rd in the Foothills league and are 24th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Last week the Timberwolves ended with a win over STEMSHR 44-20, but then started this week with a loss to ACA 27-39. The team was able to bounce back and get a win last night over league opponent Poudre Community Academy 46-11. The team will be looking to end the week on a win as they will take on Campion Academy tonight to end the week. They will then start the month of February hosting Ascent Classical on 2/2.
Stat leaders for the Timberwolves are Kaleigh Can Pelt with 147 points, 17 assists, 80 rebounds, and 74 steals, Elizabeth Zeh with 52 points, Claire Gifford with 29 points and 53 rebounds, Cleo Baker with 10 assists and 30 steals, Imani Franxis with 7 assists, 60 rebounds, and 22 steals, and Cleo Baker with 30 steals.
Gilpin County
The Eagles round out the top 25 teams in the CHSAA Seeding Index with an 8-3 overall record, a 2-1 league record, and are 6th in the Mile High League. The team is currently on a small losing streak of two games, falling last week to Heritage Christian 41-73 and St. Mary’s Academy 36-48. Gilpin County will be looking to bounce back and secure a win to end the month as they travel to Flatirons Academy to play a league game on 1/30.
Stat leaders for Gilpin County are Elise Vincent with 160 points, 25 assists, 8- rebounds, and 84 steals, Amelia Bushey with 103 points, 70 rebounds, and 44 steals, Adele Fisher with 57 points, 17 assists, 52 rebounds, and 31 steals, and Jennifer Rodriguez-Jimenez with 17 assists.
Caprock Academy
Caprock Academy was able to end last week with a win over Hayden 32-22 to put the Eagles at a 7-4 overall record, a 2-1 league record, and in 3rd in the Western Slope league. The team will be looking to add yet another win to their record to end the month as they travel to Ridgway today and then will go to league opponent Soroco on 1/31 in hopes of adding another league win to their record as well.
Leafing Caprock Academy on the stat board are Rachel Bogan with 30 points and 19 steals, Taylor Phillips with 27 points, 9 assists, 22 rebounds and 22 steals, Ashley Wilke with 20 points, 18 rebounds, and 9 stelas, Katie Repshire with 6 assists, and Nakya Stollstiemer with 5 assists.
Trinidad
The Miners are currently 7-4 overall on the season, 2-1 in league play and are 5th in the Southern Peaks League. Trinidad fell last week to Del Norte 31-50 but was able to bounce back and end the week with a win over Crested Butte 31-25. The Miners will be looking to add another win to their record to end the month of January as they host their league opponent, the Sanford Mustangs, on 1/30.
Leading the Miners on the stat board are Mikayla Hinchley with 106 points, 105 rebounds and 11 steals, Maya Morales with 104 points, 12 assists, 63 rebounds, and 15 steals, Danica Shipley with 84 points, 42 assists, 72 rebounds and 16 steals, and Keeley Maez with 8 assists.
Vail Mountain
The Rangers are currently 7-6 overall on the season with a 3-3 league record, and are 5th in the Western Slope League. Last week, Vail Mountain lost to Rangely 30-42 and Plateau Valley 15-41. The team will be looking to bounce back and get a win to end January as they will go to North Park on 1/31.
Stat leaders for the Rangers are Abby Adochio with 89 rebounds, 9 assists, 66 rebounds, and 32 steals, Kiana Garcia with 84 points, 16 assists, and 31 steals, Izzy Adochio with 59 points, 30 assists, 66 rebounds and 38 steals, and Annie Halloran with 34 rebounds.
Golden View Classical Academy
The Sentinels ended the previous week with a loss to Denver Jewish Day 26-35 but started this week off with a win over STEMSHR 45-23. In the teams most recent game, Golden View Classical lost to ACA 27-56. The team is now 8-6 overall on the season, 3-1 in league plat and are 4th in the Foothills league. The Sentinels will be looking end the month on a win today as they go on the road to face Dawson School.
Stat leaders for GVCA are Ainsley Chidester with 86 points and 33 steals, Jocelyn Le with 73 points, 13 assists, 71 rebounds and 30 steals, Sedona Knott with 66 points, 15 assists, 73 rebounds, and 29 steals, Audrey Clark with 13 assists, and Mira Lensink with 81 rebounds.
Crested Butte
Rounding out the top 30 teams in the CHSAA Seeding index, Crested Butte with currently 4-7 overall on the season, 0-2 in league play and are 6th in the Southern Peaks League. The Titans were able to get a win over Hayden last week 45-26, but ended the week with a loss to Trinidad 25-31. To start this week, the Titans losing to Gunnison 12-45. The team will be looking for a couple of wins to end the month and will host the Center Vikings on 1/29 and the Del Norte Tigers on 1/31.
Leading the Titans on the stat board are Molly Grace Miller with 92 points, 6 assists, 41 rebounds, and 17 steals, Lola Wright with 42 points, 6 assists, 37 rebounds, and 15 steals, Rio Crabtree with 31 points, and 20 steals, Ella Davis with 3 assists, and Cecilia Naughton with 30 rebounds.
Ascent Classical Academy
Ascent Classical Academy is 4-5 overall on the season with a 2-1 league record, and are 5th in the Foothills league. The Guardians ended last week with a win over AWCPA 50-25 and will be looking to get another win when they play their first game in February against TPCA on 2/2 and Nederland on 2/4.
Stat leaders for the Guardians are Naomi Sanchez with 121 points, 19 assists, 57 trbounds, and 44 steals, Riley Johnson with 82 points, 22 assists, and 34 steals, Charlotte Trouba with 46 points and 81 rebounds, Lydia Rogers with 11 assists and 51 rebounds, and Josie Trouba with 40 steals.
Limon
The Badgers are currently number 32 in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 2-10 overall record, a 0-2 league record and are currently in 5th in the Union Pacific League. Last week, the Badgers got a win over Crowley County 54-53, but then fell to Merino 20-65. This week the team took on Simla and lost 11-73. To end the month, Limon will be looking to get a win and move their way up the seeding index as they will take on Las Animas on 1/30 and then they will travel to league opponent Deer Trail on 1/31.
Stat leaders for Limon are Braelyn Malcom with 45 points, Chloe Stone with 39 points, 8 assists, and 15 steals, Emma Coonts with 26 points, 8 assists, 34 rebounds and 13 steals, Sydney Richardson with 8 assists, 29 rebounds, and 16 steals, and Kinlee Mellott with 51 rebounds.
