Week 7 Recap

Butch Melton Invitational

This tournament showcased the depth and dominance of Cedaredge and North Fork, two programs that continue to set the standard in the region. Cedaredge’s three champions — Cash Martinez (120), Cole Wyatt (215), and Travis Gill (285) — anchored a massive 231‑point performance built on depth across nearly every bracket.

North Fork matched that firepower with three champions of their own: Tallin Hall (106), Bronson Hall (126), and Braeden Flores (157). Their lineup placed ten wrestlers, showing a balance of elite talent and reliable depth.

Norwood delivered a strong showing behind Colton Kepley’s title at 190, plus podium finishes from Harris, Tackett, and Dinsmore. Dolores had one of its best tournaments of the season, earning titles from Kenji Edwards (132) and Mason Hill (138) while adding several high‑value placers.

Ignacio produced one of the tournament’s most impressive individual performances with Lincoln deKay (165), who dominated a tough round‑robin bracket. Nucla, Dove Creek, and Mancos each contributed key placers, with Nucla’s McCabe (132) leading the way.

La Junta Invitational

This was a strong showing for Fowler, who once again proved how dangerous their middleweights are. Titles from Gunner Housten (132) and Jesse James (165) anchored a lineup that consistently reached the finals and semifinals..

Las Animas delivered a classic high‑impact performance: fewer entries, but big scorers. Layf Skadberg (106) continues to look like one of the most polished freshmen in the state, and the Martinez’s added valuable podium points.

Crowley County didn’t have the numbers, but Derreck Buford (113) remains one of the most reliable title threats in any bracket. Swink followed a similar pattern, powered by Keegan Martin (215) and a pair of solid upper‑weight placers.

County Line, Del Norte, and Cheyenne Wells each produced key individuals — especially Shaine Winder (132) and Kelby Leonard (150) — but lacked the depth to climb higher in the standings.
