Week 7 Recap

41st Annual Les Mattocks

This tournament was a commanding display from Alamosa, who put ten wrestlers on the podium and crowned four champions. Their middleweights — Rodriguez (132), Uriah Martinez (138), and Griego (150) — were especially dominant, and Meder (120) continues to look like one of the most reliable bonus‑point scorers in the state.

Wellington had a strong showing with five placers and three finalists, but couldn’t quite break through for a title. Their lineup is consistent and competitive across the lower and middle weights, and they continue to trend upward.

Mullen delivered high‑end firepower with three champions — PJ Martinez (113), Isaak Chavez (175), and Champion Dyes (285) — each winning with authority. Their smaller roster kept them from climbing higher in the team race, but their top‑end talent was undeniable.

Salida made the most of its entries, going two‑for‑two in the finals with Samuel Johnson (157) and Jacob Johnson (165), both of whom controlled their brackets.

Platte Valley, Alameda, Conifer, and Middle Park each produced key placers, with Vannest (144) and Hoover (138) standing out as gritty, high‑value performers.

La Junta Invitational

This tournament delivered one of La Junta’s most complete performances of the season. With three champions — Jordan Gamez (126), Raif Robinson (144), and Santos Nunez (150) — plus four more finalists, they controlled the middleweights and never let go of the momentum.

Lamar showed strong depth but ran into a wall in the finals, with Aiden Perez (190) earning their lone title. Their lineup produced six placers, but too many fourth‑place finishes kept them from pushing La Junta in the team race.

Brush made the most of its smaller roster thanks to a statement win from Austin Ley (175) and two more podium finishes. They continue to be one of the most efficient teams in any bracket.

Florence had a quality showing, highlighted by Moses Behnam‑Rondon’s dominant title at 157, plus runner‑up and third‑place finishes that kept them competitive despite a tough field.
