3A Girls Basketball Weekly Review and Preview

This week as the last month of the regular season kicks off, we take a look at the top 16 teams in the CHSAA Seeding Index and see the movement that has occurred in the last couple of weeks. As the last month is here, teams will be battling for better position in the index and will try to guarantee their playoff positions with league titles.

Denver Christian

The Thunder are at the top of the seeding index with a 17-1 overall record, a 5-0 league record and are 1st in the Metro league. Last week, Denver Christian was able to beat Eagle Ridge Academy 77-21 and Stargate School 70-11 and started this week off with a win over Jefferson Academy 62-27. The team will end this week tonight facing Peak to Peak, and then they will play next week against The Academy on 2/10.

Stat leaders for Denver Christian are Natalie Bohannon with 273 points, 143 rebounds and 61 steals, Tenley Fuller with 251 points,76 assists, 109 rebounds, and 98 steals, Riah Moore with 192 points and 58 assists, Teagan Fuller with 50 assists and 98 steals and Addison Ruter with 98 rebounds.

Colorado Springs Christian                                         

The Lions are currently 11-3 overall on the season with a 6-1 league record and are 3rd in the Tri-Peaks league. CSCHS was able to end January with wins over TCA 56-33 and St. Mary’s 61-25 and then they started February off with wins over Pueblo County 43-38 and Manitou Springs 49-10. The team will be looking to keep adding to their wins and will face Limon on 2/6 and Lamar on 2/7, both on the road.

Leading the Lions’ stat board are Rose Ross with 185 points, 34 assists, 47  rebounds, and 58 steals, Jordyn Rollins with 125 points, 33 assists, 63 rebounds, and 55 steals, Capri Simpson with 67 points and 22 assists, Mykayla Trujillo with 56 rebounds, and Hayley Helwege with 26 steals.

Wiggins

Wiggins is 14-3 overall on the season so far this a 6-0 league record and are 2nd in the Patriot league. The Tigers were able to end January with wins over Liberty Common 46-26 and Platte Valley 36-22 and Wiggins also started February with a win over Highland 37-25.  The team will be looking to continue their 8 game win streak and will end this week on the road in Yuma on 2/6.

Stat leaders for the Tigers are Tenleigh Lorenzini with 148 points, and 145 rebounds, Karsyn Kerr with 120points, 31 assists, 79 rebounds, and 43 steals, Kellie Vicchrilli with 108 points and 38 steals, Kynley Yzaguirre with 26 assists, Kallie Green with 26 assists, and Jaydin Busch with 88 rebounds.

Centauri

Centauri is currently 12-3 overall on the season with a 6-0 league record and are 1st in the Intermountain league. The Falcons are on a 7 game winning streak after beating Alamosa 38-24 and Pagosa Springs 48-37 to end January. The team will be looking to continue their streak and will play Montezuma-Cortez on 2/6 and Bayfield on 2/7 to kick of February.

Stat leaders for the Falcons are Lyndie Sowards with 31 points, Kynlei Curtis with 20 points, 3 assists, 10 rebounds, and 9 steals, Rylie McCarroll with 19 points, 2 assists, and 15 rebounds, Bristol Pence with 3 assists, Sydney Haslett with 9 rebounds, Paityn Sowards with 11 steals, and Harper Russell with 9 steals.

Yuma

The Outlaws are 12-4 overall on the season with a 6-0 league record and are 1st in the Patriot league. Last week the team fell to Merino 24-46 but was able to come back and beat Frontier Academy 66-33 and start this week off with a win over Wray 54-29. With only a few games left on the schedule for Yuma, the team will be looking to accumulate as many wins as they can starting with Wiggins on 2/6 and Strasburg on 2/10.

Leading the stat board for Yuma are Berkley Nighswonger with 209, 29 assists, and 100 rebounds, Taryn Sheffield with 192 points, 35 assists and 48 steals, Carolina Ross with 97 points and 46 steals, Aubrey Black with 28 assists and 38 steals, and Lauren Gonzales with 89 rebounds.

Salida

Salida moves their way into the 6th spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index with an 11-2 overall record, a 7-0 league record and are 1st in the Tri-Peaks league. The Spartans ended January with a win over Ellicott 63-17 and started February with a win over Banning Lewis 59-23. The team will be looking to continue their win streak and will host Rye tonight and will end the week playing Simla on 2/7.

Leading the team on the stat board are Braeden Johnson with 212 points, 48 assists, 70 rebounds, and 61 steals, Graysa Kindle with 126 points, 18 assists, 111 rebounds, and 33 steals, Reagen Osness with 105 points, 56 rebounds and 38 steals, and Kaija Saari with 22 assists.

Thomas MacLaren School

The Highlanders are 14-1 overall on the season with a 1-0 league record and are 1st in the Black Forest League. Thomas MacLaren was able to end January with wins over Rocky Ford 62-36 and Calhan 54-38 and will be looking to take that momentum into February as they will start the new month facing GVCA on 2/7 and Banning Lewis Academy on 2/10.

Stat leaders for Thomas MacLaren are Sara Christensen with 233 points, 32 assists, 188 rebounds, and 111 steals,  Aneace Forman with 165 points, 29 assists, 99 rebounds, and 99 steals, Sarae Johnson with 123 points, 19 assists, and 42 steals, and Peyton Mulder with 48 rebounds.

Meeker

The Cowboys of Meeker are currently 12-2 overall on the season with a 7-1 league record and sit 1st in the Western Slope League. Meeker was able to end January with a win over Grand Valley 55-33 after they fell to North Fork 40-47. The team will be looking to take the winning momentum into February and will be on the road to Plateau Valley tonight and then they will end the week hosting Gunnison on 2/6 and Aspen on 2/7.

Stat leaders for the Cowboys are Rylee Sullivan with 207 points, 39 assists, and 49 steals, Addie Knowles with 130 points, 30 assists, 82 rebounds, and 45 steals, Cienna Rogers with 122 points, Raegan Clatterbaugh with 72 assists, 146 rebounds and 54 steals, and Haugen Harrison with 92 rebounds.

Forge Christian

Forge Christian is 11-1 overall on the season with a 4-1 league record and are 4th in the Metro League. The Fury ended last week with a loss to Colorado Academy 35-51 but was able to beat Resurrection Christian 51-49 and started this week off with a win over Prospect Ridge Academy 70-24. The team will be looking to continue adding to their win column as they take on St. Mary’s to end the week on 2/7. Next week the team will start games on the road to Stargate School on 2/10.

Fury stat leaders are Finley Queen with 257 points, 23 assists, 176 rebounds, and 45 steals, Aleeza Olson with 96 points and 28 steals, Rio Beck with 94 points, Leighton Queen with 48 assists and 67 rebounds, and Maxine Rossi with 33 assists, 68 rebounds, and 29 steals.

Roaring Fork

Rounding out the top 10 teams in the CHSAA Seeding Index is Roaring Fork, who has a 14-2 overall record, a 6-2 league record and is 4th in the Western Slope League. The Rams beat Aspen last week 70-8 but fell to North Fork 41-57. This week the team was able to get the win over Coal Ridge 70-39 and will be looking to do the same to Olathe tonight and Gunnison on 2/7.  Next week the team will host Meeker on 2/10.

Stat leaders for Roaring Fork are Riley Bevington with 427 points, 51 assists, 111 rebounds and 95 steals, Nikki Tardif with 200 points, 31 assists, 124 rebounds and 55 steals, Hazel Jenkins with 111 points and 101 rebounds, and Annelise Bumgarner with 41 assists and 37 steals.

Buena Vista

The Demons are 13-3 overall on the season, 8-1 in league play and are 2nd in the Tri-Peaks league. Buena Vista ended last month with wins over Banning Lewis 45-22 and Rye 61-34 and started February with a win over Ellicott 48-21. With only five games left on the schedule, the team will be looking to get as many wins as they can and will hope to move inside of the top 10 teams in the seeding index. The Demons will play The Vanguard school tonight and then will play next week on 2/12 against James Irwin.

Demon stat leaders are Liz Molitor with 185 points, 159 rebounds and 42 steals, Daisy Lubbers with 154 points, 27 assists, and 118 rebounds, Adeline Smith with 97 points, 42 assists, 76 rebounds, and 47 steals, and Alex Baird with 22 assists and 33 steals.

North Fork

The Miners are on a four game winning streak after beating Meeker 45-42 and Roaring Fork 57-41 last week. North Fork is now 12-3 overall on the season with a 7-2 league record and they are 3rd in the Western Slope League. The team will be looking to continue their success and will go to Cedaredge on 2/6 and will host Olathe on 2/7.

Stat leaders for North Fork are Meri Hollembeak with 197 points, 62 assists, and 62 steals, Alyssa Lovelace with 183 points, 23 assists, 105 rebounds, and 49 steals, Arlie Moore with 68 points, 39 assists, 65 rebounds, and 33 steals, and Brooke Angelovich with 73 rebounds.

Resurrection Christian

The Cougars are currently 13th in the seeding index with a 10-5 overall record, a 5-1 league record and are 3rd in the Patriot league. To end January, the team lost to Forge Christian 49-51 but was able to bounce back in the new month and beat Brush 64-24. Resurrection Christian will be looking to carry their momentum through the rest of the month and will play Liberty Common on 2.6 and then they will start next week with a league game against Platte Valley on 2/10.

Leading the stat board for the Cougars are Bethany Vrooman with 257 points, 21 assists, 96 rebounds, and 53 steals, Tatumn Van Pelt with 168 points, 36 assists, 64 rebounds, and 84 steals, Jenna Kennedy with 93 points, 30 assists, and 31 steals, and Bailey Koning with 80 rebounds.

Addenbrooke Classical Academy

ACA currently has a 12-3 overall record, a 5-1 league record and are 2nd in the Foothills league. The Mustangs started February off with wins over STEMSHR 51-5 and Two Roads Charter 42-2. This gives the team a 6 game winning streak and they will be looking to add to it as they host Arrupe Jesuit on 2/6 and travel to Poudre Community Academy on 2/9.

Stat leaders for the Mustangs are Reena Lanzen with 155 points, 25 assists, 69 rebounds, and 48 steals, Peyton Trujillo with 131 points, 36 assists, 76 rebounds, and 43 steals, and Lucia Rodriguez with 117 points, 34 assists, 112 rebounds, and 55 steals.

Wray

Wray sits at 15 in the seeding index with a 10-7 overall, a 5-3 league record and are 4th in the Patriot league. To end January, the Eagles were able to beat Platte Valley 56-54 but fell to Highland 40-47 and lost their first game of February 29-54 to Yuma. Wray will be looking to change their momentum and ger a win added to their record when they face Frontier Academy on 2/6 and start next week in Wiggins on 2/12.

Leading the Eagle’s stat board are Dayelle Davis with 173 points, 23 assists, and 37 steals, Addison Jones with 137 points, 31 assists, Katie Harms with 100 points, 94 rebounds, and 36 steals, Gracee Linman with 23 assists, Brylee Meisner with 97 rebounds and Sawyer Fonte with 77 rebounds and 24 steals.

Lyons

Rounding out the top 16 teams in the seeding index, Lyons has a 12-3 overall record, a 5-2 league record and are 3rd in the Mile High League. The Lions lost to DCA last week 40-51 but were able to end the week on a win against SkyView Academy 40-28. This week the team started with a loss to Heritage Christian 33-52. They will be looking to change their luck and get some wins to stay in the top half of the teams and will play next week against Flatirons Academy on 2/10.

Leading the team on the stat board are Gwen Gadbaw with 153 points, 27 assists, 70 rebounds and 48 steals, Luci Santesteban with 119 points, 44 assists, and 67 steals, Gretta Wynja with 115 points and 124 rebounds, and Ava Vasquez with 41 assists, 187 rebounds and 35 steals.
