2026 Colorado 2A Wrestling State Preview

The 2026 2A wrestling championship arrives with more depth, parity, and star power than any season in recent memory. With powerhouse programs peaking at the right time, emerging contenders rising fast, and multiple brackets featuring state‑final caliber matchups before Saturday night, this year’s tournament promises to be unforgettable.

The combination of regional performance and statewide rankings reveals a clear picture of who can win, and who can shock the state.

State Title Contenders

Highland – The Firepower Favorite

Ranked #1, Highland brings 8 qualifiers and 5 regional champions, including – #2 Carter Jensen (132), #4 Korbin Hoke (126), and #1 Wyatt Chase (190).  Their path to a title depends on pushing multiple wrestlers into the finals with bonus points.

North Fork – The Most Complete Team

Ranked #5 but wrestling like #1, North Fork brings 10 qualifiers and 4 champions, including multiple top‑ranked individuals, including #2 Bronson Hall (126), #1 Braeden Flores (157), and #2 Tallin Hall (106).  Their depth across all weights makes them a legitimate title threat.

Rocky Ford – The Threat

Rocky Ford brings a dangerous combination of elite individuals and upper‑weight firepower. Their lineup includes multiple wrestlers ranked in the top three statewide.  #1 Emilio Vallejos (106) is a title favorite.  #2 Omar Ocana (285) and #8 Julius Martinez (150) can score big.  Eight qualifiers give them enough depth to stay in the race.

Cedaredge – The Balanced Hammer

Ranked #2, Cedaredge brings 6 qualifiers and 3 champions, including #1‑ranked Cash Martinez (120) and #1‑ranked Liam Martin (126). Their top‑end talent keeps them in the title conversation.

Burlington – The Surprise

Burlington is the most dangerous “unranked” contender in the field. With 10 qualifiers, they match North Fork for the deepest roster in the state. They may not have as many #1‑ranked individuals, but they have more wrestlers capable of scoring mid‑level points than almost anyone. Depth, depth, depth—10 qualifiers.  Multiple ranked wrestlers capable of placing, including #10 Daxton Abernathy (144) and #7 Scout Humrich (157).

Buena Vista – The Upper‑Weight Hammer

Buena Vista may not have the depth of North Fork or others, but their top‑end talent is elite. They have three legitimate title contenders and several wrestlers ranked inside the top five.  #1 Carter Stromer (215) and #1 Casen Pridemore (285) are heavy favorites.  #3 Abel Flowers (175) is a podium lock.  Buena Vista needs its three stars to win titles and its remaining qualifiers to place. If they do, they can crack the top five.

Meeker – The High‑End Specialist

Meeker doesn’t have the depth of the top teams, but their top‑end talent is as good as anyone’s. They have multiple wrestlers ranked #1 or #2 in the state.  #1 Koy Weber (132) is one of the most dominant wrestlers in 2A.  #3 Kael Overton (138) and #5 Orion Musser (165) can score deep.

Teams Chasing

Trinidad, Monte Vista, Yuma all bring the depth and firepower to finish in the top four. Each has multiple ranked wrestlers capable of deep runs.

What to watch

  • 120: Cash Martinez of Cedaredge going for second title
  • 113: Jared Roberts of Cedaredge going for second state title
  • 150: Austin Collins of Wray going for third title
  • 215: Two unbeatens on the year: Carter Stromer of Buena Vista and Anthony Estrada of Burlington

The Bottom Line

This year’s 2A state tournament is defined by depth, parity, and elite individual talent. Highland enters as the favorite, but North Fork, Rocky Ford, and Cedaredge all have championship‑level lineups. With multiple brackets featuring state‑final caliber matchups before Saturday night, fans can expect one of the most competitive tournaments in recent memory.
