Class 2A Boys Basketball Weekly Preview
By Anthony Garcia
This week we look at each league and quickly breakdown the league races & Regionals. All the League Titles but possibly one or two have been given out. We look at every league breakdown what teams can host and what teams are locks for regionals plus who is on the bubble.

3A/2A/1A San Juan League
Nucla (18-0) is your league champion. They have one league game remaining against Dolores and sit with a 4 game lead. Dolores and Ouray finish tied for 2nd Place with Telluride in 4th.
Regional Contenders
Locks
Nucla (2)-1A, Ouray (18)-1A, Dolores (24)
Bubble
Ridgway (32)-2A
Four teams currently are regional contenders in the San Juan League. In Class 1A Nucla and Ouray are both locks for regionals. Both teams will hope to improve their seed or keep it the same. In Class 2A Dolores is a Regional Lock. Dolores has one game remaining against Nucla and regardless of the result they will make regionals. Ridgway is on the bubble. Ridgway is at #32 and sit at .497. They are sitting in pretty good position, sitting .044 ahead of #33 Crested Butte. I believe that as long as Ridgway beats Dove Creek they should get into regionals.

3A/2A/1A Mile High League
Heritage Christian leads the Mile High League currently and sit with zero losses in league play. Heritage Christian can lock up the league title with a win tonight over SkyView Academy. If they lose they can still win the league title with a win over Flatirons Academy in there final game on 2/28. SkyView Academy and Flatirons Academy both sit with 2 losses in league play and both still face Heritage Christian one more time. Front Range Christian sits in 4th place.
Regional Contenders
Locks
Flatirons Academy (4)-1A, Heritage Christian (3), Front Range Christian (9), Dayspring Christian (20), Belleview Christian (25), Union Colony Prep (26), 3A-SkyView Academy (15)
Bubble
Lyons (31)
Eight teams currently are in regional contention for the Mile High League. 7 of the 8 teams are locks for Regionals. In Class 1A Flatirons Academy is in great shape to host a regional as they sit #4. Flatirons Academy should lock up a top 8 spot and probably a top 4 spot with a win against Front Range Christian tonight. In Class 2A Heritage Christian should also host as they sit #3. If they can win 1 of their 2-win games, I believe they host a regional. I do think if they win both, they will keep a top 3 seed. Front Range Christian dropped out of the top 8 and sit very closely behind #8 Merino. Front Range Christian will probably need to win one if not both to try and move back ahead. I do think if Merino wins there league tournament they will probably stay in the #8 spot or Limon who is #10 could jump in. Dayspring Christian, Belleview Christian, and Union Colony Prep are locks for Regionals and the same goes for 3A SkyView Academy. Lyons is the lone team from the Mile High League on the bubble. Lyons is in good shape to make it to regionals sitting at .518 with the #33 team sitting at .495. I believe as long as Lyons can win one of their final two games they get in.

2A Southern Peaks League
The Southern Peaks League Regular Season Crown has been won by the Sanford Mustangs. The SPL also plays a end of season tournament that includes 1A SPL and West Central Teams. Center finished in 2nd place with Trinidad and Crested Butte finishing in 3rd and 4th.
Regional Contenders
Locks
Sanford (2), Center (17), Trinidad (21)
Bubble
Crested Butte (33)
Just 4 teams remain in contention for regionals in the Southern Peaks League. Sanford should host a regional as long as they can get 1 of their final two games. Sanford should keep the #2 overall seed if they win their end of season tournament. Center and Trinidad are locks for regionals and will hope to improve their regional seed. Crested Butte is on the bubble. Crested Butte is .044 behind #32 Ridgway and it will take a lot to move up that much to get into regionals. The biggest bonus for Crested Butte is they still have two games remaining and winning out could get them close as they have both Trinidad and Center on the consolation side of the bracket.

2A Santa Fe League
The Santa Fe League Regular Season ended with Las Animas atop the league standings at 6-1 and have the head-to-head win over Swallows Charter who is also 6-1. What we are not sure is if the Santa Fe League Tournament is what is determined who the League Champion is. Regardless Las Animas finishes in 1st, Swallows in 2nd, and Crowley County in 3rd for the regular season.
Regional Contenders
Locks
Swallows Charter (12), Crowley County (16), Las Animas (19), Hoehne (27), Fowler (28)
5 of the 8 teams in the Santa Fe League are regional contenders. With all 5 regional contenders being locks for Regionals. Fowler is the lone team who could be considered on the bubble, but I believe they are far enough ahead to lock them into regionals. The Santa Fe League won’t have anyone host a regional. Swallows Charter is too far back to just for a top 8 seed.

2A/1A Lower Platte League
Merino won the Lower Platte League Regular Season Title. Merino ran the table, going 5-0 in league play. Haxtun finished in 2nd going 4-1 with Sedgwick County and Holyoke finishing in 3rd both going 2-3. The Lower Platte League will play a crossover tournament with the Union Pacific League.
Regional Contenders
Locks
Merino (8), Haxtun (11), Holyoke (23), 1A-Caliche (24)
Bubble
Akron (30), Sedgwick County (31)
All 6 teams are still in regional contention in the LPAA. Merino is in the hunt to host a regional and sit at #8 currently. They are .0008 ahead of #9 Front Range Christian. Both teams have two games remaining and could come down to who runs the table to host for the final spot. Haxtun and Holyoke are locks for regionals in Class 2A with Caliche also being a lock in Class 1A for regionals. Akron and Sedgwick County are both on the bubble in Class 2A. Akron will have two games remaining. Akron has a must win game against Burlington tomorrow. Sedgwick County will face Haxtun tomorrow and if they fall in that game and face Burlington that will be a must win game. I do believe if Akron and Sedgwick County win at least 1 of their final two games they should get into regionals.

3A/2A Foothills League
Golden View Classical is your Foothills League Champion. Golden View Classical went 10-0 in league play. Twin Peaks Classical finished in second place, both their wins over Golden View Classical were non-league wins. Addenbrooke Classical finished in 3rd Place.
Regional Contenders:
Locks
Twin Peaks Classical (4), Golden View Classical (5), Loveland Classical (29), 3A-Addenbrooke Classical (23)
4 of the 12 teams in the Foothills League are regional contenders. All four teams in the Foothills League are locks for regionals. Twin Peaks Classical and Golden View Classical both have completed regular season play and I do believe both will end inside the top 8 of the CHSAA Seeding Index. Both are far enough ahead of the #9 team.

2A/1A Western Slope League
Vail Christian is your Western Slope League Champion. Vail Christian went 8-0 in league play. Plateau Valley finished in second place going 7-1 with De Beque going 6-2 to finish in 3rd.
Regional Contenders
Locks
Vail Christian (7), Plateau Valley (13), Caprock Academy (18), 1A-De Beque (15)
4 teams out of 9 are currently in the Mix for Regionals in the Western Slope. Vail Christian has a good amount of room between themselves and the #8 and #9 teams in the Seeding Index. Vail Christian probably needs a win in their final two games against 3A Lotus School and 3A Meeker to feel comfortable about staying ahead of those two teams. If Vail Christian drops two games we could see them fall to #9 so things are not locked in with them yet. Plateau Valley, Caprock Academy, and De Beque are locks are regionals.

2A/1A Union Colony Prep League
The Union Colony Prep has been won by the Limon Badgers. Limon has won 6 straight games including upset wins over Byers and Stratton. Limon went 6-0 in league play. Stratton finishes in second place with a 5-1 records and Byers finishes in 3rd place with a 4-2 record.
Regional Contenders
Locks
Byers (5), Limon (10), 1A Stratton (5),
Bubble
1A- Flagler (35)
4 teams out of the 7 teams are in the mix for Regionals in the Union Colony Prep League. In Class 2A, Byers is in very good shape to host a region and are a lock for regionals. Limon also is a lock for regionals sitting at #10. Limon still has an outside shot at hosting a regional and could jump into the top 8 if they can win the LPAA/UPL crossover tournament. In Class 1A Stratton is in very good shape to host a regional and are a lock for regionals. Flagler is the lone team on the Bubble at #35. Flagler is .04 behind #32 Arickaree and looks like Flagler has three games remaining. Flagler will need wins over both Loveland Classical and ECA. It will come down to the wire if Flagler can do enough down the stretch to get into regionals.

2A Black Forest League
The Black Forest League Title will come down to a matchup between Simla (13-3) and Calhan (7-12). These two teams face each other on Friday 2/27. This will be for the league title and the automatic berth.
Regional Contenders:
Locks
Simla (1)
I do believe just Simla will make Regionals from the Black Forest League. If Calhan can upset Simla of course they would get the automatic berth into regionals. Calhan and Liberty Tree in my opinion are way to far back of #32 Ridgway and I do not think can get into regionals as At-Large Berths.

League not Mentioned that have 2A Schools: 2A/1A West Central, 4A/3A/2A Frontier, 2A/1A 5280. Here is a quick look at any teams from leagues not mentioned where their teams sit in the seeding index.
Locks for Regionals
Campion Academy (14)-Independent, I was told they were eligible for post-season play the next question will be will they want to participate in post-season play. If they don’t it changes a lot seeding and who gets into regionals.
Custer County (15)-West Central, are a lock for regionals.
Vanguard Classical East (22)-Independent, they are locks for regionals. Same statement stands from above if they want to participate in post-season play.
