
Class 3A Girls Basketball Weekly Review and Preview

This week is the last week of the regular season! As teams fight for final positions in the CHSAA Seeding Index, we look at the top 8 teams who are looking to host during Regionals next week, and we look at the current last 6 teams inside of the playoff bubble, and the first two teams who are outside, hoping to find a way into the postseason.

Denver Christian
Denver Christian is 21 -1 overall on the season with a 9-0 league record, are 1st in the Metro League and are 1st in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Thunder ended last week with a win over Colorado Academy 51-34 and will be looking to get another win to end the regular season and will play Forge Christian tonight on the road. Next week, the team will be host to a region, and they will be hoping they will remain in the number one spot for the postseason.
Stat leaders for Denver Christian are Natalie Bohannon with 342 points, 189 rebounds and 85 steals, Tenley Fuller with 306 points, 111 assists, 131 rebounds, and 140 steals, Riah Moore with 276 points, 75 assists, and 91 steals, Teagan Fuller with 72 assists, and Addison Ruter with 118 rebounds.
Yuma
The Outlaws are 2nd in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 17-5 overall with a 9-1 league record and are 2nd in the Patriot league. Last week, Yuma got the win over Platte Valley 44-33 and started this week off with a win over Resurrection Christian 33-21. The team will be looking to end the regular season with a win over Wiggins who they will face on 2/28.
Yuma stat leaders are Berkley Nighswonger with 295 points and 106 rebounds, Taryn Sheffield with 227 points, 60 assists, and 64 steals, Carolina Ross with 149 points and 61 steals, Bailey Nighswonger with 35 assists and 127 rebounds, Aubrey Black with 32 assists and 51 steals, and Lauren Gonzales with 119 rebounds.
Colorado Springs Christian
Colorado Springs Chrisitan ended their regular season with an 18-3 overall record, a 12-1 league record and in 2nd in the Tri-Peaks league. The last game of the regular season for the Lions resulted in a win over Banning Lewis Academy 70-14. Now the team will wait and see where their final spot will be but should be hosting a region next week to kick off the postseason.
Stat leaders for the Lions are Rose Ross with 412 points, 82 assists, 95 rebounds and 107 steals, Jordyn Rollins with 371 points, 89 assists, 188 rebounds and 156 steals, Hayley Helwege with 130 points, 47 assists, and 54 steals, and Anna Glojek with 93 rebounds.
Wiggins
Currently at number four in the CHSAA Seeding index, the Tigers are 18-4 overall on the season with a 9-1 league record and are 1st in the Patriot League. Last week, Wiggins was able to get the win over Eaton 29-25 and they started this week off with a win over University 45-42. The team will be looking to end their regular season with a win over Yuma on 2/28 and will be looking to carry that momentum into next week with the start of the postseason.
Stat leaders for Wiggins are Tenleigh Lorenzini with 176 points and 177 rebounds, Karsyn Kerr with 171 points, 38 assists, 106 rebounds, and 53 steals, Jaydin Busch with 121 points and 113 rebounds, Kellie Vicchrilli with 34 assists and 49 steals, and Juliet Leon with 29 assists and 56 steals.
Centauri
Rounding out the top five 3A girls teams in the seeding index, Centauri is currently 18-4 overall on the season with a 10-1 league record and are 1st in the Intermountain league. The Falcons lost last week to Pagos Springs 36-37 but was able to bounce back and get a win over Buena Vista 52-30. The team will be looking to end their regular season with a big win as they take on league opponent Alamosa on 2/27. A win will help the team remain in the top five teams as they enter the postseason.
Stat leaders for the Falcons are Lyndie Sowards with 220 points and 22 steals, Rylie McCarroll with 190 points, 33 assists, and 146 rebounds, Kynlei Curtis with 161 points, 31 assists, 69 rebounds and 18 steals, Paityn Sowards with 41 assists and 38 steals, and Sydney Haslett with 71 rebounds.
Salida
The Spartans are in good hosting position for Regionals in the number 6 spot in the Seeding index. Salida is 18-3 overall on the season with a 13-0 league record and are 1st in the Tri-Peaks league. Last week, the team was able to beat Buena Vista 39-25 and Summit 50-48. The team will be looking to end the regular season on a high note and will look to beat St. Mary’s on 2/27 and hope they remain in their good postseason position.
Leading the Salida stat board are Braeden Johnson with 362 points, 100 assists, 123 rebounds, and 108 steals, Graysa Kindle with 242 points, 33 assists, 204 rebounds and 63 steals, Reagen Osness with 160 points, and Kaija Saari with 36 assists, 82 rebounds, and 48 steals.
Resurrection Christian
The Cougars are currently positioned to be the 7th team to host a region in the postseason. They are 16-6 overall on the season with a 9-1 league record and are 3rd in the Patriot league. Last week the team was able to get a win over Sterling 33-19 but fell this week to Yuma 21-33. Resurrection Christian will be looking to end the regular season on a win and will host University on 2/28 to end the regular season.
Stat leaders for the Cougars are Bethany Vrooman with 364 points, 31 assists, 136 rebounds and 89 steals, Tatum Van Pelt with 251 points, 52 assists, 83 rebounds and 107 steals, Bailey Koning with 136 points, and Jenna Kennedy with 42 assists and 45 steals.
Roaring Fork
Currently the last team in hosting position for Regionals, Roaring Fork is 19-2 overall on the season, 10-2 in league play, are 2nd in the Western Slope league and are 8th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Rams are off to a good start this week, getting a win over Cedaredge 71-44 and will be looking to maintain that momentum as they wrap up the regular season. The teams last two games will be against Grand Valley tonight and Gunnison on 2/28 where the team will be looking to get two wins to ensure they stay in hosting position.
Stat leaders for Roaring Fork are Riley Bevington with 531 points, 68 assists, 168 rebounds and 127 steals, Nikki Tardif with 221 points, 36 assists, 146 rebounds, and 58 steals, Hazel Jenkins with 152 points and 147 rebounds, and Annelise Bumgarner with 53 assists and 57 steals.
Skyview Academy
Sitting at 27 in the CHSAA Seeding Index, Skyview Academy is 13-8 overall on the season, 7-4 in league play and are 5th in the Mile High League. The Hawks lost last week to DCA 32-52 but was able to bounce back this week and get a win over Estes Park 46-30. The team will be looking end their regular season with two more wins on their record and will play Union Colony Prep tonight and Gilpin County on 2/28 and then they will get ready to see where they will travel to for Regionals next week.
Stat leaders for the Hawks are Evelyn Gilbert with 215, 205 rebounds and 29 steals, Ellie McLaughlin with 201 points, 39 assists, 139 rebounds and 36 steals, Maggie Barrett with 183 points, 86 assists, 109 rebounds and 118 steals, and Rome Sauber with 37 assists.
Gunnison
The Cowboys are currently 10-12 overall on the season with a 6-7 league record and are 5th in the Western Slope League. Gunnison ended last week with a win over Aspen 48-9 and a win this week 54-15. They will be looking to carry this momentum into the last game of the regular season as they take on Roaring Fork on 2/28. The team will be looking for a win and will try to take that success into the postseason next week.
Stat leaders for Gunnison are Brooke Terry with 172 points, 20 assists, 70 rebounds and 32 steals, Ashlyn Cowan with 163 points, 60 rebounds and 24 steals, Autumn Terry with 140 points, 26 assists, 56 rebounds, and 45 steals, and Kaylee Vincent with 10 assists.
Middle Park
Middle Park is 29 in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 13-8 overall record, a 5-0 league record and are 2nd in the Frontier league. The Panthers were able to start this week off with a win over Alameda 52-22 and will be looking to continue this momentum as they take on Jefferson Academy today and then end the regular season on the road at The Academy on 2/27. Middle Park will be fighting for wins to remain in the top 30 teams and ensure their spot in the playoffs.
Stat leaders for Middle Park are Sydney Solomon with 245 points, 47 assists, 141 rebounds, and 100 steals, Briell Eaton-Ahrens with 152 points and 71 steals, Jolee Paugh with 94 points, Jessica Kohlwey with 29 assists and 51 steals, Margo Redding with 22 assists and 92 rebounds, and Lauren Bullock with 110 rebounds.
Windsor Charter Academy
Sitting at number 30 in the CHSAA Seeding index, Windsor Charter Academy is 9-13 overall on the season with a 2-8 league record and are 9th in the Patriot league. The Firebirds were able to win their last two games last week, beating Frontier Academy 60-28 and Valley 46-26. The team will be looking to carry that momentum through the remainder of the regular season and will end the year against Strasburg on 2/27 before they hope they remain in the playoff bubble to stay in the postseason.
Leading the stat board for the team are Kylie Smith with 180 points, 40 assists, 96 rebounds and 40 steals, Sadie Curry with 129 points, 62 rebounds, and 55 steals, Miley Hawkins with 116 points, Ella Grasmick with 22 assists and 29 steals, and Emerson Clark with 82 rebounds.
Platte Canyon
The Huskies are 11-9 overall on the season with a 3-1 league record, are 4th in the Frontier league and are close to the edge of the playoff bubble at 31. Platte Canyon was able to win last week, beating Alameda 43-36. The team will be looking to win their last two games of the regular season to secure their spot in the playoffs. These games will be against The Academy tonight and Jefferson Academy on 2/27. Then the team will wait to see where they end up next week in the postseason.
Stat leaders for the Huskies are Brenlee Cole with 122 points and 111 rebounds, Abigail Tomasko with 117 points, 21 assists, 87 rebounds, and 44 steals, Emma Flores with 100 points, 62 assists, 142 rebounds and 61 steals, Cameron Martinez with 26 assists, and Rachael Hayes with 53 steals.
Rye
The last time currently inside of the playoff bubble, Rye sits at 32 in the seeding index with an 8-13 overall record, a 5-8 league record and are 9th in the Tri-Peaks league. The Thunderbolts have one game left on their schedule, and after a 42-46 loss against Crowley County, the team will be looking to get a win over Florence to end the season on 2/27. Then the team will have to wait to see if they remain in the postseason hunt, or if they get bumped out by another team.
Stat leaders for Rye are Taci Ehrlich with 180 points, 52 assists, 84 rebounds and 94 steals, Abrianna Chianelli with 139 points, 151 rebounds, and 45 steals, Shiloh Rutledge with 121 points, 33 assists, and 36 steals, and Reese Simpson with 27 assists and 176 rebounds.
Liberty Common
The Eagles are currently the first team on the outside of the playoff bubble looking in at 33 in the seeding index. The team is 7-15 overall on the season with a 1-9 league record and are 10th in the Patriot league. Last week the team ended on a win over Strasburg 37-29 and will be looking to have that same success this week when they face Fort Morgan on 2/27. Right now the team is hoping a win will help them to jump someone and let them fall inside of the postseason cutoff.
Grand Valley
Grand Valley is currently not in the postseason hunt as they sit 34 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Cardinals are 6-15 overall on the season with a 4-9 league record and are 6th in the Western Slope League. So far this week, the team is 1-1, losing to North Fork 17-51 but beat Moffat County 42-34. The Cardinals will be looking to some success in their last two games to give them hope of falling into the playoff bubble. These games will be against Roaring Fork tonight and Soroco on 2/28.
Leading Grand Valley on the stat board are Taylor Pittman with 263 points, 31 assists, 163 rebounds, and 64 steals, Alexa DeMaio with 169 points, 25 assists, and 41 steals, Paysli Dowd with 60 points, 23 assists, and 32 steals, Keirra Medina with 121 rebounds and Haven Stallings with 75 rebounds.
