
CLASS 1A BOYS BASKETBALL REGIONAL REPORT – THURSDAY

One of the eight regionals in Class 1A boys is getting an early jump on the field, as Region Six, hosted by Prairie, will start play on Thursday. Two of the four teams in the bracket face potential religious restrictions later in the week, so plans are in place to accommodate them, should the need arise.

REGION SIX AT PRAIRIE HS
#6 PRAIRIE (19-4) VS #27 MILE HIGH ACADEMY (11-10) 4:30PM
Prairie backed up its title in the North Central League by winning the championship in last week’s NCL/YWKC crossover. The Mustangs took care of Bethune (59-25) in the opener, and then downed Caliche (49-27) and Otis (47-37) to claim the crown. Prairie enters the postseason having won three straight and 12 of the last 13. Mile High Academy comes in on a three-game slide, the most recent loss coming to Campion Academy 66-51 last Saturday. Prior to that, the Mustangs also had losses to Front Range Baptist (51-35) and Rocky Mountain Lutheran (65-60). Aydin Mao went for 24 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists, and four steals in the latter of those two.
#11 PEETZ (17-6) VS #22 DENVER ACADEMY OF TORAH (11-10) 7:30PM
Peetz took two out of three games at last week’s NCL/YWKC crossover, beating Arickaree/Woodlin 65-29 in the quarterfinals, and then suffering a 57-47 loss to Otis in the semifinals. The Bulldogs rebounded to take third place with a 52-28 win over Caliche. Parker Reker led the way in the third place win with 20 points, and Connor Schumacher added 10. The Wolves won a pair of close games n their final two outings, beating Arma Dei Academy (45-39) and William Smith (43-38). Natan Shafran and Ami Gelman scored 10 points apiece in the earlier of the two wins, and Avi Askenazi had 13 points and 12 rebounds in the latter.
