Class 3A Girls Basketball Postseason Preview

Postseason is here and the competition will be getting more intense. With teams assigned to their region for the first round of the playoffs, we get brief glimpse at all 32 teams that made the postseason and see where they are going, who they play, and the other competitors in their region.

1.Denver Christian Vs 32. Windsor Charter Academy

Sitting at the top of the 3A pack, Denver Christian sits as the number 1 seed with a 22-1 overall record, a 10-0 league record, and secured the 1st place spot in the Metro league. To kick off the postseason, the Thunder will play Windsor Charter Academy. The Firebirds ended their regular season with a 9-14 overall record, a 2-9 league record and finished 9th in the Patriot league. These two teams faced one another at the beginning of the season and Denver Christian got the win 68-38. The Thunder also beat ACA in the first game of the season 54-23 and the Firebirds lost to Wray in the new year 19-54. The winner of this game will move on to play the winner of Wray and ACA to compete for the regional championship and punch their ticket to the State Tournament.

16. Wray Vs. 17. Addenbrooke Classical Academy

Wray enters the postseason as the 16 seed and will start off playing the 17 seed, Addenbrooke Classical Academy. Wray ended their regular season with a 13-10 overall record, a 6-4 league record, in 4th in the Patriot league, and having already faced Windsor Chater Academy, who shares the regional location, and beat them 54-19. ACA comes into the playoffs with a 19-4 overall record with a 7-1 league record, in 2nd in the Foothills league, and having played Denver Christian to start the season which was a loss for ACA 23-54. Wray and ACA have not competed against one another yet this season, but the winner will be looking to beat the winner of Denver Christian and Windsor Charter Academy for a chance to get the regional title and head to the State Tournament.

8. Roaring Fork Vs. 25. Manual

Roaring Fork finished the regular season as the 8 seed and the last team with the honor of hosting. The Rams are 21-2 overall for the regular season with a 12-2 league record and they finished 1st in the Western Slope League. Roaring Fork has not played any of the other teams they are hosting and to start the postseason, the Rams will play the 26 seed, Manual. The Thunderbolts finished the regular season with a 13-7 record, a 7-2 league record and in 3rd in the City league. Manual also has not played the other three teams in the region, so each game will bring a new opponent for these teams. The winner of this game will move on to play the winner of Thomas MacLaren and Strasburg and will look to advance to the State Tournament with a regional title.

9. Thomas MacLaren School Vs. 24. Strasburg

Thomas MacLaren makes the postseason just outside of hosting position at the 9 seed and will be traveling to Roaring Fork to play the 24 seed Strasburg to start the playoffs. The Highlanders ended their regular season with a 20-1 overall record, a 1-0 league record and in 1st in the 3A/2A Black Forest league. Strasburg enters the postseason with an 11-12 overall record, a 6-7 league record and in 7th in the Patriot league. These two teams have not played one another, or the other teams sharing the region, but the winner of this game will be looking to beat the winner of Roaring Fork and Manual to punch their ticket to the State Tournament.

4. Centauri Vs 29. Liberty Common

Centauri is the host of their region this year after finishing the season as the 4 seed with a 1904 overall record, an 11-1 league record and in 1st in the Intermountain League. For the first round of regionals, the Falcons will take on Liberty Common who is the 29 seed and has an 8-15 overall record, a 2-9 league record, and finished 10th in the Patriot league to end the regular season. Centauri has not faced Liberty Common, Forge Christian, or Platte Valley yet this season, but Liberty Common did lose to Platte Valley earlier in the season 27-55. The winner of this game will move on to play the winner of Forge Christian and Platte Valley for a chance to win the regional title and advance to the State Tournament.

13. Forge Christian Vs. 20. Platte Valley

Forge Christian begins the playoffs in the 13 seed with a 15-8 overall record for the regular season, a 7-3 league record, and the finished 4th in the Metro league. Forge Christian will be playing Platte Valley in the first round of regionals. Platte Valley comes into the postseason 12-11 with a 5-5 league record and in 6th in the Patriot league. These teams faced off earlier in the season with Platte Valley getting the edge over Forge Christian 43-36. Platte Valley also played and beat Liberty Common earlier in the season 55-27. The winner of this game will be looking to beat the winner of Centauri and Liberty Common to get their ticket to the State Tournament.

5. Salida Vs 28. SkyView Academy

Salida ends their regular season as the 5 seed with a 20-3 overall record, a 15-0 league record and in 1st in the Tri-Peaks league. In the first round of the playoffs, the Spartans will be playing SkyView Academy. The Hawks are 13-10 overall after the regular season with a 7-4 league record and they finished 5th in the Mile High league. These two teams have not faced-off with one another or the other teams in the region, Meeker and Highland, yet this season. The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of Meeker and Highland for the regional title and the chance to compete at the State Tournament.

12. Meeker Vs. 21. Highland

Meeker starts the playoffs at the 12 seed after ending the regular season with a 17-5 overall record, an 11-3 league record and in 3rd in the Western Slope League. To start their postseason, the Cowboys will play Highland in Salida. The Huskies come into the postseason with a 12-11 overall record, a 6-6 league record and in 5th in the Patriot league. All of these teams are new opponents to one another and the winner of this game will move on to play the winner of Salida and SkyView Academy for the regional title and the chance to compete at the State Tournament.

2. Wiggins Vs. 31. Platte Canyon

Wiggins ends the regular season in the number 2 seed with a 19-4 overall record, a 9-1 league record and in 1st in the Patriot league. The Tigers are host to their region which includes their first opponent, Platte Canyon, as well as St. Mary’s and Monte Vista. Platte Canyon comes into the postseason with a 12-10 overall record, a 3-1 league record and in 4th in the Frontier league. These teams have not played each other or the other teams on their region, but the winner of this game will advance to play the winner of St. Mary’s and Monte Vista for the regional title and the ticket to the State Tournament.

15. St. Mary’s Vs 18. Monte Vista

St. Mary’s starts their postseason as the 15 seed and on the road to Wiggins to face the 18 seed Monte Vista. St. May’s ended the regular season 14-9 overall, 10-4 in league play and in 4th in the Tri-Peaks League. Monte Vista wrapped up their regular season with a 12-10 overall record, a 6-6 league record, and in 4th in the Intermountain league. These teams have not played the other teams in the region. The winner of this game will advance to the regional championship against the winner of Wiggins and Platte Canyon for the chance to play at the State Tournament next week.

7. Resurrection Christian Vs. 26 Peyton

Sitting in the 7th seed, Resurrection secured their postseason spot with a 16-7 overall record, a 9-1 league record, 3rd in the Patriot league, and as the host to their region. To start their postseason journey, Resurrection Christian will play the 26 seed Peyton. Peyton ended their regular season with a 13-10 overall record, a 0-1 league record and 2nd in the Black Forest league. Resurrection Christian and Peyton has not competed this season, but Resurrection Christian beat Brush earlier this season 64-24 and Peyton lost to North Fork 20-58. The winner of this first round will advance to play the winner of North Fork and Brush for the regional title and their ticket to the State Tournament.

10. North Fork Vs. 23. Brush

North Fork enters the playoffs as the 10 seed with 20-3 overall record, a 12-2 league record and in 2nd in the Western Slope League. The Miners were able to beat Peyton 58-20  and will be looking forward to getting a win over Brush. Brush comes into the postseason with a 13-10 overall record, a 5-6 league record and are 8th in the Patriot league. Brush lost to the regional host Resurrection Christian earlier in the season 24-64. The winner of this game will play the winner of Resurrection Christian and Peyton for a chance to win the regional title and get a chance to play at the State Tournament.

3. Yuma Vs. 30. Middle Park

Yuma enters the postseason as the host to the region with the 3 seed, a 17-6 overall record, a 9-1 league record and in 2nd in the Patriot league. Yuma will be hosting Middle Park, who is their first postseason opponent, as well as Cedaredge and The Vanguard School, who they beat earlier in the season 53-28. The 30 seed, Middle Park, comes into the postseason with a 14-9 overall record, a 5-0 league record and in 2nd in the Frontier league. The Panthers have not played any of the teams in their region yet this season and will be facing Yuma in the first round. The winner of this game will move on to play the winner of Cedaredge and The Vanguard School the regional title.

14. Cedaredge Vs. 19. The Vanguard School

Cedaredge comes into the playoffs as the 14 seed with a 16-7 overall record, a 9-5 league record and are 4th in the Western Slope League. They will be kicking off the first round of the playoffs by playing the 19 seed The Vanguard School. The Coursers are 11-9 overall in the regular season with an 8-5 league record and 5th in the Tri-Peaks league. The Vanguard School faced Yuma in the beginning of the season and lost 28-53. The winner of this game will move on and play the winner of Yuma and Middle Park for a chance to play for the regional title and the opportunity to go to the State Tournament.

6. Colorado Springs Christian Vs. 27. Gunnison

Colorado Springs Christian finishes their regular season in the 6 seed with a 19-4 overall record, a 12-2 league record, and in 2nd in the Tri-Peaks league. The Lions will be hosting Gunnison, Buena Vista, who they beat 66-20 and lost to 28-30, and the Lyons Lions. The first round of regionals, CSC will play Gunnison. Gunnison wrapped up their regular season with a 10-13 overall record, a 6-8 league record and 5th in the Western Slope League. The winner of this first game will move on to play the winner of Buena Vista and Lyons for the chance to play for the regional title and heir ticket to the State Tournament.

11. Buena Vista Vs. 22. Lyons

Buena Vista ends the regular season as the 11 seed and will travel to Colorado Springs Christian to face Lyons. The Demons are 17-6 overall in the regular season with a 12-3 league record and they ended 3rd in the Tri-Peaks league. Lyons ended their regular season with a 15-7 overall record, an 8-3 league record and in 3rd in the Mile High League. Buena Vista played Colorado Springs Christian twice this season and lost 20-66 and won 30-28. The winner of Buena Vista and Lyons will move one to play the winner of Colorado Springs Christian and Gunnison for a chance to win the regional title and earn their spot at the State Tournament.
