Class 1A Boys State Tournament Predictions
We are a few days from the State Tournament kicking off. We will have predictions out Today. I will give my predictions for all 4 Classes boys and girls. Wednesday we will preview Class 1A thru 3A Boys & Girls. If you would like to share your predictions, I would love to see everyone’s thoughts. Also, remember we are not cheering against any team, this is something we have done since we started the website, and we are wrong all the time!
Class 1A Boys State Tournament Predictions
Elite 8 Predictions
#1 McClave over #8 Elbert
Two teams who reached the State Tournament last year and faced off in the Elite 8 a year ago. McClave has won 14 straight games since there 5-point loss to Stratton back in late January. McClave dominated at regionals and have some momentum to defend their state title. Elbert was tested in their regional final against a very good Otis team. Elbert got the 64-59 OT win over Otis. Elbert will look to avenge their loss to McClave during the Elite 8 last year.
#5 Stratton over #4 Flatirons Academy 2nd Best Match of Opening Round
This should be an amazing matchup in the opening round. Flatirons Academy took care of business during regionals and defeated Holly by 20 points in the regional finals. Flatirons Academy will look to use their size against Stratton and played a tough schedule this season. Stratton has won 4 straight games coming into the state tournament but were tested by Sangre De Cristo in the regional finals. Stratton will face a whole different opponent when they square off with Flatirons Academy.
#10 Sierra Grande over #2 Nucla Best Match of the Opening Round
It could be the best matchup of the first round but honestly all 4 games should be good! This is not a true #2 vs #10 matchup. Nucla has ran the table and have only been tested a few times during the regular season including a 1-point win over Sangre De Cristo, 11-point win over Plateau Valley in February, and an 8-point win over Ouray. Nucla has not had any state tournament experience in the last 4 years. Sierra Grande comes in with a lot of momentum and plenty of state tournament experience. Sierra Grande pulled the upset of the #7 seed plus played well against 2A #1 Sanford falling by just 3. I expect this to be a great game to end the night.
#3 Cheyenne Wells over #6 Prairie 3rd Best Match of Opening Round
Another Great Matchup in the Elite 8. Cheyenne Wells comes into the State Tournament with a lot of experience and winners of 4 straight games. Cheyenne Wells last lost to McClave in late February. Cheyenne Wells was tested in their regional finals game and look for their experience to help them against Prairie. Prairie has been ranked almost all season and their last loss came to Denver Jewish Day back in the middle of February. Prairie ended the year with a key win over Otis and then held off Peetz during the regional finals.

Semifinal Round
#1 McClave over #5 Stratton
#3 Cheyenne Wells over #10 Sierra Grande
Championship Saturday
#1 McClave over #3 Cheyenne Wells (State Championship)

#4 Flatirons Academy over #2 Nucla (5th Place Game)
I think we are in for some AMAZING games In the Class 1A. I can easily make a case for 6 of the 8 teams to win a state championship and even then, I think all 8 teams are well rounded and will make for some competitive games. I am very excited to see how everything boils down and I could easily see myself being way wrong, but I am excited for 3 great days of basketball.
