Class 2A Girls State Tournament Predictions

We are a few days from the State Tournament kicking off.  We will have predictions out Today, Tomorrow and Wednesday.  I will give my predictions for all 4 Classes boys and girls.  Wednesday we will preview Class 1A thru 3A Boys & Girls.  If you would like to share your predictions, I would love to see everyone’s thoughts.  Also, remember we are not cheering against any team, this is something we have done since we started the website, and we are wrong all the time!

Class 2A Boys State Tournament Predictions

Elite 8 Predictions

#1 Merino over #8 Akron 3^rd Best Game of the Elite 8

Any time you have a league matchup in the State Tournament expect the unexpected.  Merino comes into the matchup winning 10 straight games and their last loss was to #2 Simla.  Merino last defeated Akron on 2/12 with Merino winning 61 to 28.  Akron was able to advance to the state tournament taking care of business with a pair of 20+ points wins over Soroco and James Irwin.  Akron will look to pull the biggest upset if they can knock off #1 Merino.

#4 Sargent over #5 Sedgwick County Best Game of the Elite 8

This in my opinion is the best matchup of the first round.  Two teams who have been here before and two teams who want to advance.  Sargent comes into the matchup taking care of both regional opponents by 20+ points and played well against #3 Sanford falling to them by just 5.  Sedgwick County also defended their home court at regionals winning both games by 20+ points.  Sedgwick County vs Sargent will be must see basketball at 8:45am.

#2 Simla over #7 Heritage Christian

Simla made quick work of their regional opponents defeating both by 30+ points.  Simla has run the table so far including key wins over Merino, Salida, and McClave along the way.  Simla will look to make a deep run this season.  Heritage Christian played well at regionals defeating a tough Holyoke team in the regional finals by 30 points.  Heritage Christian has won 10 straight games with their last loss coming to Sedgwick County back in early February. 

#3 Sanford over #6 Plateau Valley 2^nd Best Game of the Elite 8

Another great matchup in the Elite 8.  Sanford comes into this matchup with a 23-1 record and winners of 11 straight games.   Sanford lone loss is to 3A #4 Centauri.  Sanford was tested by Swink in the regional finals with Sanford getting the 46-26 win.  Sanford will face another team with size and interesting to see how they handle the size of Plateau Valley.  Plateau Valley was tested in their regional final game by Del Norte but escaped with the 39 to 27 win.  Plateau Valley has now won 7 of their last 8 games with their last two losses coming to 3A Cedaredge and Rangely.

#5 Sedgwick County over #8 Akron

#6 Plateau Valley over #7 Heritage Christian

Semifinal Round

#1 Merino over #4 Sargent

#2 Simla over #3 Sanford

Championship Saturday

#2 Simla over #1 Merino (State Championship)

#3 Sanford over #4 Sargent (3^rd Place)

#5 Sedgwick County over #6 Plateau Valley (5^th Place)

I think we are in for some AMAZING games In the Class 1A.  I can easily make a case for 6 of the 8 teams to win a state championship and even then, I think all 8 teams are well rounded and will make for some competitive games.  I am very excited to see how everything boils down and I could easily see myself being way wrong, but I am excited for 3 great days of basketball.  Remember to follow our Facebook Page, Instagram, X and Website for the scores of the games plus we plan on having pictures posted on Facebook & Instagram.  Good Luck to all teams.
