Class 2A Baseball League Breakdown
District 1
District 1 is all wrapped up in terms of seeding for the District Tournament. Sargent has locked up the #1 seed and Center has locked up the #2 seed. Sargent and Center will not have to play the play in games and will be waiting to see who they play. RPI numbers for District 1 are:
#10 Sargent, #20 Center, #28 Sanford
Currently only Sargent is in the Top 16 of the RPI and they look solid to make regionals even without the District title. Sanford only hopes to make it to Regionals is by winning the District Championship. Center RPI has improved and are now sitting at #20. Center has 1 final game against Monte Vista and this has turned into a must win in terms of RPI. Center will need help from other teams as well to make a run for the #16 spot. Center will need to get to at least the District Championship to have a shot at Regionals.
District 2
Sedgwick County is your #1 seed for the District Tournament. Yuma is your #2 seed. The #3 and #4 seeds are still up in the air, but they will go to either Wiggins or Haxtun depending on the results of the upcoming games. The RPI numbers for District 2 are:
#2 Sedgwick County, #8 Yuma, #17 Haxtun, #22 Wiggins, #25 Holyoke, #30 Wray
Currently Sedgwick County and Yuma look like locks for Regionals. Haxtun and Wiggins are still in the hunt for the #16 spot. Haxtun is #17 and must avoid any bad losses. Haxtun is only .007 behind #16 so winning the games they are supposed to should keep them in the running for that spot. Wiggins will need to pull a couple upsets to make a run. Holyoke and Wray will need district championships to get to Regionals.
District 4
District 4 is a mix of a couple leagues. I am not sure how they are going to seed the District 4 bracket, but I am guessing either RPI or a mix of head to heads wins. If you use RPI the seeding for the District Tournament would be: #1 Limon, #2 Front Range Christian, #3 Burlington, #4 Denver Christian, #5 Denver Academy, #6 Byers. Limon and Front Range Christian would also receive byes from the play-in games and await the winners for the Semifinals. RPI numbers for District 4 are:
#3 Limon, #13 Front Range Christian, #18 Burlington, #31 Denver Christian
Limon currently is the only team who can feel safe about regionals in District 4. Front Range Christian is #13 and are still on the bubble. Front Range Christian has 3 games remaining two of which will help their RPI. Burlington is #18 and are on the outside looking in. Burlington has two games remaining that they cannot afford to lose. Burlington will need a good showing in the District Tournament as well to make a run for the last spot. Denver Christian is #31 in the RPI and will need a district Championship to get into regionals.
District 3/5
With my confusion of District 3/5 cleared and only 1 automatic berth is given away. Hotchkiss is in the driver seat. Hotchkiss beat Paonia 1-0 in the league game and now hold the lead for the #1 seed. Hotchkiss still has 1 league game remaining against Meeker and that will be for the District Championship. If Hotchkiss wins they get the #1 seed but if Meeker wins then it’s a three way tie for the #1 seed and tie-breaker rules will be used. Paonia is in second place and have the head to head over Meeker. Paonia is done with league games and is waiting for results. RPI numbers for District 3/5 are:
#4 Paonia, #7 Hotchkiss, #19 Meeker, #27 Dolores
Currently Paonia and Hotchkiss look like locks for Regionals. Meeker is #19 in the RPI and just on the outside. Meeker has 3 games remaining against Roaring Fork and Hotchkiss twice. Meeker would feel much better winning 2 of their final 3 games. If Meeker goes 0-3 in their final 3 games then a good showing in District is a must. Meeker controls their own destiny. Dolores needs a district title to get into regionals.
District 6
District 6 has been very competitive so far. Rocky Ford is your #1 seed but after that you need a cypher to figure everything out. Currently 3 teams sit at 6-4 and one team is 4-6 who are all looking at seeding for the District tournament. County Line has the head to head over Fowler. County Line plays Crowley County in their final game and needs a sweep to keep their hopes alive for the #2 seed. County Line split with Swink but lost by more the second game. Swink has the head to head over Fowler, Crowley County, and County Line. Swink plays Las Animas in their final game and a sweep locks up the #2 seed. Fowler is in a much tougher spot. Fowler plays Rocky Ford in their final 2 games and if they don’t at least split with Rocky Ford then they will finish 5th if I have the tiebreakers correct. Fowler with a split against Rocky Ford locks up at least the #4 seed. Crowley County is hoping for Fowler to get swept to move up 1 spot to the #4 seed. RPI numbers for District 6 are:
#6 Rocky Ford, #15 Swink, #23 County Line, #26 Fowler, #29 Crowley County
Rocky Ford is the only team in District 6 who is a lock for regionals. Swink is #15 in the RPI and just holding onto the spot. Swink to feel more comfortable needs to sweep Las Animas and have a decent showing at the District Tournament. County Line needs quite a bit to make a run for the #16 spot. County Line needs to sweep Crowley County and then must reach the District Championship. County Line may need a District Championship to get into Regionals. Fowler and Crowley County will both need District Championship to get into Regionals.
District 7
District 7 also is a mix of a few leagues. I am not sure how they will seed their District Tournament but currently just off the standings Dayspring Christian is your #1 seed wrapping up the #1 seed when they beat Highland 14-1. Dayspring Christian has a non-league game remaining against Peyton. Lyons, Dawson School, and Highland all have 2 losses. Lyons is done with league games and now just waits. Lyons has the head to head over Dawson School but not Highland. Highland and Dawson play each other on 5/5 and that game could determine a lot for league standings. If Highland beats Dawson then Highland finishes second, Lyons third, and Dawson fourth. If Dawson beat Highland then Lyons finishes second, Dawson third, and Highland 4th. RPI numbers for District 7 are:
#11 Lyons, #12 Dayspring Christian, #14 Dawson School, #16 Highland, #33 Clear Creek
District 7 does not have a team that can really feel comfortable. Lyons and Dayspring Christian are both near locks for Regionals but must take care of business in their final games. Dawson School and Highland are both in the Top 16 but are both on the bubble. These two teams play each other as well and could help determine the RPI order in that game as well. Clear Creek needs a district championship to get into regionals.
District 8
District 8 has your #1 seed and that goes to Peyton. The #2 seed will have to be broken by tiebreaker rules which I believe is head to head scores which give ECA the #2 seed over Calhan. ECA has to play Dolores Huerta still and needs to win both to lock up the #2 seed. Calhan plays Simla in their final game and must win to keep their hopes alive for the #2 seed. I am not sure on the tiebreaker rule, so things could be different. RPI numbers for District 8 are:
#1 Peyton, #5 Evangelical Christian, #9 Calhan, #20 Ellicott, #24 Dolores Huerta
Peyton, Evangelical Christian, and Calhan are all locks for regionals. Ellicott is #20 and needs some help in their final 2 games. Ellicott plays Peyton tomorrow and an upset win would shoot them up the RPI. Ellicott will not get help in their final game so a good showing in the District tournament will be a must. Dolores Huerta will need a District Championship to get into Regionals.
