Boys Basketball District Tournament Predictions Class 1A

District tournament are underway, and most District have trimmed their fields down to 4 teams.  I will be picking the rest of the District tournament and pick the teams I think we qualify for Districts.

District 1 (Only qualifies 2 teams)

#1 De Beque

#2 Ouray

Not much has changed for District 1.  I have picked the same two teams since I started doing District predictions.  De Beque and Ouray have bye’s in the first round and wait to see who they play.  Dove Creek could give Ouray a tough game.

District 2

#1 Cheraw

#2 Kit Carson

#3 McClave

We are down to four teams and some interesting semifinal matchups.  Cheraw plays Granada and McClave plays Kit Carson.  I think Cheraw will get past Granada but the one game I am unsure of is McClave vs Kit Carson.  McClave beat Kit Carson during the regular season.  I think it will be tough for McClave to beat Kit Carson again and I am picking Kit Carson to move into the District Championship.  I am sticking with Cheraw to win the District with Kit Carson finishing second.  I am picking McClave to win the third place game over Granada to also qualify for Regionals.

District 3

#1 Walsh

#2 Springfield

#3 Kim/Branson

Wiley upset South Baca in the Quarterfinal game.  With that upset Wiley still has two win at least one more game to qualify for regionals.  Walsh plays Wiley and Kim/Branson plays Springfield.  I think Walsh moves past Wiley and I am going with Springfield to beat Kim/Branson.  I do think Walsh will win this District with Springfield finishing second.  I do think Kim/Branson beats Wiley to snag third and advance to regionals.

District 4

#1 Prairie

#2 Peetz

#3 Merino

District 5 is down to 4 teams and the seeding of the District tournament had some very interesting matchups.  Merino and Caliche who play 2A league schedule both pulled upsets in the quarterfinals.  Peetz plays Merino which is a rematch of a 1-point game earlier in the year and Prairie plays Caliche.  I am picking Prairie to beat Caliche but should be a very good game.  I am also going with Peetz over Merino but Peetz will have to play a very good game to avoid being upset.  In the District Championship I am going with Prairie over Peetz in another great rematch.  In the third-place game I am going with Merino over Caliche to qualify for regionals.

District 5

#1 Haxtun

#2 Arickaree/Woodlin

#3 Otis

Last night District 5 was trimmed down to 4 teams with all 4 top seeds advancing to the semifinals.  Arickaree/Woodlin plays Stratton/Liberty and Haxtun faces Otis.  Stratton/Liberty upset Arickaree/Woodlin during the regular season and will be looking for another upset.  Haxtun and Otis is also a rematch that Haxtun won by 12 but that was without Cullen Glosson for Otis.  This time around I am going with Arickaree/Woodlin over Stratton/Liberty and Haxtun over Otis.  In the championship I am going with Haxtun over Arickaree/Woodlin.  Haxtun is playing pretty good basketball and nearly upset 2A #1 Yuma.  In the third-place game I am going with Otis over Stratton/Liberty.  Now that Otis is fully healthy they have been tough to beat.

District 6

#1 Sangre De Cristo

#2 Creede

#3 Sierra Grande

The top 4 seeds all advanced into the semifinals.  Sangre De Cristo plays Primero and Creede plays Sierra Grande.  Sangre De Cristo is playing really good basketball and seem to be peaking at just the right time.  I am going with Sangre De Cristo over Primero.  Creede vs Sierra Grande is a rivalry game and should be a good game.  I am going with Creede in this game.  Creede seems to have figured things out.  In the championship I am going with Sangre De Cristo over Creede and in the third place game I am going with Sierra Grand over Primero.

District 7 (Only 2 teams make it to Regionals)

#1 Evangelical Christian

#2 Genoa-Hugo

District 7 has turned into a very exciting race for the two spots at regionals.  ECA plays Pikes Peak Christian and Genoa-Hugo plays Kiowa.  I am going with ECA over Pikes Peak Christian.  ECA is playing good basketball and have dominated in 2019.  The game to watch is Genoa-Hugo vs Kiowa.  Kiowa beat Genoa-Hugo during the regular season and the rematch will be another great matchup.  This time I am going with Genoa-Hugo in the rematch but will be a great game.

District 8

#1 Cornerstone Christian

#2 Front Range Baptist

#3 Mile High Academy

District 8 nearly was turned upside down when Cornerstone Christian avoided the upset beating Belleview Christian by 1.  This time around I am putting Front Range Baptist on upset alert with their game against Denver Waldorf.  Denver Waldorf is playing well beating Denver Jewish Day by 11.  I am still going with Front Range Baptist but an upset could happen here.  Cornerstone Christian faces Mile High Academy and should be a good game.  I am going with Cornerstone Christian in this game.  In the championship I am going with Cornerstone Christian over Front Range Baptist and Mile High Academy over Denver Waldorf.
