6-Man League Breakdown (All Leagues)

I am just including all leagues for the 6-man breakdown.  This will probably be a longer article, but I will try and trim down the article to keep it from being over 6000 words.

Central League

The Central League had some solid competition within their league but just one team qualified for the playoffs.  I think the Central league could be a bit more competitive with a lot of teams playing younger players last year.  Hanover went 3-6 last year and 1-3 in league and finished 4th place.  They took a step back last year struggling a bit and are losing 6 seniors from last years team.  The upcoming seniors and juniors will have to step up this coming year to help Hanover improve.  Hanover will return starting QB Dalton Sweazy who had a solid freshman year.  Hanover will have to replace their #1 and #2 rushers but look for David Brown to step up this year.  Defensively Hanover will return 4 of their top 8 tacklers but lose 4 of their top 5.  Christopher Peach will have to step up and become a leader for Hanover.  It may be one more year before Hanover truly challenges again for the Central title, but we will see how this group does.  Edison went 4-4 last year and 2-2 in league.  Edison did not post any stats.  Edison will be losing 4 seniors from last years team of 10.  Edison also may not have any seniors on the roster this year with mostly sophomore and freshman on the roster.  We will see how Edison looks this year.  Edison could be a team to watch in 2020.  Deer Trail went 6-2 last year and 3-1 in league but missed the playoffs.  Deer Trail played a weak schedule plus a loss to Weldon Valley probably kept Deer Trail out of the playoffs.  Deer Trail will be losing 3 seniors from last years team.  They were an OL/DL, FB/MLB, and C/DE so this team should remain competitive.  Zach Fussell, Daniel Maldonado, and Aldo Dominguez will look to start on the offensive line.  Deer Trail will be returning some key offensive pieces with QB Kolter Eldringhoff coming back.  Eldringhoff threw for 1142 yards 27 TDs and just 6 INTs his development will be key for Deer Trail.  Walker Morelock also will return for Deer Trail as the #1 rusher.  Deer Trail offense could really take big step this year.  Defensively Deer Trail loses just 2 of their top 8 tacklers.  Walker Morelock was the leading tackler last year and he will be crucial again this year.  Deer Trail will have a shot at the league and playoffs this year.  Genoa-Hugo went 5-4 last year and 4-0 in league to make the playoffs.  Genoa-Hugo will be looking for a deeper run this year and losing just 2 seniors will help.  The two seniors graduating were a TE/DE and Greg Tidquist who played QB.  Genoa-Hugo will return the rest of their team.  The QB position will be the biggest thing to replace and look for a QB battle between Colby Simmons and Levi Miller.  At RB Genoa-Hugo returns their top two rusher in Wyatt Miller and Colby Simmons.  This offense could really be dangerous this year but the QB position must be filled.  Defensively Genoa-Hugo returns 6 of their top 8 tacklers.  Wyatt Miller, Levi Miller, and Colby Simmons all return as the top 3 tacklers.  Genoa-Hugo is the early favorite to win the Central League and make the playoffs.  After looking over everything my predictions for league are: 1st Genoa-Hugo, 2nd Deer Trail, 3rd Edison, 4th Hanover

My predictions for the Central League

League Champion: Genoa-Hugo

Playoff Contenders: Genoa-Hugo and Deer Trail

Dark Horse: Edison (We don’t know a ton about Edison so they could push for a playoff spot or even challenge for a league crown.)

Player of the League: RB/LB Walker Morelock Deer Trail

Others to watch for: RB Wyatt Mileer Genoa-Hugo, QB Kolter Eldringhoff Deer Trail, RB/QB Colby Simmons Genoa-Hugo, QB Dalton Sweazy Hanover, David Brown Hanover, QB/S Levi Miller Genoa-Hugo

East-Central League

The East Central League is loaded with talent this year and the defending State Champions in it.  The East Central League last year had all 5 teams make the playoffs and at least every team had 4 wins.  Watch out for this league again this year and I think at least 4 teams have a shot at the playoffs if not all 5.  Flagler/Hi Plains went 4-6 last year and 0-4 in league but a win over Briggsdale to end the year got them into the playoffs and gain valuable playoff experience.  Flagler/Hi Plains will be losing 9 seniors from last year’s team, but I think this team does more reloading than rebuilding this year.  Looking over the skill positions Flagler/Hi Plains is coming back loaded with QB Zayd Banks returning and back up QB Chris Hile returning.  The RB position will be looking for new leaders and I think Chris Hile will be looked upon to fill the hole along with Cody Banks.  Defensively Flagler/Hi Plains returns 4 of their top 8 tacklers including their top 3.  Chris Hile, Zayd Banks, and Cody Banks all return to lead this defense.  I see Flagler/Hi Plains taking a step in the right direct again this year.  I am not sure if Flagler/Hi Plains will win the league this year but look out for 2020 where I think Flagler/Hi Plains will be in the running for it all.  Idalia went 4-6 last year and 1-3 in league.  Idalia played a brutal schedule last year and that helped them get into the playoffs.  Idalia will be looking for a deeper run this year in the playoffs but some key pieces must be replaced.  Idalia is losing 5 seniors from last year’s team and I am guessing probably a Center or guard will have to be replaced.  Idalia will be returning QB Dax Towns who threw for 676 yards and 10 TDs but must lower the INT numbers.  The biggest loss for Idalia will be at RB with Sam McGinnis graduating.  Yahir Enriquez played well last year rushing for 800 yards and look for a break out year for the RB this year.  Defensively Idalia will be returning 5 of their top 8 tacklers.  Leadership will have to be replaced and look for Caleb Wingfield and Jace Juhnke to fill that role.  Idalia I think also will be in the hunt for a playoff spot and I really think if Idalia wants a deep run in the playoffs this could be their last big push for it.  Otis went 7-4 last year and 2-2 in league to reach the playoffs.  Otis reached the quarterfinals where they lost a shootout with Peetz 84-78.  Otis was a great offensive team last year scoring 594 points but are losing a good senior class.  Otis is losing 6 seniors from last years team with many of the starting or in key roles.  The QB position will have to be filled this year with both QB’s graduating.  Tyler Reynolds is listed as the QB and will look to fill the hole at that position.  #1 rusher Bryce Miracle is also gone but I see Christian Nation having a breakout year this year.  James Collins also will be productive at RB.  Otis defensively was not good last year, and they looked to just outscore their opponents.  Leading tackler Christian Nation does return for Otis along with 4 of their top 8 tacklers.  This unit will have to be better this year until the offense can get going.  Otis, I think will be slow at the beginning of the year with most of the offensive talent graduating.  I think Otis can still challenge for a playoff spot.  Arickaree/Woodlin went 8-3 last year and 3-1 in league.  Arickaree/Woodlin peaked at the right times last year beating Otis and North Park to end the year.  Once in the playoffs Arickaree/Woodlin reach the semifinals before falling to Kit Carson 44-14.  Arickaree/Woodlin did not post stats for last year but are losing 5 seniors.  I am guessing they will be looking to replace their QB and top two rushers.  We will see how the younger kids do this year.  Stratton/Liberty is your defending state champion.  Stratton/Liberty went 12-1 last year and 4-0 in league.  Stratton/Liberty had a few sirens go off losing their final game of the year but dominated in the playoffs winning all 4 games by 35+ points.  Stratton/Liberty is losing an excellent senior class with 5 seniors graduating.  The 5 seniors offensively were a QB, RB, RB, TE, and RB so some key skill positions must be filled.  At QB look for Zeke Craig to move into the starting role.  He threw 3 TDs last year.  The RB position won’t be as hard to fill but depth is what is leaving.  #2 and #3 rusher both graduate.  Jaret Lichty will return as the #1 rusher and he had a great sophomore year rushing for 1450 yards.  Expect another big year for the RB.  #4 rusher Riggin Williams also returns for Stratton/Liberty and he will be expected to have a much bigger role.  Stratton/Liberty defense I think was hit the hardest by graduation with 5 of their top 8 tacklers graduating including 3 of their top 5.  Joey Lichty and Trevor Frank will have some big shoes to fill this year, but I think this defense should still be solid.  I don’t see Stratton/Liberty taking to much of a step back this year and I think still compete for a league title and push for a deep run in the playoffs.  1st Stratton/Liberty, 2nd Idalia, 3rd Flagler/Hi Plains, 4th Otis, 5th Arickaree/Woodlin

My predictions for the East-Central League

League Champion: Stratton/Liberty

Playoff Contenders: Stratton/Liberty, Idalia, Flagler/Hi Plains, Otis, Arickaree/Woodlin

Dark Horse: Idalia (Idalia lose some key players from last years team but a big upcoming senior class could have them poised for a push at the league title and possibly a deep run in the playoffs.)

Player of the League: RB/LB Jaret Lichty Stratton/Liberty

Others to watch for: RB/LB Christian Nation Otis, QB Dax Towns Idalia, QB Zayd Banks Flagler/Hi Plains, RB Yahir Enriquez Idalia, QB/RB Chris Hile Flagler/Hi Plains, QB Zeke Craig Stratton/Liberty, RB Cody Banks Flagler/Hi Plains, RB/LB Riggin Williams Stratton/Liberty, DL Trevor Frank Stratton/Liberty,

North League

The North League is once again loaded with talent and the battle for the league title this year will be a fun race to watch.  3 teams from the North qualified for the playoffs and I think this year 3 or more is possible yet again.  Weldon Valley went 2-6 last year and 0-5 in league.  Weldon Valley is losing 6 seniors from last years team of a roster of 11 but looks like Weldon Valley had 10 kids out to help replace those seniors.  Weldon Valley will have just 2 seniors this year.  Weldon Valley will be looking for a new QB but will return #1 rusher Junior Flores.  Defensively Weldon Valley is in much better shape return 4 of their 8 top tacklers but replacing the senior leadership will be key.  Weldon Valley I think will compete much better in 2020 especially with the younger amount of kids playing.  Briggsdale went 3-6 last year and 1-4 in league.  I thought Briggsdale would be a team to really watch for last year but 3 straight losses to end the year cost them a shot in the playoffs.  Briggsdale will be looking to get back to the playoffs but replacing 8 seniors won’t be easy.  6 upcoming seniors will look to fill holes left by the senior class and I think Briggsdale will just reload and push for the playoffs.  QB Tyler Blickem returns for his senior year and Blickem had a great year throwing for 2368 yards and 36 TDs.  #2 rusher Kaleb Brown and #3 rusher Luke Stewart also both return to help this potent offense.  Top target Zach Bauer also returns for Briggsdale.  Defensively Briggsdale will look to improve this year.  Briggsdale will have some holes to fill but returning 5 of their top 8 tacklers will help.  Leadership will need to be found with their top 3 tacklers graduating.  Briggsdale I think can really push for a playoff spot this year and try and challenge for a league crown.  North Park went 3-6 last year and 2-3 in league but their upset of Briggsdale helped get them into the playoffs.  North Park was young last year, and the playoff experience should help this team.  North Park is losing just 3 seniors from last year’s team but a senior leader in Bryce Carlstrom does graduate.  The QB position will be taken over by Destry Schmidt who must improve heading into his senior year.  The big replacement will be at RB and look for Eli Houston and Carlos Gonzales to help fill this role.  Defensively North Park returns 6 of their top 8 tacklers including their top 3 tacklers.  Follett, Schmidt, and Houston all must become leaders on this defense.  I think North Park has a shot again at the playoffs and possibly challenge for the league crown.  Finding offensive replacements are key for North Park.  Fleming went 7-4 last year and 3-2 in league to finish 3rd in the North League.  Fleming reached the quarterfinals last year before falling to Kit Carson and seeing what it will take to beat Kit Carson will help this team this year.  Fleming is losing just 1 senior from last year’s team and this I think will be their best shot at a very deep run and League title.  Kade Comstock returns for his junior year at QB and he threw for 1178 yards and 17 TDs.  #1 rusher Brandon Williams also returns as does #2 rusher Brady Kuntz.  Fleming offense will be very tough to stop this year will a lot of players gaining valuable experience.  Defensively the entire unit returns.  Brandon Williams was the leading tackler from last year.  Fleming defense did give up 308 points last year so I will be interested in seeing if they can drop it under 250.  Fleming in my opinion is the favorite to win the North League and make a deep run in the playoffs.  Prairie went 7-4 last year and 4-1 in league to finish second.  Prairie did make the playoffs and reached the quarterfinals before falling to Arickaree/Woodlin.  Prairie is losing 8 seniors from last years team and some key leadership positions must be filled.  Prairie though I think reloads instead of rebuilds and still fight for a league title.  Prairie will return QB Mitch Dollerschell who threw for 1058 yards 16 TDs and 7 INTs.  He leadership will be key for this offense this year.  Prairie will have to replace their top 3 rushers from last year.  Patrick Thompson should take over as the feature back but look for Maverick Mertens to step up this year.  Defensively Prairie is returning 4 of their top 8 tacklers but is losing 3 of their top 5 tacklers.  Carson Holzworth and Garrett Lindell will be called upon to become leaders of the defense this year.  Prairie I think challenges for the league crown this year, but leadership must be developed if they plan for a deep playoff push.  Peetz went 8-3 last year and 5-0 in league to win the North League.  Peetz reached the semifinals before running into Stratton/Liberty and losing.  Peetz had a very dynamic offense last year scoring 628 points and really relying on their offense to outscore teams.  Peetz is losing 6 seniors from last years team and all played in critical roles.  Peetz will be starting a new QB this year and look for either Cooper White or Sterling Sorensen to step up at QB.  The RB position is the toughest to replace with Bryson Long graduating and taking 2000 yards rushing with him.  Cooper White was the #2 rusher and if he stays at RB look for him to have a break out year.  Peetz defensively returns just 3 of their top 8 tacklers and lose 4 of their top 5.  Peetz will have to rebuild this defense but Cooper White will be called upon to lead this defense.  I could see Peetz take a slight step back this year, but I still think fight for a playoff spot and league title.  I am interested in seeing how Peetz reloads this year.  After looking over everything my predictions for league are: 1st Fleming, 2nd Prairie, 3rd North Park, 4th Peetz, 5th Briggsdale

My predictions for the North League

League Champion: Fleming

Playoff Contenders: Fleming, Prairie, North Park, Briggsdale, Peetz

Dark Horse: Peetz (Peetz lose some key pieces but the Tradition that Peetz has built had me struggling where to put this team.  I think Peetz will reload this year, but I still have question marks on this team.)

Player of the League: RB/LB Brandon Williams Fleming

Others to watch for: QB Tyler Blickem Briggsdale, QB Kade Comstock Fleming, QB Mitch Dollerschell Prairie, QB Destry Schmidt North Park, RB/QB Cooper White Peetz, RB/LB Brady Kuntz Fleming, RB Eli Houston North Park, RB Carlos Gonzales North Park, RB Patrick Thompson Prairie, DL Chris Goss Fleming,

South Central

The South-Central League was scheduled to be a 5-team league, but Aguilar is not fielding a team this year.  The South-Central league appears to be very weak with only 1 winning team last year.  I think this is a two-team race for the league title, but we will see.  Primero went 0-8 last year and 0-3 in league.  Primero struggled getting things going last year but only lose 3 seniors from that team.  Primero should start taking step to improve this year, but I think 2020 and 2021 is where we will see Primero chase for a league title.  Branson/Kim went 1-7 last year and 1-2 in league.  They also struggled last year but lose just 2 seniors from that team.  This year the team has just 8 players out and lack of depth could hurt this team.  Branson/Kim returns QB Kelton Davis who threw for 551 yards and #1 rusher Finn Warner.  Defensively Branson/Kim also returns 6 of their top 8 tacklers but it will be canning this team find the success needed to win games.  I am interested to see if Branson/Kim improves this year.  La Veta went 3-6 last year and 2-1 in league.  La Veta struggled against teams outside of the league and against good competition were not in games.  La Veta will lose just 2 seniors from last years team.  La Veta should improve this year especially playing a lot of younger kids last year.  QB Kaleb Andreatta returns for La Veta and so does RB Zamir Holguin.  The big piece lost on offense is the senior leadership of Ty Warren.  Defensively La Veta returns 7 of their top 8 tacklers.  Ty Warren will be missed on defense but look for Zamir Holguin and Nathaniel Holguin to really step up this year.  La Veta in my mind will be the favorite to win the South Central but can they win outside their league is the big question.  Manzanola went 5-4 last year and 3-0 in league to win the South-Central League.  Manzanola is losing 4 seniors from last years team and some key pieces of the success.  QB Axel Escareno will return for his senior year and he will be a big part of the offense.  #1 rusher Dominic Martinez does graduate but look for Daniel Escareno to step up this year.  Defensively Manzanola is return 5 of their top 8 tacklers but losing their leading tackler of 117 tackles.  I think Manzanola will still compete with La Veta for the league title I just think La Veta will be retuning a big more and why I am picking them right now.  After looking over everything my predictions for league are: 1st La Veta, 2nd Manzanola, 3rd Branson/Kim, 4th Primero

My predictions for the South-Central League

League Champion: La Veta

Playoff Contenders: La Veta and Manzanola

Dark Horse: Branson/Kim (Can they improve enough to challenge for the league crown.)

Player of the League: RB/LB Zamir Holguin La Veta

Others to watch for: QB Kelton Davis Branson/Kim, QB Axel Escareno Manzanola, QB Kaleb Andreatta La Veta, RB Daniel Escareno Manzanola, RB Finn Warner Branson/Kim, S Nathaniel Holguin La Veta, Blake Williams Manzanola

South East League

The South East league once again looks to be very tough.  I think this year we see multiple teams competing for playoff spots.  Cheraw went 1-7 last year and 0-5 in league.  Cheraw is losing just 2 seniors from last years team.  Cheraw will improve this year and with a roster of 15 having more kids out should help with the depth.  QB Trey Pearce returns for his junior year.  Pearce threw for 482 yards and 9 TDs, but he must lower his INT number.  Cheraw will have to replace the #1 rusher but look for Simon Rodriquez to step up this year.  Defensively Cheraw should show big improvements returning 7 of their top 8 tacklers.  Leadership will be needed losing their top tackler.  I see Cheraw having an improved year and possibly play for a playoff spot.  Eads went 2-6 last year and 1-4 in league.  Eads missed the playoffs for the first time since I am guessing 2008.  Eads had a solid run of playoffs appearances end and Eads would love to get back to the playoffs.  Eads will have a good chance to improve this year with their entire team returning.  Eads played a lot of younger kids last year and the experience should help Eads make a jump this year.  No stats were posted for Eads but with their entire team returning I expect Eads to compete for a playoff spot this year.  Walsh went 4-4 last year and 2-3 in league and missed the playoffs.  Walsh has been competitive but just can’t seem to make the move into the playoffs.  Walsh is losing 4 seniors from last years team with some key pieces graduating.  Walsh will be looking for a new QB and possibly Brendan Hodges can step into that role.  Coy McDonald will be back at RB for Walsh and he must step up as the leader for Walsh.  Defensively Walsh is returning 4 of their top 8 tacklers including their leading tackler Coy McDonald.  McDonald and Hodges will be the lone two seniors next year and they will have to play big roles for Walsh to try and contend for a playoff spot.  Cheyenne Wells went 5-4 last year and 3-2 in league to finish 3rd in league.  Cheyenne Wells still made the playoffs but are looking for a deep run this year.  Cheyenne Wells loses just 2 seniors from last year team and I really think this will be the best shot for Cheyenne Wells if they plan on pushing for a league crown or a deep playoff run.  QB Kyle Nelson returns and Nelson had a solid year throwing for 708 yards and 9 TDs.  RB Quade Pelton also returns for Cheyenne Wells and him staying healthy is key for Cheyenne Wells.  Another rusher will need to be developed to help with depth.  Defensively Cheyenne Wells will return 6 of their top 8 tacklers including 4 of their top 5.  Quade Pelton had 141 tackles last year and his leadership is key for this defense.  I really think Cheyenne Wells can push for the league title, but other players will have to step up this year if they plan to upset Kit Carson.  Granada went 6-5 last year and 4-1 in league to finish second in league.  Granada played their first year of 6-man and had success.  It will be interesting to see if Granada can keep the success up.  Granada is losing 8 seniors to graduation and many played key positions.  Granada will need younger kids to really step up this year if they plan to keep up the success.  Granada will return QB Dominic Coleman who had a great freshman year throwing for 1609 yards and 20 TDs.  He will have to step up again next year.  The top 3 rushers all graduate, and I expect Caleb Dorenkamp to fill the hole at RB.  Defensively Granada returns 3 of their top 8 tacklers but return just 1 of their top 6.  Caleb Dorenkamp will have to step up and become the leader for Granada.  I see Granada taking a slight step back this year.  I think Granada will still be tough to beat but I think 2020 Granada will be pushing for a league crown.  Kit Carson went 11-1 last year and 5-0 in league to win the South-East League.  Kit Carson reached the state championship but lost to Stratton/Liberty.  Kit Carson will be the favorite to win the South East League and win the State Championship this year.  Kit Carson is losing just 2 seniors from last years team and their leadership will have to be made up.  Kit Carson will be searching for a new QB but look for Cordell Farmer to fill that hole.  The RB position returns their top 5 rushers, but #1 rusher Joe Bryan returns and should have a big year for Kit Carson.  Defensively Kit Carson returns 6 of their top 8 tacklers but losing Conaway and Bryan will hurt this defense a bit.  Cordell Farmer lead Kit Carson in tackles last year and expect him and Joe Bryan to really step up and lead the defense this year.  I think Kit Carson is the early favorite for both the League title and State Champions.  We will see how they replace the two seniors.  After looking over everything my predictions for league are: 1st Kit Carson, 2nd Cheyenne Wells, 3rd Eads, 4th Cheraw, 5th Granada, 6th Walsh

My predictions for the South-East League

League Champion: Kit Carson

Playoff Contenders: Kit Carson, Cheyenne Wells, Eads, and Cheraw

Dark Horse: Eads (Eads returns their entire team from last year, but did they improve enough to hold off Cheraw, Granada, and Walsh for a top 3 spot.)

Player of the League: RB/LB Joe Bryan Kit Carson

Others to watch for: QB Dominic Coleman Granada, QB/RB/LB Kyle Nelson Cheyenne Wells, QB/RB/LB Quade Pelton Cheyenne Wells, QB Trey Pearce Cheraw, QB/DL Cordell Farmer, RB/LB Coy McDonald,

South West League

The South West League was also supposed to be a 5-team league, but Antonito couldn’t get enough kids out and decided not to field a team.  The Southwest League qualified 2 of the 4 teams into the playoffs last year.  I think 3 of the 4 teams this year could really push for a playoff spot.  Cripple Creek went 0-8 last year and 0-3 in league.  They lose 4 seniors from last years team.  Cripple Creek did not post stats and seeing what they return will be key to this team having more success.  I don’t think Cripple Creek can really compete with the Top 3 teams but seeing how they develop is key.  Sierra Grande went 3-5 and 1-2 in league last year under first year head coach Luis Corona.  Sierra Grande is hoping to get into the playoffs this year and I think with the talent they have coming back they have a shot.  Sierra Grande is losing just 2 seniors and the rest of the team is coming back.  QB AJ Ojeda will return and he had success last year throwing for 520 yards and 8 TDs.  His development is key to Sierra Grande pushing for a playoff spot.  RB Caleb Scharsch also returns for Sierra Grande and he reach the 1000-yard mark last year and must continue to improve this year.  Another RB must be developed this year to add depth to the running game.  Defensively Sierra Grande returns 6 of their 8 top tacklers.  Leading tacklers Richie Atencio and Lennie Valdez both return for Sierra Grande.  I don’t know if Sierra Grande can push for a league title this year, but I think a playoff spot is possibly.  Sierra Grande I think in 2020 makes them more for the league title.  Cotopaxi went 7-3 last year and 2-1 in league to finish second in the South West League.  Cotopaxi made the playoffs last year but lost in the first round.  Cotopaxi is losing just 1 senior from last years team.  The rest of the team will return, and I think have a good shot at winning the league crown and possibly winning in the first round of the playoffs.  Cotopaxi returns QB Peter Belt who had a solid sophomore year throwing for 805 yards and 12 TDs, but he must improve more heading into his junior year.  The #1 rusher for Cotopaxi does graduate but Tyler Sawyer had just 15 yards less and should fill that hole.  Also look for Frank Ogden to step up as the #2 back this year.  Defensively Cotopaxi returns 7 of their 8 top tacklers including their top 6.  Zackary Van Esselstine returns as the leading tackler (131) along with Frank Ogden.  Those two became the leaders last year and will be needed again this year.  I am picking Cotopaxi as my early season favorite to win the South West League, but it won’t be handed to them.  I also wonder can a South West team win a playoff game.  Mountain Valley had a great season last year going 8-1 and 3-0 in league.  Mountain Valley did lose in the first round which seems to be a theme for the South West Teams.  Mountain Valley does lose some talent from their team with 3 seniors graduating.  Mountain Valley though will not be rebuilding, and I think reload and push to defend their league crown.  Mountain Valley will have QB Salvador Vigil back, but he is hurt and could miss a few games.  Look for Cedar Ross to fill the hole they’re until Vigil is back.  Mountain Valley also loses their top rusher, but Elijah Roberts will fill that hole along with Tristian Martinez.  Defensively Mountain Valley returns 5 of their top 8 tacklers but lose 3 of their top 5.  Cedar Ross was the leading tackler and will be back.  He leadership will be key for this defense along with Elijah Roberts.  I think Mountain Valley will be very good this year and the question is can they defend their crown from Cotopaxi.  That game will be a great game and I think decides the league crown.  Another big question is can the South West League win a playoff game?  After looking over everything my predictions for league are: 1st Cotopaxi, 2nd Mountain Valley, 3rd Sierra Grande

My predictions for the South West League

League Champion: Cotopaxi

Playoff Contenders: Cotopaxi, Mountain Valley, Sierra Grande

Dark Horse: Sierra Grande (Did Sierra Grande improve enough this offseason to challenge Cotopaxi and Mountain Valley)

Player of the League: RB/LB Elijah Roberts Mountain Valley

Others to watch for: RB/LB Tyler Sawyer Cotopaxi (Can also win Player of the League), QB Salvador Vigil Mountain Valley, QB Peter Belt Cotopaxi, QB AJ Ojeda Sierra Grande, RB Caleb Scharsch Sierra Grande, RB Elijah Roberts Mountain Valley, RB Tyler Sawyer Cotopaxi, DL Zackary Van Esselstine Cotopaxi, DL Cedar Ross Mountain Valley, S Frank Ogden Cotopaxi, S Salvador Vigil Mountain Valley, Richie Atencio Sierra Grande
