6-Man Football Week 4 Top Ten Breakdown

No changes inside the Top 8 this week.  The only change was Peetz falling outside the Top 10 with their loss to Fleming and Granada replacing them after their close victory over Eads who falls to #10.  Next week we will move to League Breakdowns instead of Top 10 breakdowns!

#1 Kit Carson (3-0)

Kit Carson is off to a hot start at 3-0.  Kit Carson moved to 3-0 with a 53-13 victory over Arickaree/Woodlin.  Kit Carson has 1 top 10 victory on the year with their 48-14 win over #4 Stratton/Liberty.  Offensively Kit Carson has been able to balance their attack Passing for 320 yards on the year and rushing for 661 yards on the year.  Sullivan Farmer has taken over at QB and is 17 for 25 for 303 yards and 9 TDs.  The rushing attack has been led by Joe Bryan (223) and Jason McCombs-Farmer (244).  This week Kit Carson hosts #10 Eads for their second top ten match up.  This is Kit Carson first league game as well.  Kit Carson defensively will be focused on stopping the run and limiting the big run plays.  Offensively look for Kit Carson to stay balanced.  This should be a good test for Kit Carson.

#2 Fleming (3-0)

Fleming improved to 3-0 last week picking up a solid 55-18 victory over previously ranked Peetz.  Fleming has dominated in their first 3 games with wins over Idalia, Arickaree/Woodlin, and Peetz.  Fleming offensively has been powered by their rushing attack which has racked up over 800 yards.  Brandon Williams (288 yards) and Charles Hobbs (161 yards) have led the rushing attack.  The passing attack has been efficient for Fleming going 11 of 15 for 122 yards and 4 TDs.  Defensively Fleming has given up just 30 points on the year.  Up next for Fleming is a road trip to Weldon Valley.  This will be Fleming second league game.  Fleming will look to dominate in this game and should have plenty of success running the football in this game.  I could see Fleming defensively putting up a 0 on the scoreboard.  Fleming must not enter this game overlooking Weldon Valley.

#3 Cheyenne Wells (3-0)

Cheyenne Wells has continued their hot start moving to 3-0 on the season.  Cheyenne Wells picked up their third victory beating Idalia 70-12.  Cheyenne Wells is lacking a top 10 victory so far but have dominated their 3 opponents to date.  Cheyenne Wells has given up just 20 points on the year and have scored 184 points.  Offensively Cheyenne Wells can attack you two ways.  Their passing attack has racked up 358 yards and their rushing attack has 854 yards.  QB/RB Quade Pelton has 226 yards passing and 350 yards rushing.  RB Cade Mitchek has 396 yards rushing and 6 TDs to lead all rushers.  Cheyenne Wells offense has been on fire to start the year.  Up next for Cheyenne Wells will be a road game and league opener against Walsh.  Walsh is 1-2 on the year but picked up a huge upset of Cheraw last week 34-20.  Walsh has some momentum and will be looking to pick up another upset.  Cheyenne Wells will look to dominate defensively again and limit Walsh rushing attack.  Walsh did a good job stopping the run last week and Cheyenne Wells will look offensively to run the ball first so this will be a good match up.

#4 Stratton/Liberty (2-1)

Stratton/Liberty is the defending state champions and have played two top 10 opponents to start the year.  Stratton/Liberty started the year with a tough loss to #1 Kit Carson but have since rebounded with back to back wins over Prairie and Hanover.  Stratton/Liberty has been led by their rushing attack racking up 842 yards of rushing.  Trevor Frank has led all rushers with 384 yards and Jaret Lichty is slowly coming back and has 168 yards rushing.  The passing attack for Stratton/Liberty has had some success as well passing for 201 yards and 4 TDs.  Stratton/Liberty offense continues to improve as the year goes on as well.  Up next for Stratton/Liberty is a road game against Peetz.  Peetz is 2-1 on the year and picked up their first loss of the season to Fleming last week.  Stratton/Liberty will look to limit Peetz rushing attack and force them to throw.  Offensively look for Stratton/Liberty to dominate the line of scrimmage and have a big day from Trevor Frank.  This will be a good test for both Peetz and Stratton/Liberty.

#5 Prairie (2-1)

Prairie is 2-1 on the season and did a good job bouncing back after a loss two weeks ago to Stratton/Liberty.  Prairie moved to 2-1 and 1-0 in league after beating Briggsdale 48-28.  This was a tough matchup for Prairie, but they were able to have big second and third quarters to pull away from Briggsdale.  Offensively Prairie had a big day from QB Mitch Dollerschell who threw for 231 yards and 4 TDs to lead the offense.  The rushing attack was limited to just 129 yards rushing with RB Xander Speicher rushing for 62 yards and 2 TDs.  Defensively Prairie was able to limit the rushing attack of Briggsdale holding them to 131 yards but Briggsdale had a big day passing the ball for 293 yards.  Up next for Prairie is a huge road test against #7 North Park.  Prairie will hope to get their rushing attack going this game but having QB Mitch Dollerschell show he can throw at least makes this offense more potent.  Defensively Prairie will look to limit the run heavy offense of North Park.  This will be a great game.

#6 Flagler/Hi Plains (3-0)

Flagler/Hi Plains moved to 3-0 on the season picking up the forfeit win over Edison last week.  Previously Flagler/Hi Plains picked up wins over Briggsdale (40-39) and Walsh (62-52).  Both games tested were big tests for Flagler/Hi Plains and they were able to escape with wins.  Offensively Flagler/Hi Plains has been a run first offense but have had success throwing the ball.  Flagler/Hi Plains has 342 yards passing led by RB/QB Zayd Banks (196 yards passing and 2 TDs).  The rushing attack has racked up 503 yards and led by Zayd Banks who has 342 yards rushing and 6 TDs.  Flagler/Hi Plains will hope their bye week will help shore up the mistakes on defense.  This week Flagler/Hi Plains opens their league schedule against Otis.  Otis is 1-2 on the year and picked up their first win on the season against Genoa-Hugo 48-19.  This should be a tough match up for both teams and we will see who can dominate in this game.  Flagler/Hi Plains will hope their rushing attack can have a big day and also hope their defense can really step up in this game.

#7 North Park (3-0)

North Park has moved to 3-0 on the season with 1 top ten victory on the year.  Last week North Park picked up a big 51-6 victory over Mountain Valley.  North Park had a huge day rushing the ball picking up 343 yards on the ground.  RB Brock Follett led all rushers with 135 yards and 1 TD.  Destry Schmidt also had a solid day rushing for 82 yards and 1 TD.  Defensively North Park had a big game holding Mountain Valley to just 12 yards rushing and 127 yards passing.  Up next for North Park is a league game against #5 Prairie.  This will be a big test for this defense as they are facing a balanced offensive attack and we will see how this team does this week on defense.  Offensively North Park will be tested.  North Park must have a big day from their rushing attack if they plan to pull the upset.  North Park vs Prairie is a big game and the 6-man game of the week!

#8 Cotopaxi (2-1)

Cotopaxi moved to 2-1 on the season and bounced back nicely from their first loss of the season beating La Veta 52-0 last week.  Cotopaxi this season has been able to throw the ball more but have a solid rushing attack.  QB Ty Coleman is having a big year passing for 674 yards, 11 TDs and just 2 INTs.  His offensive production has been key for the early success of Cotopaxi.  The rushing attack has racked up 421 yards rushing and is being led by Tyler Sawyer who has 362 yards rushing and 2 TDs.  Cotopaxi defensively picked up their first shutout of the year last week.  Up next for Cotopaxi is their first league game against rival Mountain Valley.  Mountain Valley is 1-2 on the year and are coming off a tough 52-12 loss to North Park.  We will see how Mountain Valley bounces back this week against Cotopaxi.  Cotopaxi defensively will look to limit the rushing attack of Mountain Valley.  Cotopaxi will continue to balance their offense, but their offense will be tested by an aggressive defense of Mountain Valley.  This game could decide the league title!

#9 Granada (3-0)

Granada is off to a sneaky 3-0 start.  Granada has played 3 very close and tough games and have come out victorious in all three.  Last week Granada pulled off the 54-46 upset of Eads.  Granada has surprised me so far this season but are about to hit a tough stretch of games.  This week Granada will face Arickaree/Woodlin who is 0-3 but cannot be overlooked.  After their game with Arickaree/Woodlin, Granada will have 3 of their 5 final games against ranked teams.  We will learn more about Granada as the weeks goes on.

#10 Eads (2-1)

Eads is off to a 2-1 start and barely hold onto a top 10 ranking after losing to Granada 54-46.  Eads has been reliant on RB Damian Barnes who has racked up an incredible 787 yards and 15 TDs in just 3 games.  Eads offense focuses around Barnes and he must continue to have success for Eads to have success.  Eads #2 RB Angel Medina is also off to a solid start rushing for 304 yards and 7 TDs.  Eads offensively will continue to improve but the biggest test for Eads will be this week against #1 Kit Carson.  Offensively Eads must be able to run the ball and must take care of the ball to have success.  Defensively Eads must be ready for one of the best offenses in the state.  This will truly test how much Eads has improved on the season.
