8-Man Football Semifinal Breakdown

A few upsets in the Quarterfinals set up some very good matchups in the Semifinals.  Good Luck to all teams.

#1 Sedgwick County vs #5 Dayspring Christian

Sedgwick County moved into the semifinals with the solid 54 to 0 victory over Merino.  Sedgwick County jumped out to the quick 26 to 0 lead over Merino in the first quarter and added 14 more in the 2nd quarter to get the running clock going.  Sedgwick County defensively came to play holding Merino to just 44 yards of total offense.  Sedgwick County also forced 2 turnovers and had a defensive TD.  Offensively Sedgwick County stuck to the run racking up 279 yards of rushing.  Sedgwick County was led by Beau Parker who had 108 yards rushing and 4 TDs and Tate Goddard who had 76 yards rushing and 1 TD.  Sedgwick County will now face their second league foe in a row in Dayspring Christian.  Sedgwick County defensively will focus attention on QB Christian Still and look to stop the running game.  Offensively look for Sedgwick County to lean on QB Jared Ehmke and RB Beau Parker.

Dayspring Christian moved into the semifinals in a hard fought 38 to 28 victory over Vail Christian.  Dayspring Christian had a slow start to the game giving up 16 points and only scoring 6 points.  Dayspring Christian woke up though and outscored Vail Christian 24 to 6 in the second quarter taking the 30 to 22 lead into halftime.  Vail Christian wouldn’t go away scoring in the third quarter making the score 30 to 28.  Dayspring Christian would add one more TD in the fourth quarter to seal the game and punch their ticket into the semifinals.  Defensively Dayspring Christian will look to fix the mistakes from the Vail Christian game.  Dayspring Christian did have some success forced 2 INTs and 3 Sacks.  Dayspring Christian also had a huge defensive performance by Caden Bonnell.  Offensively Dayspring Christian had some success racking up 288 yards of total offense.  QB Christian Still had 91 yards passing, 29 yards rushing, and 3 TDs.  The rushing game for Dayspring Christian really came up big racking up 197 yards and were led by Garrett Krehbiel who had 148 yards rushing and 2 TDs.  This week Dayspring Christian will look to upset Sedgwick County.  Defensively they will have to play their best game of the season and must find a way to slow down RB Beau Parker.  Offensively Dayspring Christian must have outstanding performances from Christian Still and RB’s Garrett Krehbiel and Caden Bonnell.

These two teams meet during the regular season with Sedgwick County winning 56 to 16.  Sedgwick County will look to use a similar formula as before.  Defensively Sedgwick County has been top notch and look for them to dominate again on that side of the ball.  Dayspring Christian will look to crack the defensive of Sedgwick County to have success and they must also have their defense play top notch.

#3 Fowler vs #7 Pikes Peak Christian

Fowler moved into the semifinals with the exciting 34 to 28 victory over Mancos.  Fowler dug themselves a 20 to 6 deficit early in the second quarter.  Fowler then scored 22 straight points to jump to the 28 to 20 lead heading into halftime.  No points were scored in the third quarter and then things would get very interesting in the 4th quarter.  Fowler would add a TD in the fourth to extend their lead to 34 to 20.  Mancos would not go away scoring to cut the lead to 34 to 28.  Mancos would then make one last push and get into the red zone, but an Interception ended the drive and Fowler would hold on to win 34 to 28.  Fowler defensively had success stopping the explosive offense of Mancos holding them to 229 yards.  Fowler forced 3 turnovers in the game and had a outstanding performance from Gabriel Proctor and Braxton Bates.  Offensively had a solid day racking up 400 yards of total offense but 4 turnovers really hurt them in this game.  QB Luke Bitter struggled throwing the ball completing just 1 pass and throwing 2 INTs.  The running game did have success rushing for 383 yards.  Jackson Bates led all rushers with 112 yards and Joshua Daniels pitched in another 80 yards.  Fowler must fix the mistakes heading into this week’s game.  Up next is Pikes Peak Christian and defensively Fowler must have success stopping the run and offensively must be able to contend with the speed and toughness of Pikes Peak Christian.

Pikes Peak Christian moved into the Semifinals with the 28 to 6 upset of #2 Sanford.  Pikes Peak Christian took the quick 14 to 0 lead going into halftime.  Sanford cut the lead to 14 to 6 but a 76 yards run by Nathan Seay really sealed the game for Pikes Peak Christian and they would move on with the 28 to 6 win.  Defensively Pikes Peak Christian executed a great game plan and slowed down a very good offense.  Pikes Peak Christian forced 5 turnovers in the game many as Sanford was driving down the field.  Offensively Pikes Peak Christian had a lot of success running the ball racking up 329 yards of total offense.  RB Hudson Grant had a big day rushing for 143 yards as did Nathan Seay who had 158 yards rushing.  Up next for Pikes Peak Christian is Fowler.  Defensively they will try and stop the run as well and force Fowler to throw.  Offensively Pikes Peak Christian must be able to run the ball to pull another upset.

This should be a very good game and these teams match up well.  Both teams want to run the ball and play tough defense.  Turnovers will be a big factor and whichever teams takes care of the ball will have success.  Offensive and Defensive Line play will also be huge and that will also determine this game.  Should be a great game!
