Boys Basketball Final Four Predictions (Class 3A thru 1A)
We are reaching the Finish line and have just 4 teams remaining in their respective Classes. Some great matchups take place tonight. I did find it crazy to think I was 16-4 across all 3 classes on the boys side.
Playoff Prediction Record: 16-4, 80%
#1 Belleview Christian over #4 Granada, 3/18 @6pm
Belleview Christian moved into the Final 4 beating Denver Jewish Day 63 to 27. Belleview Christian looks to be real deal defeating both playoff opponents by 25+ points. Belleview Christian size and ability to score is a big factor in their playoff success. Granada moves into the Final 4 defeating Cheraw 42 to 40. Granada had a major turn around from last season to this season. Granada face probably their toughest test of the season against Belleview Christian. Granada must turn to their guard play to force the upset. I am going with Belleview Christian over Granada. I think Belleview Christian size will be the biggest factor. If Granada can win the battle on the boards, they could really push Belleview Christian. I do think this will be a tough game for Belleview Christian.
#3 De Beque over #2 Merino, 3/18 @6pm
De Beque moved into the Final 4 with a 54 to 46 victory over Haxtun. This was a very solid win for De Beque. De Beque has plenty of playoff experience and face another 1A power in Merino. Merino moved into the final 4 beating Mile High Academy 47 to 45. This was a hard fought win for Merino but they were able to escape with the win. Merino and De Beque are both teams that have been into the Elite 8 and Final 4. I think this will be a fantastic game with plenty of scoring. I am going with De Beque over Merino. This was not an easy pick. Both teams have a good shot of winning this game and challenging for a State Title. I am going with De Beque because of Wes Ryan and his ability to take over a game.
Playoff Prediction Record: 16-4, 80%
#1 Wray over #4 Yuma, 3/18 @7pm
Wray moved into the Final 4 defeating Sedgwick County 74 to 44. Wray has been dominate in the tournament picking up a pair of 20+ points wins. Wray continues to face League opponents and face Yuma in the Final 4. Yuma moved into the Final 4 defeating Wiggins 99 to 70. This was a much closer game than the final score shows. Yuma has showed plenty of resilience and this team is getting back into form after taking the long break. As mentioned, these two are league rival but never faced each other due to Covid. This will be a great game between two well coached teams. I am going with Wray over Yuma. I think Wray defense will be the difference in the game.
#2 Limon over #3 Peyton, 3/18 @6pm
Limon cruised into the Final 4 defeating Ignacio 71 to 39. Limon built the early lead and never looked back. Limon has won both tournament games by 25+ points and face a tough opponent in the Final 4. Peyton moved into the Final 4 with a thrilling 48 to 47 victory over Denver Christian. This was a hard fought game from beginning to end but Peyton came away with the win and reach the Final 4. Peyton vs Limon should be a great match up. I am going with Limon over Peyton. Peyton will hope to use the momentum of the close win over Denver Christian to try and pull the upset. I think Limon is well rested for this game and I think defensively they will be able to put the pressure on Peyton and that proves to be the difference in this game.
Playoff Prediction: 16-4, 80%
#1 St. Mary’s over #4 Manitou Springs, 3/18 @7pm
St. Mary’s moved into the Final 4 with a 82 to 54 victory over Englewood. St. Mary’s built a 15 point lead after the first quarter and were able to hold the lead and then extend it again in the 4th quarter. St. Mary’s speed has proven to be the difference but face a league rival once again this week. Manitou Springs moved into the Final 4 with a 65 to 54 victory over Colorado Academy. Manitou Springs had a big performance from the 3 point line hitting over 10 3’s in the game. Manitou Springs may need a similar performance if they plan to avenge their earlier loss to St. Mary’s. I am going with St. Mary’s over Manitou Springs. I think the speed and style of St. Mary’s will be the difference in this game.
#2 Lutheran over #3 Sterling, 3/18 @7pm
Lutheran moved into the Final 4 picking up the 73 to 65 victory over Manual. Lutheran played well in their rematch with Manual. Lutheran now must quickly change focus to the Final 4 matchup against Sterling. Sterling moved into the Final 4 with a exciting 54 to 52 victory over Aspen. Sterling was able to hold on to the win over Aspen. Sterling will look to fix some defensive errors from the 4th quarter and face what most people think is the team to win it all. I am going with Lutheran over Sterling. I think this will be a very good game, but I think Lutheran has just a bit too much firepower. I do think if Sterling can keep pace, they could force an upset.
