8-Man Football League Predictions Update Week 6

We are 5 weeks thru the regular season.  League play is in full swing and all league races are really starting to heat up. A few more teams were eliminated from the playoff hunt, but this week is a huge week for many teams.  Playoff Predictions and Projections will be posted separate.

Arkansas Valley League

Holly stays as my pick to win the Ark Valley League.  Holly improved to 3-1 on the season following the 47-6 win over Wiley.  This was a big victory for Holly in league play.  Holly this week will face McClave who is desperate for a quality win.  McClave dropped to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in league.  McClave has fallen to #21 in the RPI but an upset could get them back in the right direction.  McClave is not out of the playoff hunt yet but the next 4 weeks will tell us a lot about McClave.  Fowler improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in league play keeping pace with Holly.  Fowler picked up the 42-26 win over Las Animas last week.  Fowler will matchup against Springfield this week and should improve to 4-1 and 3-0 in league play.  Hoehne improved to 3-1 on the season and kept pace with Holly and Fowler in league improving to 2-0.  Hoehne beat Springfield 50-6 last week but this week have a much tougher test against Wiley.  Hoehne will look to keep a top 3 spot in league.  Hoehne currently sits outside the top 16 in the RPI and needs a big win this week.  Wiley dropped to 1-1 on the season league play.  Wiley will look to bounce back after their 47-6 loss to Holly last week.  Wiley will look to jump into a top 3 spot if they can beat Hoehne.  Wiley sits at #13 in the RPI but expect changes from week to week until they have at least 4 games under their belt.  Crowley County improved to 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play.  Crowley County blasted McClave 66-6 and kept their playoff hopes alive.  Crowley County has a huge matchup against Las Animas this week.  If Crowley County plans to keep their playoff hopes alive, they must beat Las Animas.  Las Animas is currently 1-3 and barely alive in the playoff race.  Las Animas sits at #28 in the RPI and a loss to Crowley County could eliminate them from the hunt.  We will have to see what happens with their RPI.

In the Playoff Hunt

Holly, Fowler, Hoehne, Wiley, Crowley County, McClave, Las Animas

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Springfield

RPI Standings (As of 9/29)

#7 Holly, #13 Wiley, #14 Fowler, #17 Hoehne, #20 Crowley County, #21 McClave, #28 Las Animas, #35 Springfield

Central League

The Central League looks more and more like whoever wins the league is the only team that will get into the playoffs.  Front Range Christian stays as my pick to win the Central League.  Front Range Christian improved to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in league play.  FRC could take another big step towards the league title when they host Byers.  Byers is currently 2-3 overall and 1-0 in league play.  Byers picked up the 52-20 win over Elbert.  Byers proved they are a threat and had a huge day on the ground.  This will be a good game.  Lyons is still in the league title hunt.  They have not started league play yet but kick things off this week against Justice.  This could be a trap game with Byers and Front Range Christian in the next two weeks.  Elbert has been eliminated from the playoff hunt.  2 losses in league basically eliminate them from the league title race and they dropped to #30 in the RPI.

In the Playoff Hunt

Front Range Christian, Lyons, Byers

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Elbert, Justice, South Park

RPI Standings (As of 9/29)

#22 Front Range Christian, #24 Lyons, #25 Byers, #30 Elbert, #32 South Park, #39 Justice

Mountain League

Mancos is my pick to win the Mountain League.  Mancos picked up a big 40-0 win over Montezuma-Cortez.  Mancos played 11-man and picked up the big win over a 2A school.  Mancos will kick off league play this week against Dove Creek.  This is a huge game and should be fun to watch.  Dove Creek moved to 3-1 on the season beating Norwood 54-6.  Dove Creek will have to find an answer on defense for the rushing attack of Mancos.  Dove Creek is a playoff team, but this is a big game inside the Mountain league.  Sanford is my pick to finish second in the Mountain league.  Sanford last week lost to Vail Christian 36-22, but key players got injured in the game.  Sanford though did lose and now will look to get healthy before their final stretch of games.  Sanford will have 2 weeks off without games and we will see how they play against Mancos on 10/15.  I do believe Mancos, Sanford and Dove Creek all get into the playoffs.

In the Playoff Hunt

Sanford, Mancos, Dove Creek

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Sargent, Norwood

RPI Standings (As of 9/29)

#2 Mancos, #5 Sanford, #15 Dove Creek, #31 Sargent, #36 Norwood

Northwest League

Vail Christian is my pick to win the Northwest League.  Vail Christian picked up the big 36-22 victory over Sanford.  Vail Christian will move back into league play and host Plateau Valley this Saturday.  This is a big-league matchup.  Vail Christian have nearly locked up a playoff spot, but big-league matchup remains for Vail Christian.  Plateau Valley has their back against the wall and need a quality win.  Plateau Valley sits at #33 in the RPI.  Plateau Valley will probably need to win 4 of their last 5 games to even have a shot at the playoffs.  Rangely moves back into my pick to finish second in the Northwest League.  Rangely picked up the big 42-14 win over Plateau Valley last week.  Rangely will now look to move to 2-3 overall when they travel to play West Grand.  This is a must win game for Rangely and a must win for West Grand.  West Grand picked up their first win of the season last week beating Soroco 48-30.  West Grand had a solid game plan and will look for another league win this week.  West Grand sits at #23 but a loss to Rangely could eliminate them from the playoff hunt.  Hayden improved to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in league play.  Hayden sits in a good spot at #18 in the RPI but have a must win game against Soroco this Friday.  The last 3 games of the season for Hayden will really tell us if they get into the playoffs but Hayden cannot overlook Soroco this week.

In the Playoff Hunt

Vail Christian, Plateau Valley, Rangely, Hayden, West Grand

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Soroco, Gilpin County

RPI Standings (As of 9/29)

#3 Vail Christian, #18 Hayden, #23 West Grand, #27 Rangely, #29 Soroco, #33 Plateau Valley, #40 Gilpin County

Plains League

Sedgwick County stays as my pick to win the plains league.  Sedgwick County picked up the 36-34 win over Akron holding on late to win.  Sedgwick County continues to hold on late in games.  Sedgwick County this week I believe has a bye due do Denver Christian canceling their game.  (Thanks to Kerry Sherman & Coloradopreps.com for the information.)  Sedgwick County will either look for another game or have a week to prepare for Haxtun and a brutal 4 games stretch to end the season.  Haxtun is my pick to finish second in the plain league.  I nearly slide Haxtun into the #1 spot but until someone proves to beat Sedgwick County I cannot.  Haxtun picked up the 26-6 win over Dayspring Christian last week and proved they are a real threat in the 8-Man ranks.  Haxtun this week will face Merino and once again this is a huge test inside the plain league.  Haxtun will look to slow down the rushing attack of Merino.  Merino moved to 2-2 on the season with the 20-14 win over Lyons.  Merino will now look to slow a powerful offensive attack from Haxtun.  Both Merino and Haxtun are sitting well in terms of the playoff hunt.  Dayspring Christian slide to 3-2 overall losing to Haxtun 26-6.  Dayspring Christian this week face Caliche.  Dayspring Christian will be looking to bounce back and must have a big day on the ground.  Caliche improved to 2-3 overall with the 40-22 win over Denver Christian.  Caliche sits at #19 in the RPI and need an upset of one of the final 4 games to get into the playoffs.  Caliche must be able to stop the run to have a shot in this game.  Akron dropped to 3-2 overall and nearly knocked off Sedgwick County last week but fell 36-34 in the game.  Akron has a bye this week and will prepare for rival Merino next week.

In the Playoff Hunt

Sedgwick County, Haxtun, Merino, Dayspring Christian, Akron, Caliche

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Denver Christian

RPI Standings (As of 9/29)

#1 Sedgwick County, #4 Haxtun, #6 Merino, #8 Akron, #11 Dayspring Christian, #19 Caliche, #39 Denver Christian

Southern League

Pikes Peak Christian is my pick to win the Southern league.  Pikes Peak Christian had a bye last week but move back into action this week when they travel to face Dolores Huerta.  PPC will look to stay atop the league standings and avoid the upset.  Dolores Huerta improved to 2-2 on the season with the 64-6 win over Custer County.  Dolores Huerta sits at #26 in the RPI and an upset of PPC could boost them big time.  Dolores Huerta will probably need an upset of PPC, Simla, or Calhan to really make a push for the playoffs.  Simla is my pick to finish second in the Southern League.  Simla picked up the 14-8 win over Calhan last week and keep pace behind PPC.  Simla this week will travel to face Custer County.  Simla should improve to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in league.  Simla sits at #10 in the RPI.  Calhan has the biggest test this week inside the Southern League.  Calhan will travel to face Swink in a huge league matchup.  Calhan currently sits at #16 in the RPI, and this is a big game for both playoff hopes and league title hopes.  Swink had a bye last week to prepare for their game against Calhan.  Swink sits at #12 in the RPI and still on the bubble but if Swink wants to keep their league title hopes alive a win over Calhan is a must.  This should be a good game and a very important game for both playoffs and league title hopes.

In the Playoff Hunt

Pikes Peak Christian, Calhan, Simla, Swink, Dolores Huerta

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

John Mall, Custer County

RPI Standings (As of 9/29)

#9 Pikes Peak Christian, #10 Simla, #12 Swink, #16 Calhan, #26 Dolores Huerta, #24 John Mall, #37 Custer County
