MileHigh Prep Report Class 1A Boys Basketball Preseason Poll
My Top 10 Rankings for Class 1A. Last year was an interesting year with a short year. Plenty of talented teams returning this year and should make for a fun year.
Class 1A
| Rank | Team | Notes |
| #1 | Granada Made State Tournament (Went 2-1, Reached Final 4) | Granada returns a very talented team including 4 of their top 5 scorers. Dominic Coleman must be considered for POY. Granada gained valuable experience reaching the Final 4 last season now can they push for the State Title. |
| #2 | Briggsdale Made State Tournament (Lost in First Round) | Briggsdale reached the State Tournament last year but were upset in the first round. Briggsdale still gained valuable experience and now look for a deeper run. Briggsdale returns nearly their entire roster and should be a team to watch. Briggsdale can score points now can they improve defensively to win their district. |
| #3 | Haxtun Made State Tournament (Went 2-1, Reached Elite 8) | Haxtun reached the State Tournament last year. Haxtun made it to the Elite 8 before falling to eventual runners up De Beque. Haxtun will have a big hole to fill losing their top scorer but have plenty of depth returning. Haxtun will be a big threat this year and will be coming off some success from Football to give them some momentum. |
| #4 | Belleview Christian Defending State Champions | Belleview Christian is your defending State Champions. Belleview Christian will have some holes to fill with their leading scorer graduating and their #2 scorer transferring. Belleview Christian will still have plenty remaining to make a deep run and will still feature a very tall front court. This team could easily make another deep run. |
| #5 | Evangelical Christian Made State Tournament (Went 1-1, lost in Sweet 16) | Evangelical Christian returns nearly their entire team who reached the State Tournament a season ago. ECA will have plenty of fire power to make a deep run. ECA have two players over 10 ppg and this offense could be very potent this season. |
| #6 | Merino Made State Tournament (Went 2-1, Reached Final 4) | Merino reached the final 4 last season but have some holes to fill. Merino will lose 3 of their top 5 scorers but have key leaders coming back to push for a state tournament berth. Merino must have some players step up but look for Derrick Alber to have a big season for Merino. |
| #7 | Cheyenne Wells Made State Tournament (Went 1-1, lost in Sweet 16) | Cheyenne Wells reached the State Tournament last year and return nearly their entire roster. Cheyenne Wells returns their top 4 scorers, and this team should improve from last season. Cheyenne Wells could push for their District crown but I think could still reach the State Tournament. |
| #8 | Sierra Grande Did Not Reach State Tournament | Sierra Grande went 8-4 last season but did not reach the State Tournament. Sierra Grande will have a POY candidate in Isiah Chairez back along with 4 of their top 5 scorers. Sierra Grande could push for a State Tournament berth but improving from last season is key. |
| #9 | Genoa-Hugo Made State Tournament (Went 0-1, lost in first round) | Genoa-Hugo reached the state tournament last year but fell in the first round. Genoa-Hugo will look to build off last season success but will have to replace 3 of their top 5 scorers. Wyatt Miller and Colby Simmons return as their leading scorers, but depth is key for Genoa-Hugo to make a deep run. |
| #10 | Denver Waldorf Made State Tournament (Went 0-1, lost in first round) | Denver Waldorf went 7-6 and reached the state tournament last year. Denver Waldorf lost in the first round but return plenty of talent to try and make a deeper run this season. Denver Waldorf return their top 5 scorers and could be a team to push Belleview Christian for the league crown. |
| #11 | Caprock Academy Made State Tournament (Went 1-1, lost in Sweet 16) | Caprock Academy made the State Tournament a year ago and went 12-4 overall. Caprock Academy had their best season in some year and will look to build off that. Caprock Academy will have some holes to fill losing 6 of their top 8 scorers. Caprock Academy will return #2 scorer Johnathon Abshear and #3 scorer Andrew Jordan. Depth is key for a successful season for Caprock Academy. |
| #12 | Dove Creek Did not Make State Tournament | Dove Creek went 7-6 last season and missed the State Tournament. Dove Creek this season will look to improve and make a run. Dove Creek returns 7 of their top 8 scorers including Kade Hankins who will be one of the better scorers in that district. Look for Dove Creek to push for the top spot in this District. |
| #13 | Idalia Did not Make the State Tournament | Idalia did not reach the state tournament last season and ended the season with a 6-8 record. Idalia has plenty returning to make a push for a regional berth. Idalia returns their entire roster from last season and could be a team to watch to make the State Tournament. |
| #14 | Kim/Branson Made State Tournament (Went 0-1, lost in first round) | Kim/Branson went 10-5 last season and reached the State Tournament. Kim/Branson will have a new head coach this season. Kim/Branson will have some holes to fill and could possibly be without their leading scorer. With all this new info I dropped them from #9 to #14. |
| Teams to Watch for: | Simla, Cotopaxi, Hanover, Flatirons Academy, De Beque, Cheraw, McClave, Prairie, Manzanola, Arickaree/Woodlin, Stratton, Front Range Baptist |
