Class 1A Football First Round Preview

We kick of the First Round of the Class 1A State Playoff Friday Night.  Some great first round matchups will happen and look for a great Weekend of Football.

#1 Limon vs #16 Flatiron Academy Saturday 1pm

Limon enters as the top Seeded team in the Class 1A State Playoff Bracket.  Limon enters at 9-0 on the season and wrapped up the regular season following a 28-0 win over Yuma.  Limon won the League Four Title.  Limon passing attack is led by JR. QB Jordan Rockwell who has thrown for 840 yards 11 TDs and 8 INTs, Rockwell has also rushed for 216 yards and 5 TDs.  One of Rockwell’s favorite targets is SR. Michael Hoffman who has 11 receptions for 134 yards and 4 TDs.  The rushing attack is led by a two headed monster in SR Gabe Schubarth who has 1079 yards rushing and 13 rushing TDs and JR. Lohgan Bottjer who has 506 yards rushing and 5 rushing TDs.  Defensively Limon has given up just 99 points on the season and coming off back-to-back games giving up less than 14 points.  Limon defensively is led by JR Treyton Marx (83 Tackles and 9 Sacks), JR Keon Bandy (67 Tackles), and SR Gabe Schubarth (57 Tackles).  The secondary of Limon is led by SR Dontarius Arnold who has 4 INTs and 25 Tackles.

Flatirons Academy enters as the #16 Seed in the Class 1A State Playoff Bracket.  Flatirons Academy is 7-2 on the season and wrapped up their regular season with a 34-8 win over Estes Park.  Flatirons Academy won the League Six Title.  Flatirons Academy passing attack is led by SR Nolan Sheppard who threw for 315 yards 2 TDs and 3 INTs.  Sheppard is also the second leading rusher with 740 yards rushing and 13 rushing TDs.  Sheppard’s favorite target is SR Michael Kingery who has 7 receptions for 114 yards and 2 TDs.  The rushing attack for Flatirons Academy is led by SR Devin Glowicki who has 760 yards rushing and 7 rushing TDs.  Flatirons Academy defensively has given up just 100 points on the season.  That does include a pair of forfeits but recently Flatirons Academy has given up less than 14 points in back-to-back games.  Flatirons Academy defensively is led by SR Devin Glowicki (51 Tackles), SR Josiah Durrill (44 Tackles), and SO Rex Beck (37 Tackles).  The secondary of Flatirons Academy is led by SR Elijah Ruble who has 4 INTs and 16 Tackles.

These two teams have not meet in the past 10 seasons in the playoffs.  These two also have 0 common opponents this season.  Limon reached the State Finals last season losing to Centauri.  Flatirons Academy last made the playoffs during the Spring Season of 2022 losing in Double OT to Manitou Springs.

#8 Monte Vista vs #9 Holyoke Saturday 1pm

Monte Vista enters as the #8 Seeded team in the Class 1A State Playoff Bracket.  Monte Vista is 8-1 on the season and are coming off a 28-24 loss to Centauri.  Monte Vista finished in second place in League Two.  Monte Vista passing attack is led by SR Andrew Chavez who has 818 yards passing 14 TDs and 5 INTs.  Chavez also adds 212 yards rushing and 2 rushing TDs.  One of Chavez favorite targets is SR WR Addan Heredia who has 10 receptions for 167 yards and 4 TDs.  The rushing attack is led by a pair of RBs in SR DeAngelo Archuleta who has 1053 yards rushing and 16 rushing TDs and SR Khegan Gunter who has 758 yards rushing, 400 yards receiving, and 21 Total TDs.  Defensively Monte Vista has given up 130 points on the season.  Monte Vista defense is led by JR Jack Noonan (78 tackles), Sr Jaxon Martinez (66 Tackles), and SR Alejandro Felix (60 Tackles and 7 Sacks).  The secondary for Monte Vista is led by SR Khegan Gunter who has 3 INTs and 37 Tackles.

Holyoke enters at the #9 Seeded team in the Class 1A State Playoff Bracket.  Holyoke is 4-5 on the season and are coming off a 28-7 win over Burlington.  Holyoke finished in 4th place in League Four.  Holyoke passing attack is led by JR Wyatt Sprague who has 1118 yards passing 14 TDs and 4 INTs.  Sprague has a pair of favorite targets in JR Cash Weber 438 yards receiving and 6 TDs and JR Bryson Dirks 292 yards receiving and 3 TDs.  The rushing attack is led by JR Tyson Mosenteen who has 262 yards rushing 1 rushing TD and 2 receiving TDs.  Defensively Holyoke has given up 305 points this season, but their last game only gave up 7.  Defensively Holyoke is led by JR Wyatt Sprague (42 Tackles), JR Tyson Mosenteen (39 Tackles), and SO Luke Roberts (34 Tackles).  The secondary for Holyoke is led by SO Reid Sprague who has 2 INTs and 29 Tackles.

These two teams have not meet in the past 10 seasons in the playoffs.  These two also have 0 common opponents this season.  Monte Vista reached the playoffs last season falling to Florence in the first round.  Holyoke reached the playoffs last season falling to Meeker in the First Round.

#4 Buena Vista vs #13 C.S Christian Friday 6pm

Buena Vista enters at the #4 Seeded team in the Class 1A State Playoff Bracket.  Buena Vista is 7-2 on the season and are coming off a 41-20 win over Cedaredge.  Buena Vista finished in 2nd place in League One.  Buena Vista passing attack is led by SR Haden Camp who has 795 yards passing 9 TDs and 4 INTs.  Camp also has 731 yards rushing and 9 rushing TDs.  Camp two favorite targets are JR Caleb Camp 440 yards receiving 7 TDs and SR Tam Flowers 212 yards receiving 3 TDs.  The rushing attack is led by SR Jacob Phelps who has 609 yards receiving and 9 TDs.  Defensively Buena Vista has given up 196 points on defense.  Buena Vista recently has given up less than 21 points in 3 straight games.  Defensively Buena Vista is led by SR Ethan Flavin (87 Tackles), JR Colton Montoya (44 Tackles), and JR Elijah Flowers (39 Tackles).  The secondary for Buena Vista is led by SR Jacob Phelps who has 6 INTs and 20 Tackles.

Colorado Springs Christian enters at the #13 Seeded team in the Class 1A State Playoff Bracket.  C.S Christian is 6-3 on the season and are coming off a 53-8 win over Peyton.  C.S Christian finished in 2nd place in League Three.  C.S Christian passing attack is led by SO Jace Velasquez who has 1517 yards passing 16 TDs and 8 INTs.  Velasquez two favorite targets are SR Taylor Mcleod 558 yards receiving 8 TDs and SR Casey Oraweic 523 yards receiving 7 TDs.  The rushing attack for C.S Christian is led by SR Ashton Lofton who has 1071 yards rushing and 15 rushing TDs.  Defensively C.S Christian has given up 221 points this season but are coming off back to back games of giving up 8 points or less.  Defensively C.S Christian is led by SR Nate Tonnessen (100 Tackles and 7 Sacks), SR Jonah Bullock (77 tackles), and SR Conner Thomas (67 Tackles).  The secondary for C.S Christian is led by SR Taylor Mcleod who has 2 INTs and 45 Tackles.

#5 Yuma vs #12 Rye Saturday 1pm

Yuma enters at the #5 seeded team in the Class 1A State Playoff Bracket.  Yuma is 6-3 and are coming off 3 straight losses with the most recent coming against Limon 28-0.  Yuma finished in 5th place in League Four.  Yuma does not throw the ball much, but their passing attack is led by SR Nash Richardson who has 204 yards passing 3 TDs and 4 INTs.  Richardson also has 335 yards rushing and 4 TDs.  Richardson favorite target is SR Kevin Hermosillo who has 165 yards receiving 2 TDs.  The rushing attack for Yuma is led by a pair of RBs in SR Ethan Goeglein who has 503 yards rushing and 4 TDs and SR Jack Blecha who has 428 yards rushing and 4 TDs.  Defensively Yuma has given up 145 points this season.  Defensively Yuma is led by SR Kevin Hermosillo (59 tackles and 3 Sacks), SR Kallen Blach (74 tackles), and SR Victor Perez (49 Tackles).  The secondary for Yuma is led by SR Daman Hernandez who has 5 INTs and 38 Tackles.

Rye enters at the #12 seeded team in the Class 1A State Playoffs.  Rye is 8-1 on the season and are coming off forfeit win over Rocky Ford.  Rye won the League Three Title.  Rye passing attack is led by JR Nolan Schauer who has 1137 yards passing, 12 TDs and 4 INTs.  One of Schauer targets is SR TE Taye McCauley who has 308 yards receiving 3 TDs.  The rushing attack is led by a pair of RBs in JR Dylan Hurne who has 961 yards rushing and 13 TDs and SR Caleb Hurne who has 348 yards rushing and 3 TDs.  Defensively Rye has given up 120 points including 1 FF but recently have given up less than 7 points in their past two games.  Defensively Rye is led by Derick Bak (74 Tackles), Jose Martinez (50 Tackles), and Codah Graber (47 Tackles).

These two teams have 1 common opponent in Banning Lewis.  Both teams defeated Banning Lewis.  Yuma made the playoffs last season losing to Centauri in the Quarterfinals.  Rye last made the playoffs in 2019 losing in the first round. #2 Strasburg vs #15 Burlington Friday 7pm

Strasburg enters at the #2 seeded team in the Class 1A State Playoffs.  Strasburg is 8-1 on the season and are coming off a 54-0 win over Platte Canyon.  Strasburg won the League Five Title.  Strasburg passing attack is led by JR Landen Martin who has 742 yards passing, 11 TDs, 0 INTs.  One of Martin’s favorite targets is JR Austin Velasco who has 346 yards receiving 5 TDs.  The rushing attack for Strasburg is led by a pair of RBs in SR Zach Marrero who has 1187 yards rushing and 20 TDs and JR Thomas Devlin who has 471 yards rushing and 11 TDs.  Defensively Strasburg has given up 122 points this season and are coming off 3 straight games of 14 points or less.  Defensively Strasburg is led by SR Zach Rushman (44 tackles), SR Egen Stephens (43 Tackles), and SR Zach Marrero (36 tackles).  The secondary for Strasburg is led by JR Austin Velasco who has 4 INTS and 31 tackles.

Burlington enters as the #15 seeded team in the Class 1A State Playoffs.  Burlington is 2-7 on the season and enter the playoffs losing 5 straight games including a 28-7 loss to Holyoke.  Burlington finished in 6th in League Four.  Burlington passing attack is led by JR Angel Vela who has 634 yards passing, 3 TDs, and 7 INTs.  Two of Vela favorite targets are SR Logan Boyd who has 451 yards receiving 5 TDs and SR Garrett Richardson who has 222 yards receiving, 466 yards rushing, and 8 TDs.  The rushing attack is led by SR Dominic Conrardy who has 330 yards rushing and 3 TDs.  Defensively Burlington has given up 244 points this season.  Burlington defensively is led by Matthew Guiterrez (93 Tackles), Dominic Conrardy (66 Tackles), and Garrett Richardson (56 tackles).  The secondary for Burlington is led by Logan Boyd who has 2 INTs and 46 tackles.

These two teams have 3 common opponents this season in Limon, Wiggins, and Holyoke.  Strasburg went 2-1 losing to Limon and Burlington went 0-3.  Strasburg made the playoffs last season losing in the first round.  Burlington last made the playoffs in 2018 losing to Strasburg.  (Maxpreps was not working so I couldn’t get history, I will update when I can)

#7 Centauri vs #10 Gunnison Saturday 1pm

Centauri enters as the #7 seeded team in the Class 1A State Playoffs.  Centauri is 7-2 on the season and come off a 28-24 win over Monte Vista.  Centauri won the League Two title.  Centauri passing attack is led by SR Leighton Curtis who has 867 yards passing, 12 TDs, and 5 INTs.  Curtis also has 596 yards rushing and 10 TDs.  One of Curtis favorite targets is JR Chaz Holman who has 401 yards receiving and 7 TDs.  The rushing attack of Centauri is led by a pair of RBs in SR Austin Stockebrand who has 665 yards rushing and 10 TDs and SR Dylan Vasquez who has 351 yards rushing and 3 TDs.  Defensively Centauri has given up just 99 points on the season and at one point had 3 straight shutouts.  Centauri defensively is led by JR Josh Polkowske (110 tackles), JR Troy Huffaker (89 tackles), and SR Blade Absmeier (48 tackles and 5.5 sacks).  The secondary for Centauri is led by JR Chaz Holman who has 6 INTs and 34 tackles.

Gunnison enters at the #10 seeded team in the Class 1A State Playoffs.  Gunnison is 6-3 on the season and entering off a bye.  Gunnison last game was a 21-13 loss to North Fork.  Gunnison won the League One title.  Gunnison passing attack is led by SR Rocky Marchitelli and one of his favorite targets is SR Michael Riser.  The rushing attack for Gunnison is led by SR Peyton Frias and SR Royce Uhrig.  Defensively Gunnison has given up 101 points this season.  Gunnison has limited stats for defensive players. 

These two teams have 2 common opponents this season in Monte Vista and Buena Vista.  Centauri went 1-1 defeating Monte Vista but losing to Buena Vista.  Gunnison went 1-1 losing to Monte Vista and defeating Buena Vista.  Centauri is your defending State Champions.  Gunnison made the playoffs last season losing to Buena Vista in the first round.  (Maxpreps was not working so I couldn’t get history, I will update when I can)

#6 Wray vs #11 Meeker Saturday 1pm

Wray enters at the #6 seeded team in the Class 1A State Playoffs.  Wray is 6-3 on the season and enters coming off a 28-14 loss to Wiggins.  Wray finished in 3rd place in League Four.  Wray passing attack is led by SO Casey Midcap who has 639 yards passing, 4 TDs, and 6 INTs.  One of Midcap main targets is SR Chris Arambula who has 260 yards receiving and 1 TD.  The rushing attack for Wray is led by a pair of RBs in SO Samuel Meisner who has 582 yards rushing and 12 TDs and SR Brady Collins who has 559 yards rushing and 6 TDs.  Defensively Wray has given up 118 points this season.  Defensively Wray is led by SO Samuel Miesner (89 tackles), SR Brady Collins (63 Tackles), and SR Tell Wade (59 tackles and 6 Sacks).  The secondary for Wray is led by SR Chris Arambula who has 2 INTs and 49 tackles.

Wiggins enters as the #3 seeded team in the Class 1A State Playoffs.  Wiggins is 6-3 on the season and are coming off a 28-14 win over Wray.  Wiggins finished in second place in League Four.  Wiggins passing attack is led by SR Cole Kerr who has 952 yards passing, 13 TDs, and 8 INTs.  Kerr also has 594 yards rushing and 6 TDs.  Two of Kerr favorite targets are SR Omar Perez who has 538 yards receiving 6 TDs and SR Trey Fehseki who has 310 yards receiving 4 TDs.  The rushing attack for Wiggins was led by SR Julio Flores who had 1294 yards rushing and 17 TDs.  Defensively Wiggins has given up 142 points this season.  Wiggins defensively is led by SR Pepper Rusher (62 tackles), SR Laith Ibrahim (53 tackles), and SR Cole Kerr (53 tackles).  The secondary for Wiggins is led by SR Omar Perez who has 2 INTs and 20 Tackles.
