Class 1A

RankTeamNotes
#1Flatirons Academy

Defending State Champions
Flatirons Academy is your defending State Champions.  Flatirons Academy goes back-to-back and will look for the trifecta this season.  Flatirons Academy returns their entire roster from last season and will be the heavy favorite to repeat.  Kenlee Durrill (19.8 ppg), Emma Cox (16.8 ppg), and Emily Dehaan (13.5 ppg) all return to be leaders and look for the rare three-peat.
#2Briggsdale

Runner Up
Briggsdale is your runner up from last season.  Briggsdale will have a bit of reloading to do but return key leadership pieces to make a run.  Jenna Krise (15.6 ppg) will be the main leader this season.  Peyton Nicklas (5.8 ppg) and Kayl Klem (5.6 ppg) must also step up this year and become leaders.  Depth will be my main concern for Briggsdale.
#3Fleming

Made State Tournament (Went 2-1, 3rd Place)
Fleming made the State Tournament last season and finished in 3rd place.  Fleming will also lose some key pieces from last year but also return key pieces for another deep run.  Kally Kirkwood (9.7 ppg) and Madi Serrato (8.2 ppg) both return to be leaders for Fleming this season.  Fleming will look for other depth pieces to step up this season and push for a state title.
#4Cheyenne Wells

Made State Tournament (Went 1-2, 6th place)
Cheyenne Wells had a surprise season a year ago going 18-7 and finishing in 6th place at the State Tournament.  Cheyenne Wells will now look to build off last season and make another run.  Paige Ryser (11.8 ppg) returns as the #1 scorer from last season.  Look for Izzy Trevino-Lopez (3.2 ppg) and Shaylee Scheler (3.1 ppg) to also take big steps this season.  Cheyenne Wells needs depth to step up this year!
#5Dove Creek

Made State Tournament (Went 0-2)
Dove Creek made the State Tournament last season and went 20-3 overall.  Dove Creek will look to build off last seasons run and push for that state title.  Dove Creek will return their top 5 scorers from a season ago but will look for depth to step up this year.  Lexi Gray (12.7 ppg), Kylie Gatlin (10.0 ppg), and Rylee Hickman (8.6 ppg) all return and look for Dove Creek to be on a mission this season.
#6Stratton

Lost at Regionals to Briggsdale
Stratton did not make it to the State Tournament last year falling to Briggsdale in the Regionals Finals.  Stratton had a solid season last year going 15-8 and now they have their eyes set on a state tournament berth.  Stratton will return their top 2 scorers from last season in Sedonia Isenbart (18.8 ppg) and Claudia Sanza (9.5 ppg).  Stratton will look for other depth pieces to step up this season if they plan on reaching the state tournament.
#7Springfield

Lost at Regionals to Sangre De Cristo
Springfield did not make it to the State Tournament falling to Sangre De Cristo in the Regional Finals.  Springfield will have the talent back to make a run this season for the state tournament.  Springfield returns 7 of their top 8 scorers from last season.  Springfield will turn to Lainee Leathers (9.4 ppg), Brakelle Westphal (8.9 ppg), and Kendall Myers (7.9 ppg) to become leaders this season.  Springfield could be another team to make a deep run if they come together this season.
#8Kit Carson

Lost at Regionals to Springfield
Kit Carson did not make the State Tournament last year falling to Springfield at Regionals.  Kit Carson will have some pieces to replace but return key players to make a run.  Kit Carson will turn to Tess Johnson (10.4 ppg) to become a leader but also look for Kenzie Waggoner (4.9 ppg) and Lindsey Mayhan (4.0 ppg) to also step up this year.  Depth will also need to step up this season but look for Kit Carson to push again for a state tournament berth.
#9Sangre De Cristo

Made State Tournament (Went 0-2)
Sangre De Cristo made the state tournament a year ago after a successful 19-4 season.  Sangre De Cristo will have to do some reloading this season.  Peyton Metz (9.7 ppg) must become the leader this year and look for Palma Enriquez (5.3 ppg) and Idahlia Garcia (4.9 ppg) to also step up this year.  Depth will be key for Sangre De Cristo to make it to the State Tournament.
#10Kiowa

Lost at Regionals to Idalia
Kiowa did not make it to the State Tournament falling to Idalia at Regionals.  Kiowa has been consistent as a top team in Class 1A, but they will have to reload this season.  Top two scorers Kendra Byrd (12.8 ppg) and Jordan Perreault (10.2 ppg) both return but key depth does graduate.  Some younger players must step up for Kiowa if they plan to reach the state tournament this season.
#11McClave

Made State Tournament (Went 1-2, 4th place)
McClave made it to the State Tournament last year and finished 4th as a team last season.  McClave does graduate two key pieces from last season, but they will turn to McKayla Kiniston (7.3 ppg), Kennedy Vallejos (6.2 ppg), and Chloe Weber (6.0 ppg) to step up this season.  My main concern with McClave is depth and who else steps up this season.
#12Sierra Grande

Lost at Regionals to Cheyenne Wells
Sierra Grande had a surprise season a year ago reaching Regionals and falling in the Regional Finals to Cheyenne Wells.  Sierra Grande will now look to take a big step this season and make it to the State Tournament.  Sierra Grande will return key players in Mariana Loya (12.2 ppg) and Mia Esquer-Montoya (5.7 ppg) but who else steps up this season is key and controlling turnovers.
#13Kim/Branson

Lost at Regionals to Sierra Grande
Kim/Branson did not make it to the State Tournament last year falling to Sierra Grande at regionals.  Kim/Branson will lose their top scorer from a season ago but return the rest of the roster.  Emmalee Buhrle (10.1 ppg) and Ava Warner (8.6 ppg) both return to be leaders but the rest of the depth must step up this season if Kim/Branson wants a deeper run.
#14North Park

Lost at Regionals to Flatirons Academy
North Park did not make it to the State Tournament falling to Flatirons Academy at Regionals.  North Park will have some key pieces back this season as they try for a run at State again.  Dezirae Gonzales (13.0 ppg) returns to be the leader and look for Talynn Schmidt (3.2 ppg) to step up this season as well.  The main question for North Park is who else steps up this season.
#15Otis

Did not qualify for Regionals
Otis did not qualify for Regionals last season and struggled at times going 5-15.  Otis did gain valuable experience for their younger team last season and will return their top 4 scorers from last season.  Look for Alli Hornung (8.1 ppg), Hailey Stivers (6.8 ppg), and Rowan Tribelhorn (6.8 ppg) to all step up this season.  Otis must improve at taking care of the ball to find success.
