Wrestling Update 1/12 by Carlos Valencia
Hello wrestling fans. Another week down in the books. One more week closer to regionals. The kids finally got back to the mats after 2 or 3 week vacation. I noticed some kids were at different weights some kids moved down a weight class, as well as kids even moving up a weight class. It’s gonna be interesting to see where kids will be at for regionals. This weekend there is one tournament that really got my attention, which I will talk more about here in a bit.
This past weekend results were as followed.
In the Gunnison Cowboy tournament Cederage won the tournament with 13 placers and 2 Champions. Mead was next highest with 3rd place. They had 13 placers and 1 champion. Next was Gunnison in 6th place. They had 11 placers with 1 champion. Some other teams who did well were Salida and Grand Valley who finished in the top 10.
In the Rocky Mountain invite held by Pagosa Springs it was Centuari finishing in 3rd behind 2 excellent Mew Mexico schools in Aztec and Bloomfield. Centauri had 11 placers and 2 Champions. Next was Pagosa Springs in 4th place with 12 placers. Next was Monte Vista in 5th place with 8 placers and 1 champion. Next was Rocky Ford in 7th place with 6 placers and 2 Champions. Lastly was Center in 8th place with 8 placers.
This weekend the tournament to watch is in Florence. This is considered a mini 3A state tournament with a couple of 2A schools and 4A schools in attendance. This tournament will be a 2 day tournament. This tournament is gonna be a good one, with a lot of ranked kids in each weight. Should be a good one.
Other tournaments to watch will be the Wiggins Tournament as well as the Norwood Maverick tournament.
