Class 1A Boys Basketball Regional Predictions
Regionals is here and it’s win or go home time. Reaching Regionals is one of many steps for teams looking to reach the State Championship. To reach the state tournament is simple. Win your Region and you will go to the State Tournament. 8 regions and 8 teams advance to the State Tournament.
Region 1 at Belleview Christian
#1 Belleview Christian over #32 Ouray
#16 Wiley over #17 Pikes Peak Christian
I think the #16 vs #17 game will be a good one. Two teams with size and both teams wanting to take their shot at the #1 team.
#1 Belleview Christian over #16 Wiley
Belleview Christian will be looking to bounce back from their District Tournament loss, and they could be challenged by Wiley. I don’t see an upset in this region.
Region 2 at Sierra Grande
#8 Sierra Grande over #25 Peetz
#9 Cheyenne Wells over #24 Centennial
Sierra Grande did not get a good draw and face one of the hottest teams in Class 1A right off the bat. Peetz won their district tournament beating Briggsdale and Fleming and will be looking for their third straight upset. Sierra Grande will have to play their style, but I do think they get by Peetz, but I have Sierra Grande on upset alert.
#9 Cheyenne Wells over #8 Sierra Grande
This was not an easy pick. Sierra Grande style of play is fast paced and if they play their style, they could advance to the state tournament. If Sierra Grande cannot play their style, I like Cheyenne Wells in this matchup. This will be a fantastic game if it happens in the regional finals.

#5 Otis over #28 Nucla
#12 Cheraw over #21 Arickaree
I don’t see any upsets in the first round of regionals, but I think both higher seeds will make these games close.

Another great matchup in the Regional Finals if it happens. Two teams looking to make a statement and advance to the state tournament.
Region 4 at Stratton
#4 Stratton over #29 Prairie
#13 Fleming over #20 Springfield
Fleming vs Springfield is the matchup that catches my eye. Springfield won their district tournament and will look to pick up the upset. Fleming, I think gets by Springfield but could be a good matchup.
#4 Stratton over #13 Fleming
A rematch of the State Championship for Football. This would also be a rematch of their meeting for 1/13 with Stratton winning 48 to 41. This will be a great game!
Region 5 at Denver Jewish Day
The first round has already been played with Denver Jewish Day defeating Hi-Plains 84 to 49 and Eads defeating La Veta 56 to 37.
#2 Denver Jewish Day over #15 Eads
I think this could be a very competitive game. I think Eads has the athletes to give DJD problems and Eads did play one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. If Eads pulled the upset, I wouldn’t be surprised I just think DJD has the size to give Eads problems.
Region 6 at Genoa-Hugo
Genoa-Hugo got the forfeit win over Denver Academy of Torah.
#10 Flatirons Academy over De Beque
I have Flatirons Academy on upset alert especially if De Beque shoots the 3 ball like they did in the district tournament.
#7 Genoa-Hugo over #10 Flatirons Academy
Genoa-Hugo will be well rested for this game. I think Genoa-Hugo can win this game but need to play a complete game. Flatirons Academy will be looking for that upset.
Region 7 at Granada
#6 Granada over #27 Sangre De Cristo
#11 Briggsdale over #22 Idalia
Briggsdale vs Idalia will be a good matchup and I think is a close matchup. Sangre De Cristo has done a good job of rebuilding their program and this is very good experience for them.
#6 Granada over #11 Briggsdale
I think Granada is playing their best basketball of the season. Briggsdale has shown it can beat the top teams but need a complete game against Granada.
Region 8 at Limon
#3 McClave over #30 Denver Waldorf
#14 Dove Creek over #19 Front Range Baptist
I don’t see any upset in this region. Dove Creek, I think comes out hot and looks to show the district tournament loss was a fluke. Front Range Baptist has shown this year they can hang with the top teams, so I do expect the #14 vs #19 match to be good.
#3 McClave over #14 Dove Creek
Both teams lost in the District Tournament, and both will be looking to make a statement. This should be a good game, but I think McClave experience is key and I look for them to make it back to the state tournament.
