Class 2A Girls Basketball Regional Predictions

Regionals is here and it’s win or go home time.  Reaching Regionals is one of many steps for teams looking to reach the State Championship.  To reach the state tournament is simple.  Win your Region and you will go to the State Tournament. 8 regions and 8 teams advance to the State Tournament.  They will reseed the State Tournament based off the final Seeding Index published after Districts.  Remember this is just our opinion and we are not cheering against any team.  We know all the hard work that each team has put in to reach this point.  Good Luck to all 32 teams!

Region 1 at Merino

#1 Merino over #32 Trinidad

#17 Sargent over #16 Fowler

I think the #16 vs #17 game will be a good one.  Two teams looking to take their shot at the #1 team in the state.  Both are fairly young teams as well so this is huge experience for both teams.  I don’t see Merino being upset in the first round.

#1 Merino over #17 Sargent

Merino is my pick to win this regional.  Merino has a ton of post season experience and regardless of who they play will be the favorite.  Merino will be tested by either Sargent or Fowler.

Region 2 at Rangely

#2 Rangely over #31 Twin Peaks Charter

#15 Heritage Christian over #18 Evangelical Christian

Rangely will be heavily favored in the opening round.  Heritage Christian vs ECA should be a good matchup.  Heritage Christan appears to be playing their best basketball and why I am leaning that way.

#2 Rangely over #15 Heritage Christian

I think Rangely will be tested in this round, but I think the experience gained at State last years helps them get back to Loveland.  I do think this turns out to be a great matchup.   

Region 3 at Burlington

#3 Burlington over #30 Cotopaxi

#14 Limon over #19 Plateau Valley

Burlington will be heavily favored in the opening round but cannot overlook Cotopaxi.  Limon vs Plateau Valley is an intriguing matchup.  Both teams lost in the semifinals of districts, and both are hoping to take their shot at the #3 team.

#3 Burlington over #14 Limon

If Burlington vs Limon happens this is a huge rivalry game to make it to State.  It will come down to the smallest details and whoever comes out of the region whether it be Burlington, Limon or Plateau Valley they will be battle tested for State.

Region 4 at Sanford

#4 Sanford over #29 Crowley County

#13 Wiggins over #20 Las Animas

Both higher seed teams will be favored in their matchups.  Sanford girls are playing their best basketball after a tough district tournament.  Wiggins vs Las Animas should be a great matchup with Las Animas needing to have their key players step up to pull the upset. 

#4 Sanford over #13 Wiggins

I think we are instore for a defensive matchup.  Wiggins has the edge with state tournament experience.  This will be a very close game and I expect this game to come down to the wire.  Could be one of the better regional final matchups. 

Region 5 at Hoehne

#5 Hoehne over #28 Byers

#12 Monte Vista over #21 Wray

Hoehne is the heavy favorite in the opening round.  Monte Vista vs Wray should be a great matchup.  These two teams meet a season ago in the regional round and I expect this to be a great matchup.  Whoever advances between Monte Vista and Wray will challenge Hoehne for the regional title.

#5 Hoehne over #12 Monte Vista

I think Hoehne will be tested by whoever wins between Monte Vista and Wray and we could see a possible upset.  Hoehne rolled thru districts and if the game is tight how does Hoehne respond.  Hoehne will be well rested and could also make a dig difference. 

Region 6 at Denver Christian

#6 Denver Christian over #27 Loveland Classical

#11 Akron over #22 Gilpin County

I don’t see any upsets in the opening round of this regional.  I think both top teams are playing solid basketball.  I could see both lower seeded teams pushing the top teams, but I don’t see any upset here.

I expect this to be a battle if this matchup happens.  Akron will be tasked with stop the top two players of Denver Christian and I could see this turning into a defensive battle.  I could see either team walk away from this region and I expect a close matchup. 

Region 7 at Dayspring Christian

#7 Dayspring Christian over #26 West Grand

#10 Simla over #23 Caliche

I think this region is loaded with top teams and could be a fun region.  West Grand and Caliche are both teams who have proven they can beat or hang with the top teams.  I do think everyone will have to play a full game and could come down to the wire. 

#10 Simla over #7 Dayspring Christian

I think we will be spoiled as basketball fans with all the great Regional Final matchups, and this is another one.  Simla will look to get over the hump at regionals falling in the regional finals last year.  Dayspring Christian is also hoping to reach the state tournament.

Region 8 at Mancos

#8 Mancos over #25 Del Norte

#9 Sedgwick County over #24 Center

Mancos vs Del Norte is the matchup I am most interested in.  Del Norte style of play defensively has caused fits.  Del Norte upset Sanford and pushed Monte Vista to the end and could spring the upset against Mancos.  Mancos I am giving the edge but expect a good one.  Sedgwick County will also be tested Center in the opening round.  Center has height to challenge Sedgwick County and I think could push them to the end, but I think experience proves to be the difference.

#9 Sedgwick County over #8 Mancos

Sedgwick County has the experience of the State Tournament and I think makes the difference in the regional finals.  I do think it will be a good game in the regional finals.

#1 Merino vs #8 Akron

#4 Burlington vs #5 Sanford

#2 Sedgwick County vs #7 Simla
