MileHigh Prep Report Preseason Class 1A Boys Basketball Rankings
Class 1A looks to be wide open this year with some very talented seniors graduating. This should make for an exciting year in Class 1A. Remember we do have changes for the postseason with only 24 teams getting into the postseason instead of 32 teams.
Class 1A
Rank | Team | Notes |
#1 | De Beque Made the State Tournament, Lost in Great 8 | De Beque brings back Wes Ryan and Jaden Jordan as leaders and key experience. De Beque should have enough talent behind these two to push for a state title. |
#2 | Mile High Academy Made the State Tournament, Won in Great 8 | Mile High Academy returns their top two scorers from a year ago and 3 of their top 5. Plenty of depth is returning for a team that reached the semifinals a year ago. |
#3 | Primero Qualified for Regionals, lost by 1 to De Beque | Primero finished second in the District 6 tournament a year ago and nearly pulled the upset at Regionals falling to De Beque by 1. Primero returns nearly their entire roster including their top 4 scorers. Primero does move into a tough district this year but should have them battle tested. |
#4 | Merino Made the State Tournament, lost in Great 8 | Merino once again should be a tough team to deal with especially with the size and speed returning. Merino will have to replace their top 2 scorers from a year ago but have plenty of depth and talent to replace the seniors leaving. |
#5 | Genoa-Hugo Qualified for Regionals, lost to Cheraw | Genoa-Hugo returns nearly their entire roster with their top 5 scorers all coming back. Genoa-Hugo will look to take the next step this season. Genoa-Hugo returns the most from last year besides Primero. |
#6 | Haxtun Qualified for Regionals, lost to Longmont Christian | Haxtun had a tough start to the year last year, but a young team continued to grow, and they won their district in convincing fashion. Haxtun returns 4 of their top 5 scorers from a year ago and this team could be dangerous this year but move into a tougher District. |
#7 | Simla Move from Class 2A to 1A, did not qualify for Regionals | Simla returns a lot of talent and move down from Class 2A into Class 1A. The top 4 scorers from last year all return and this team could be a force right away in Class 1A. |
#8 | Edison Did not qualify for Regionals lost to Genoa-Hugo in Districts | Edison at times last year looked like a top 10 team including their upset win over ECA. Edison will now look for consistency this season and have the roster to do so. Edison returns their entire roster from last season and the experience from last year should help this team take a big step this year. |
#9 | Kit Carson Made the State Tournament, Won in the Great 8 | Kit Carson will be losing a good senior class taking 4 of their top 5 scorers including some key depth. Kit Carson will return their #1 scorer and will hope some underclassmen can step up. Kit Carson is always tough defensively and should help them this season. |
#10 | Sangre De Cristo Qualified for Regionals, lost to Ouray | Sangre De Cristo was upset at Regionals last year and will have some key pieces leaving. Sangre De Cristo will be returning some key talent with 3 of their top 5 scorers returning and a young group that played big minutes as Freshman. |
Other Teams to Watch | Sierra Grande, Briggsdale, Belleview Christian, Ouray, Eads, Manzanola, Pikes Peak Christian, Springfield, Fleming, Longmont Christian, Cotopaxi, Cheyenne Wells, Granada |
