MileHigh Prep Report Preseason Class 1A Girls Basketball Rankings

Class 1A has some very talented teams returning and I think should be a great year of basketball inside Class 1A.  Putting together the top 10 teams for Class 1A girls was a tough task.  Lots of good teams coming back in Class 1A!  Remember we do have changes for the postseason with only 24 teams getting into the postseason instead of 32 teams.

Class 1A

RankTeamNotes
#1Briggsdale

Made the State Tournament, Lost in Great 8
Briggsdale was upset in the Great 8 last season and this year will hope to advance farther.  Briggsdale had a lot of younger players playing a year ago and with their top 2 scorers returning this team should be poised for a big year.
#2Simla

Made the State Tournament in Class 2A, lost in Great 8
Simla makes the move from Class 2A down to Class 1A and should be a powerhouse instantly.  Simla will have to replace their #2 scorer but return the rest of the roster.  Simla should have a big year right away in Class 1A.
#3Fleming

Made the State Tournament, lost in Great 8
Fleming was upset in the Great 8 and will look to have a bounce back year and advance farther.  Fleming returns their entire roster from a season ago but depth scoring is key for Fleming to make a bigger run this season.
#4Kit Carson

Qualified for Regionals, lost to Springfield
Kit Carson missed the state tournament for the first time in a while but look for a reloaded roster to try and make a big run this season.  Kit Carson lose their top scorer from a year ago but return the rest of the roster.  Kit Carson will look to try and return to their dominating ways.
#5Sangre De Cristo

Made the State Tournament, lost in Great 8
Sangre De Cristo had a big season a year ago reaching the great 8 but falling just short.  Sangre De Cristo return their top 2 scorers from a year ago but who steps up behind those 2 is key for this team.
#6McClave

Made the State Tournament, lost in Great 8
McClave reached the State tournament a year ago.   McClave returns nearly their entire roster with 4 of their top 5 scorers returning.  Offensively McClave will be much improved and could be a force.
#7Lone Star

Qualified for Regionals, lost to Fleming
Lone Star had a good season a year ago but missed out on the State Tournament falling to Fleming in the Regional Finals.  Lone Star will look to reach the State Tournament and have the talent to do so.  The entire roster returns, and we should see more improvement this season.
#8South Baca

Made the State Tournament, won in Great 8
South Baca had a good season a year ago and reached the semifinals.  South Baca will be losing some key pieces from that team including 3 of their top 5 scorers.  South Baca will be returning their #1 scorer and some key pieces to still make them a big threat to reach the State Tournament.
#9Genoa-Hugo
Qualified for Regionals, lost to Springfield
Genoa-Hugo had a solid season a year ago but came up just short in the Regionals finals to Springfield.  Genoa-Hugo will be looking to reach the state tournament.  Genoa-Hugo will have to replace their #1 scorer from a year ago but return the rest of the roster for one last big push at a State Tournament berth.
#10Cotopaxi

Made the State Tournament, won in Great 8
Cotopaxi reached the Semifinals a year ago using back-to-back upsets of Dove Creek and Briggsdale to reach the Semifinals.  Cotopaxi will have the talent back to push for a similar feat this year with their top 2 scorers returning.  Key for Cotopaxi is replacing key guards they are losing to graduation.
